Would you be comfortable leaving near multiple XL bullies?

I live on the edge of a large estate and see three of them often. Two are owned by a young couple, they have shit recall and don't listen. They are often off lead running around by the newsagents (why would a young man spend much time hanging about near a newsagents, I wonder..)

The other one is also owned by a young man, early to mid 20's and clearly not big nor strong enough to control it. He's smaller than me.

It spooked us the other week as it stopped dead in it's tracks and stared when it clocked me crossing the road with my 5 year old. DS is autistic and scared of dogs. He was chased in the park last year and has never forgotten about it so can get quite stressed by approaching dogs, let alone ones that look like that.

Would you feel comfortable living close to these dogs or is my worry about my DC clouding my judgement?

Dogs that are too strong for an adult to control have no place in our society, and with breeds once selectively bred to fight that is even more dangerous. I'm getting sick of the "but what about jack Russell's and chihuahuas" argument, they don't kill adult humans. There is a rescue organisation trying to find homes for some xl bully puppies. "And because they are puppies they can go to homes with young children". It is crazy

Pepper spray is a prohibited firearm. It wouldn't stop an XL Bully during an attack. I think the only thing that would do that is a bullet to the head. These dogs are even killing/injuring their owners.

I would not welcome this breed in my neighbourhood.

There’s a family with 3 at the end of my street (with 5 kids including a baby in a 3 bedroom house 😵). One of them jumped out of its window and into my friend’s house and attacked her dogs inside their own home. Her partner literally jumped on it and wrestled it out of the house but he could have been seriously injured or killed doing that. The police weren’t interested and the dog warden has done nothing.

My dog won’t even walk past their house, he insists on crossing the road onto the other side as we can’t get off the street without going past the house.

The man has also been recently arrested for threat to kill and owning a firearm. It’s supposed to be a nice street in a nice area…

Hear me out, what if I were to carry around a bottle of mould and mildew remover? It stinks to high heaven and if you get that in your eyes you'll know about it.

Anybody who has dealt with mould will know the strength of the stuff 🤔

Look at the many you tube videos where these things are not put off by even pepper spray being sprayed up their nose and into their eyes.
Even a 9mm bullet hasn't worked.

It is a real worry - I have a small dog and fear for her as these Pitbull crosses are extremely dog aggressive.

When you see these out and about unleashed and un muzzled, report, report, report.

I'm as sure as I can be in the absence of an official assessment. I've done alot of reading and alot of watching since I noticed them in the area - but you are right, it's hard to be certain.

The first two belonging to the couple are definitely poorly trained, not sure about aggressive as I haven't seen anything to suggest it at this point, it's just what they're capable of that worries me.

The lone one being walked by the owner is intimidating. It stops in its tracks and glares at you as if it's protecting it's territory. I know plenty of dogs are curious and glance at people but this is different, it's unnerving.

A man I know who works with a demographic who are likely to own these types of dog knows and loves dogs - but he said just last week that XL Bullies put the wind up him - He said no other dog seems as menacing or “ hard to read” as an XL Bully, or as unpredictable.

He is good with dogs, too but avoids this type of dog wherever possible- he says they are often owned by emotionally volatile people as well which doesn’t make for a good starting point.

Re Pepper spray- yes, it’s classed as a firearm in U.K. - Like you , I’d feel far safer carrying a can of it- But various videos of these aggressive dogs being sprayed by pepper spray doesn’t seem to work once the thing is set on attacking , because of the insensitivity to pain they have ( Fighting breed)

A dog walker I know has a knife on her in case her dog is attacked. It’s small and hidden.

Good luck if she gets searched by the police then.
Having a knife for defence reasons wont wash with them. It is why kids are carrying them.

The average MN user isn't somebody likely to be stopped and searched by the police. I think its a risk I'd be prepared to take given that people are still, after the ban, going around with these things unmuzzled.

It wouldn't bother me but I'm aware I'm in the minority. It might be different if I had children.

It would be a worry and could become a major headache 😕 at times worrying about what if senerios that unfortunately have hit the news about those types of dogs sometimes in the media,

i wouldn't make me happy that's sure

I would give them a wide a berth as possible

I appreciate this is not allways as easy as that
