Just that really anyone have theirs on throughout? Do you use it? Or am I being mental

I expect its something most people use once and then the novelty wears off.

PinkRoses1245 · 18/11/2023 08:09

Do you have nearby neighbours? Consider them if you do.

Bobbybobbins · 18/11/2023 08:10

We have one that we use May- September. We barely have to hear it then as it is well insulated and maintains its temperature. Personally I wouldn't have one over the winter unless away on holiday and they had one- the cost of heating it would be huge and otherwise refilling it with hot water all the time...

jemenfous37 · 18/11/2023 08:11

Yabu!
Infection control...
Not a hot tub fan!

VanCleefArpels · 18/11/2023 08:28

You could keep warmer by burning £10 notes…..

Seriously, think of your fuel bill

Catza · 18/11/2023 09:23

You’ll be spending more on gas than heating. It takes a long time to come to temperature and, after a couple of uses, ours has now been boxed for over two years.

itispersonal · 18/11/2023 09:42

We have one used a lot when first had it. But now we get it out for birthdays, summer and plan on setting it back up for over Christmas. I'm looking forward to it!

Yes it costs but if I book to go away in a lodge etc and want a hot tub included, the costs goes up by £100s. So that's my justification of it being cost effective!

fingerguns · 18/11/2023 09:43

I never understand why people want a hot tub in the summer. Winter hot tub is much better!

DRS1970 · 18/11/2023 09:45

The novelty soon wears off; the chemical costs add up; your neighbours will probably not share your enthusiasm for it...

PuttingDownRoots · 18/11/2023 09:46

We love ours. However we've come to the conclusion its not worth it in depths of winter, its too hard to maintain the temperature in use.

We will probably put it away early next month until February.

Nannyfannybanny · 18/11/2023 09:48

DD got one for her blokes birthday used once! I know a lot of other people who stopped because of the astronomical cost of heating. Me, wouldn't have or use one of you paid me,why would you want to sit outside in the UK in winter in water!

TheChosenTwo · 18/11/2023 09:50

I love ours! I’m the only one who really uses it during the winter, it’s absolutely heavenly getting in when it’s freezing cold outside, I go out and relax for half an hour a few times a week. During the hot weather we drop the temperature and it’s a cold tub which dh and ds also use.
It’s not hard to maintain the correct chemical balance but you do need to be pretty vigilant with it (I actually don’t know anything about it, dh does it all!).
When Im wfh I sometimes get in during my lunch break too with my book.
It’s incredibly well insulated, I wouldn’t be without it.

I agree. I always assumed hot tubs were for winter.

justkeepchanging · 18/11/2023 10:07

I love mine and get in several times a week, it's nice in summer but amazing in the winter especially if it's snowing, it needs to be a 'proper one' not inflatable or it would cost too much to heat. It adds a couple of pounds a day to our electric bill but is worth it imo

Sprinkles211 · 18/11/2023 10:54

Ha if your rich go for it we had ours on in september once before all the price rises it added £211 onto the electric that month (we keep it at temperature) it was soon shut down for the winter

DonnaBanana · 18/11/2023 11:49

We did this one year and it adds about £15 a day to the electric so not doing it again

Janeandme · 18/11/2023 11:51

It’s utterly miserable here today, wet, windy and leaves blowing all over the place. I can’t think of anything worse than getting my kit off and going out there to sit in a hot tub.

Ours doesn't add £15 a month...

Flibbertygibbetty · 18/11/2023 12:04

Just got back from UK break where we drank wine and star gazed in the hot tub every night - utter bliss!

TheSunAlwaysShinesOnATerf · 18/11/2023 12:10

We've had our Arctic Spa hot tub for 9 years it costs £3 a day to run, it's on 24/7 and worth every penny. We use it twice a day in all weather's. If you test the water regularly and keep the correct chemical balance you will be fine. Our garden is huge and the tub isn't near our neighbours, they only found out we had one during lockdown. I'm assuming the people that moan about them have never owned one or have had the cheap plastic type that people don't look after properly.

My thoughts exactly.

TheKeatingFive · 18/11/2023 12:25

I think it sounds lovely for winter, but I take the point about being more costly to heat.

KimberleyClark · 18/11/2023 12:31

We booked a cottage with a hot tub for a New Year break a few years back and enjoyed using the hot tub on New Year's Day.

Littlewhitecat · 18/11/2023 12:33

Rent one and see if you like it and how much your electric goes up. I only like a hot tub when it's really cold so every now and again we rent a hardshell one for a week. I definitely wouldn't want one all year round.

WakingNightmare · 18/11/2023 12:36

Our neighbours used theirs a lot for about a year then a bit for a further 6 months and would get noisy which was irritating. I haven’t heard them or known them to use it at all over last couple of years.
