To ask what this could be on my DD scalp and hair?

My DD is 4.5 and in reception. No sign of any lice. I wash her hair regularly with child’s farm shampoo and conditioner for curly hair and make sure it’s washed out properly. Is it dandruff? It’s very thick, flaky and yellow. This stuff just keeps coming back. Thank you!

Sebhorric dermatitis - cradle cap!

PatFussy · 17/11/2023 21:06

Do you rinse her hair with bath water or fresh water?

Dryshampoofordays · 17/11/2023 21:06

Cradle cap? My 2.5 year old still gets it

DiscoDragon · 17/11/2023 21:07

It's cradle cap. My two both had it for several years too, I washed with Dentinox Cradle Cap shampoo which helped a bit. I also had it up until the age of about 7, I remember my aunt rubbing baby oil into my scalp, plaiting my hair and leaving it there overnight. That also helped!

Merryoldgoat · 17/11/2023 21:09

Cradle cap! My 5yo still has it. It’s such a pain to get rid of.

Cheeesus · 17/11/2023 21:09

Nizoral will also sort it out and doesn’t sting the eyes as much if it gets in them

Thank you! I will try the shampoo and baby oil thing. I wash it with fresh water. She did have it a bit as a baby but seems more now. Didn’t realise they still have it at this age. Thanks

Agree with everyone else, definitely cradle cap! My daughter is 9 now but she had it when she was younger. Only went away in the past couple of years I think.

NancyJoan · 17/11/2023 21:11

With the Dentinox shampoo, rub it on and lather up, then leave for a good few minutes before rinsing.

CarpeVitam · 17/11/2023 21:12

Looks very like psoriasis plaques

Newusernameforthiss · 17/11/2023 21:13

Cradle cap, try olive oil

Octavia64 · 17/11/2023 21:17

Coal tar shampoo is good.

If it doesn't clear, go to the GP who will refer onto a dermatologist. He can prescribe creams that will clear it.

I had it as an adult.

MereDintofPandiculation · 17/11/2023 21:19

Nizoral is good, and soothing.

O0oO0o · 17/11/2023 21:20

It could be pityriasis amiantacea. It's linked to psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. If so it might be worth visiting the GP for appropriate treatment. I had this as a child, and my mum didn't treat it properly (she just did the olive oil method) and it left me with small bald patches.

Referral to dermatologist. It probably is seborrhoeic dermatitis/cradle cap but best to be sure and get some expert advice. DD suffered for years and the GP chatted sh1t.

itsmyp4rty · 17/11/2023 21:26

I'm nearly 50 and still get it.

lmjfu · 17/11/2023 21:33

Cradle cap.

Unexpectedly found that treating head lice with Hedrin massively improved it!

Mumaway · 17/11/2023 21:40

Cradlecap. Buy dentinox.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 17/11/2023 21:50

I think it's too flaked to be cradle cap. My daughter has chronic plaque psoriasis this looks very like it. If this is the case cradle cap stuff may not be useful and may cause more. Open to pm if you need any advice

dragonfly19 · 17/11/2023 21:51

Dentin of shampoo works well

ExplodingSmittens · 17/11/2023 21:52

My DS had this for a long time. The best thing he's ever tried is Neutrogena Sensitive Scalp.

anon2134 · 17/11/2023 21:53

You need coconut oil, leave it to soak in and take it off with a nit comb.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 17/11/2023 21:54

Or generally just check with the gp just In case if it turns out to be cradle cap fair enough but wrong treatment for psoriasis can trigger it to get really bad and cause hair loss

liormat · 17/11/2023 21:54

Some kind of scalp psoriasis

TooningOut · 17/11/2023 21:55

It might also be impetigo. My kids got it in their hair and the scabs are always yellow. I hope it's not impetigo because it's a nuisance!
