An absolute disgrace!

None of their sentences reflected the atrocity committed.

All three should have been left to rot in jail.

wokbun · 15/11/2023 16:33

He's already been recalled once. That should be it. He had a chance.

Flickersy · 15/11/2023 16:35

He's on a 17 year sentence.

Imprisoned 2013, released in 2021 on licence. Recalled in 2022 for breaching parole conditions, now released again.

He'll be serving his sentence until 2030. A sentence is not only custodial, it can also be served outside the prison estate when you're released on licence.

x2boys · 15/11/2023 16:38

Whilst I agree. They were convicted of manslaughter not murder
So.the prison terms will ,be less.unfortunately.

Whiteday · 15/11/2023 16:38

@Flickersy it still should have been longer, so that he served more in custody! Is that clear to you now?

If he couldn't keep to the conditions last year why do they think 1 year later he will?

I can't see any evidence that @Flickersy has misunderstood anything that has been said. She's just clarifying how the judicial process works, as I read it.

17 years is towards the upper end of a sentence which can be expected for manslaughter though.

As an accomplice, he was never likely to have a full life sentence.

Whiteday · 15/11/2023 16:48

@Flickersy I still think it should've been longer, not up to the upper end! It's my opinion!

He should've got life IMO! They all should have!

My point isn't halos it works, I am aware of that, my point is he should've got longer. Manslaughter can carry a life sentence.

They can only be sentenced within sentencing guidelines for the offences they've been convicted of

TryingToMakeSenseOfIt · 15/11/2023 16:50

I hope someone gets him

Then you need to write to the CPS and petition them to amend the sentencing guidelines.

Whiteday · 15/11/2023 16:54

@Flickersy so I can't have a conversation about my thoughts? Unless I do as you dictate? Give over, it's a topic of conversation.

I don't need to do anything!

You're not having a conversation though. You just keep repeating that you think it's wrong.

Whiteday · 15/11/2023 16:56

@Flickersy you don't dictate to me, what I should do...... move on!

The UK legal system is terrible. Life should be LIFE.
Throw away the key.
Bastard. As someone upthread hopefully someone will "get" him.

Whiteday · 15/11/2023 17:00

@Flickersy read back your posts,

"You need to" sounds like you're dictating to me?

I agree I’m surprised the original sentance wasn’t longer. 6 lives!!! But I suppose if he is deemed not to be a danger or deemed that his risk can be managed in society there’s no point keeping him there.

Ive known people, mainly IPP sentances, who did a lot longer for much lesser crimes.

I wonder what rehabilitative work he has done. Aside from rehabilitation the length of time just doesn’t feel long enough for the loss of 6 lives.

Exactly! Just not long enough.

Your posts seem very rude

JellyMops · 15/11/2023 17:05

I actually think our sentences are too long and not enough (any) money is spent on rehabilitation. What does locking someone up for life achieve except a massive bill for tax payers? If they are not a danger get them out there earning money and paying tax. I see that as a better way of paying their debt to society, by repaying the actual money spent! It's not as if it works as a deterrent, the countries with the shortest prison sentences also have the least crime.

For some crimes maybe, for killing six children I don't agree.
