TMI Warning: I think there's poo coming out of my vagina.

Goodfood1 · 18/11/2023 07:16

Not sure what to do and sorry for the tmi.
Hoping for some MN wise advice. I've just been to the toilet and when I wiped front there was some soft stool there. Because it was not just a skid mark but say 10p size I didn't think I was wiping badly back to front.

I then showered to make sure I was properly clean and stuck a cotton bud up and it's coming out brownish... so could be just a discharge, I can't smell it as bad. Or could be poo.

Now I'm feeling an ache but not pain. And am not sure if it's my imagination and if I should just wait and see if happens again.

Anyone had any experience or advice?
Not sure I wanna run to A&E but am a but worried.

Aibu to worry ?

@Kittylala WHAT an arsehole.

BreadBag · 18/11/2023 08:18

Surely if you are regularly wiping back to front then it's just bad wiping after a poo and left a bit in the front.
Wipe properly everytime and see if problem goes away.

Piggletta · 18/11/2023 08:18

Contact your GP on Monday. No need for A&E over weekend (whether this is a recto vaginal fistula or old blood). Obviously if situation changes and you develop severe pain, high temp or heavy bleeding go in.

ladyofshertonabbas · 18/11/2023 08:18

Could it be a menopause symptom? Has it been a long time since you’ve had a period? It could be old blood.

Yes could be this too

Goodfood1 · 18/11/2023 08:19

I was having a bowel movement, which I assumed was a normal one. Wiped back first the just went for a quick wipe up front, which is when I saw the poo.

It was too much imo to be from a bad wipe. But I'm doubting myself now.

Anyway I won't do anything and just carry on with my day and keep an eye out.

I have a dull period like pain there now... but again could be me over thinking in that area.

Thanks for all the comments. It's so great the support people mostly give each other here.

You haven't left a tampon in have you, that can leave an awful smell and discharge

cathyandclaire · 18/11/2023 08:26

If you had an infection/ abscess drained in the past ( was that the surgery?) a fistula could have formed. It's an abnormal connection between two spaces, potentially in your case between the urethra and vagina.

I'd trust your instincts and make an appointment with your doctor.

Fistulas can also be linked to Crohn's disease- are your bowels all ok?

sixtiesbaby88 · 18/11/2023 08:31

I had something similar a few years back - it was a tampon that had wedged itself in. Brown discharge and horrible smell. I was referred to hospital the day after I saw the gp, which is when it was found and removed

SheIsStuck23 · 18/11/2023 08:37

I had this worry once too OP and I went to my GP and they took it very seriously in case it was a fistula between my large intestine and vagina.

I had a vaginal examination at the GP surgery but couldn’t see anything obvious so I was referred to see a gynaecologist on an emergency basis. My appointment was about 10 days later and I had another examination and an internal vaginal scan and thankfully nothing showed up.

Go and see your GP on Monday and get the wheels in motion to get checked out.

JFDIYOLO · 18/11/2023 08:43

Please pick up the phone and make a doctor appointment. This could be so many things, and needs investigating. It's all so scary, I know - you'll be in the best hands. 🤗

menopausalmare · 18/11/2023 08:46

My first thought was a fistula, too.

Lammveg · 18/11/2023 08:53

Thicklegs · 18/11/2023 08:11

Never even heard of fistula, just googled and still confused. Does the anus then open into the vagina? New paranoia unlocked ha.

Why would you comment confidently that it couldn't possibly by poo coming from the vagina?

A fistula can be caused by things like surgery or infection and its basically a tunnel from one organ to another. So there can be a tunnel from the anus/rectum to the vagina.

Sugaristheenemy · 18/11/2023 09:11

Probably poor wiping technique or some form of discharge.

A fistula would normally open in the skin near the anus not into the vagina. You’d probably have some form of infection (in your vagina I mean) if that happened. Also fistulas are normally caused by abscesses which again I think you’d notice.

Maybe have a chat with your GP if you’re worried.

billybear · 18/11/2023 09:18

could be last bit of old blood from your recent period, might just of come out with pressure of you going to the loo.see how you go next time you go loo

Catza · 18/11/2023 09:25

You don’t have to go to A&E, it doesn’t sound like an emergency. A GP appointment would be best

Melodysmum12 · 18/11/2023 09:29

If you were doing a poo and then wiped the front, sounds like it’s poo from your bum. Period pains sounds like just that!

crowsfeet57 · 18/11/2023 09:42

My friend had this and it was very serious. Maybe talk to 111 if you are sure it was coming from your vagina.

RoundTheBendThenBackAgain · 18/11/2023 09:53

Have yourself a good bath/shower and wash well down there. Then the rest of the weekend, after every bowel movement, wipe properly (front to back) and keep a close eye on every used bit of tissue. If you do see any more poo after a pee, make a GP appt for Monday morning.

jadey1991 · 18/11/2023 10:17

Hi op firstly you should.never wipe back to front... ALWAYS FRONT TO BACK. however I wouldn't say its sounds like poo. Sounds more like old discharge.

If you are concerned please contact your gp

Siha345 · 18/11/2023 10:21

I know you used a cotton bud but could you put a finger into your vagina to see if you can feel anything? Particularly along the back wall. You will also get a better idea if there is poo in there because you will smell it. I know it’s gross but it will either reassure you or let you know that you need to see the doctor asap. However if you have been wiping back to front it’s likely it was a “dingleberry”, particularly if you have hair

TheShellBeach · 18/11/2023 10:21

It may be a fistula, so you'd better go and see your GP.

lookingforMolly · 18/11/2023 10:27

Yes you absolutely can get fistulae from the bowel to the vagina, my mum had a small one.
They can occur from childbirth injury even years after childbirth.

All the people commenting that fistula from the bowel to the vagina don't exist - unless you're medical or have personal experience please don't comment.

Poo in the wrong place can sometimes cause infection too.. (I've seen it happen) look out for a high temperature & feeling unwell, obviously if this happens go to A&e/ call 111.

Otherwise make a gp appointment on Monday.
