Settle a long standing household debate

Inspired by the thread about milder vs cooler

If you are stood facing another person and they have something on their left cheek, where would you point on your own face to indicate this?

A. "Exact" - You point to your own left cheek, as the mark is on that part of their body
B. "Mirror Image" - You point to your right cheek, as if you were their reflection in a mirror

Whilst we have come to a strained cease-fire, the above has been very hotly debated between DP and I, and regularly causes confusion (and highlights how often I have muck on my face)

If it was on the left cheek, I would touch my left cheek, I would also say which cheek I was talking about.

But if it was on my husband's or kids cheeks I'd probably wipe it off myself.

Celticliving · 15/11/2023 14:38

If it was my partner, I would point to their face, not mine (or wipe it off their face, depending on what it was).

Otherwise mirror image.

toastofthetown · 15/11/2023 14:38

I do mirror image, my husband would point to his left cheek to indicate my right cheek.

I do notice that in my ice skating lesson warm up, the coaches will call ‘right inside edge’ or ‘right hand’ while using their right hand or foot, and the entire group (including me) mirrors them using their left hand or foot.

MasterOfOne · 15/11/2023 14:39

A. I'd point to the exact spot on my face

A. I point to the exact spot

stemmedroses · 15/11/2023 14:40

I have to think about my left and my right every time I need to give a direction so I am amazed by the people that can say "you have something on your left cheek" while looking at the person straight on.

If I am told I have something on one side of my face, I need to swat at my entire face before giving up and going to a mirror.

I can't help settle your debate 😂

I use cardinal directions, i.e. "Your east cheek" or "your north cheek" (depends which way they are facing obviously). Then there is no ambiguity.

You point to the side that they see, exactly as kindergarten teachers teach their children left from right (in mirror image)

Oh this is a subject of much discussion in our household. I mirror (B), which is obviously the most logical thing to do! DH was taught by MIL to point to the exact (A). He's learning.

Poppyseed14 · 15/11/2023 15:01

I'd do mirror image then he will automatically go to clean the other side which is usually out of my line of sight and then I have to say to him "THE SIDE I CAN SEE" 🙄

Catza · 15/11/2023 15:11

Parents taught me that A is correct in these circumstances, however when I was doing my yoga teacher training, I was told to mirror but name "left" and "right". Having taught for over 10 years I tested both and I can tell you that 99.9% of people will mirror what you do (i.e. if you are moving right arm in front of them, they will move their left, even if you say "right"). So for practical reasons, option B.

SuitYouSir · 15/11/2023 15:13

I mirror and DH doesn’t and neither will accept the other’s way! We don’t get angry about it but it’s become a silly thing between us 😀

None at all, unless you don't know which way you are facing.

Dotjones · 15/11/2023 15:15

Same side. If you indicate your right cheek I'll assume you mean it's on my right.

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 15/11/2023 15:16

Mirror, followed swiftly by saying 'other side,' when they go to the opposite of where I'm meaning.

OurfriendsintheNE · 15/11/2023 15:20

Mirror image, but it’s also a long standing disagreement between me and my DH

Umm you have a 'North ' cheek ?

I mean technically I guess you do if you refer to your arse cheeks as your 'South ' cheeks. 😁

Umm if you are facing East or West then yes you have a North cheek and a South cheek! Not sure how you worked that out!

I’d point at where on their face if they were close. If not then B
