The costs of legal fees tend to add up particularly when you get Supreme Court level. The govt are facing legal challenges from many sides re: illegal asylum seekers - Rwanda, barges, hotels, disused military facilities, individual appeals....
Not only do all these challenges divert funds away from other issues, it also takes working time away from the finite number of civil servants who could be dealing with some of the backlogs.
I don't really have much of an opinion about the Rwanda debacle but I do have an opinion about the situation in Gaza and that an immediate ceasefire needs to be called. And that the govts around the world should unite in calling for one, then immediately seek a long term solution.
I was cheered yesterday by the Foreign Office statement to the Commons yesterday that stated the Govt position as seeking the Two State solution and the media narrative (finally) casting a light on the Israeli illegal settlements being forced (by violence) in the West Bank.
As far as Rwanda being an unsafe place for illegal migrants to the UK due to various Human Rights issues being raised by the UN and ECHR, I'm pretty sure these organizations have had issues with the UK in recent years. I'd also suggest that we stop all those UK/Rwandan School Exchange trips that having been going on for over a decade, can't be sending dc to somewhere so unsafe. For indeed, Rwanda has been in receipt of some very well spent UK Development Funds over the years - Boris didn't just blindly stick a pin on a map.
The Rwandan facilities don't look too bad to me - if the UK Govt paid for me and DS to go on holiday there we'd go. And I would leave a truthful and honest view on Trip Advisor.
