We've had our Arctic Spa hot tub for 9 years it costs £3 a day to run, it's on 24/7 and worth every penny. We use it twice a day in all weather's. If you test the water regularly and keep the correct chemical balance you will be fine. Our garden is huge and the tub isn't near our neighbours, they only found out we had one during lockdown. I'm assuming the people that moan about them have never owned one or have had the cheap plastic type that people don't look after properly.

Twice a day, every day? Why , can I ask? Do you also shower or bathe on top?

We use ours all year round but it's best in the winter.
It's a hard shell one rather than an inflatable and it's probably one of the best things we've ever bought.

@Janeandme i had a really bad accident that left me with mobility problems, I use the hot tub and it helps more than any other treatment I was having. I use it in the early morning before sunrise and stay in it about an hour. It's therapeutic listening to nature before the neighbours wake and the traffic starts, then after 10.30 pm, it helps me sleep. We have a quick shower before to wash off any products ( deodorant, perfume etc) and a quick rinse afterwards. We are on a meter so conserve as much as we can.

Our neighbours have one. It’s -10/-20 here most the winter and it’s easy to gets and doesn’t cost much they say in electric. BUT they have a proper one, not a blow up type. It was crane lifted in several years ago, and it’s sunken into the earth with thermal xyz. Has wooded and tiled gazebo over, and built surround by plants. So wasn’t cheap to install. We are also rural so although they are our neighbours they aren’t super close as everyone has large gardens

We love it. We want to add one ourselves but waiting to have proper budget for it as those blow up ones would just freeze and cost a fortune to run in winter.

We had one when we lived in the U.K. loved it all through the winter.

I love ours. We did have a cheaper lazyspa for a couple of years before investing in a ‘proper’ one because we wanted to make sure we’d use it. DH and I both have back problems and it’s so good for that. We do have a gazebo over it so we can use it when it rains. Don’t find it too expensive - adds about £30 a month to electric I think.

Yabu!
Infection control...
Not a hot tub fan!

It's not just a tub of bacterial soup! Correct use of filters and chlorine keeps them lovely and clean. The handles on the doors in your house probably house far more bugs.
OP, we have an Instagram one that we get out for shorter periods. We much prefer to use it in the winter, especially over the Christmas holidays. Obviously it does cost us, but we liken it to the expense of doing something as a family together. We find it a great time to sit screen free and enjoy some good chats with our children.

My neighbours were out in theirs yesterday, shouting at one another over noise of the hot tub, he is a typical "loads of money" character, l lost track of how many times he was informing the whole area where he is going away next and how much his holidays were going to be. I was rolling my eyes as l was hanging out the washing. It's excruciating having that shit inflicted on you.
I don't know if anyone remembers the episode of Murder In Mind involving the loud chavy family constantly partying in hot tub all hours and the neighbour who was an electrician was at his wits end and rigged so they got electrocuted. Always springs into my mind having to hear the two of them boasting all the time.

DonnaBanana · 21/11/2023 14:25

Well I don't know how you can keep it running so cheaply. To keep it at 37C constantly ours would have the heater running 12 hours a day in winter bare minimum which at 40p a kilowatt hour on a 2 kilowatt heater is 80p an hour or a tenner before adding the pump that runs constantly.

Ilovefluffysheep · 21/11/2023 14:41

We turned ours on over the summer, after having it switched off for a couple of years due to electricity prices (we now have solar panels, a home battery and were on the Agile tariff getting very cheap slots over summer).

Ours is a plumbed in one, not one of the inflatable ones. It added 10kWh to our electricity usage, and this was in summer. In winter I suspect it would be more, as it would have to work harder to keep at temperature.

We're hopefully getting a second home battery, at which point we might consider turning it on during some of the colder months, as it is lovely to sit out in a super warm tub on a crisp winter night.
