If people were given the choice to pay a small monthly subscription to royal family to do appearances, promote charities and live or rent out a few properties, would they do it?

Haha ! No way.

strawberriesarenot · 13/11/2023 21:59

Rent-a-Royal! No!

Why, have they asked you to sound us out?

80skid · 13/11/2023 22:01

That's a brilliant idea. And no, I wouldn't subscribe. Not a chance.

Gallowayan · 13/11/2023 22:03

Only on the condition that they abdicate.

FarEast · 13/11/2023 22:04

Pay one of the richest families in the world????

Are you on glue?

NalafromtheLionKing · 13/11/2023 22:04

Yes if it came with real incentives (not some crappy tea towel, I’m talking private afternoon tea with Charlie and family, shedloads of Duchy Originals hampers etc).

DuckonaBike · 13/11/2023 22:06

Well this has made me chuckle!

And no, obviously.

theduchessofspork · 13/11/2023 22:15

Do I get a weekend in Balmoral and Sandringham thrown in every year? If so then probably

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 13/11/2023 22:23

No, I'd bin the lot of them tomorrow, given the choice.

Nat6999 · 13/11/2023 22:53

Not a penny, they are the most dysfunctional parasites in the country. To think that the whole country owes them everything just because of the family they were born into. I would like a referendum on whether we keep the Royal family or not.

WhosAfraidOfVirginalWolves · 13/11/2023 22:59

Would I bugger.

EatYourVegetables · 13/11/2023 22:59

“To subscription” is not a verb. “Pay subscription” or “subscribe”.

I’d pay more taxes to improve the education system, ie I would SUBSCRIBE to a campaign to stop people verbing nouns.

Christ have they not got enough?

Agree. I meant instead of

TheKnittedCharacter · 13/11/2023 21:28

😂 no.

I would however donate to a fund to have them abolished.

Agree! Asked as I suspect even the lost ardent royalists would not voluntarily pay for them.

NiceViper · 14/11/2023 08:29

Why should we pay a subscription when all that is already covered?

I can't think of a single country that allows it's HoS to fundraise like that

Angrycat2768 · 14/11/2023 08:38

BarneyAteMyHomework · 13/11/2023 21:20

I might pay a subscription towards the upkeep of the royal palaces in exchange for free entry - like a royal version of the National Trust.

Wouldn’t pay for the people though.

I agree. There is already a Historic Royal Palaces subscription for Hampton Court etc but its a bit rubbish as thete isnt enough included to make it worth it. It could be added to that. They don't need 20 houses between them. They also ' own' extensive art collections, only very few of which we get to see. Stick it all up in Buckingham Palace and let people come in to see it all year round. If they bring in money via tourism, let the tourists pay for their upkeep through entrance fees. Who would pay to see them do charity events when more exciting celebs do itvtorcfree in their spare time? Without the psychodrama/ affairs/arguments/ jealousy they are a dull family of nit very bright rich people who think they are important.

PennyProud · 14/11/2023 08:51

If we had a choice, 'no'.

TheShellBeach · 14/11/2023 09:12

victarion · 13/11/2023 21:33

Are you the poster from the other day who said people would rather have an absolute monarch than a parliament?

I wondered that.

rainbowsparkle28 · 14/11/2023 09:13

Absolutely not we subsidise them enough as it is 🙄🤨

Angrycat2768 · 14/11/2023 12:51

TheShellBeach · 14/11/2023 09:12

I wondered that.

I suspect that's true when you see all the 'President Blair' stuff that comes up when discussing the point of a Monarchy, and how people go to places they wouldn't otherwise go and defend behaviour they wouldn't otherwise defend when it comes to the Royals. ( friends with paedophiles? Well she was a recruiter too- a 17 year old groomed girl etc racist and offensive comments while a guest of another country?Oh soon funnny/ he was putting them at ease)

Eleganz · 14/11/2023 13:09

I'd love for that to be the method of funding the royals as it would effectively end the monarchy due to financial unsustainability.

I believe that the presence of the monarchy in our country is an active barrier to much needed constitutional reform and allows for unscrupulous politicians to exercise powers on behalf of the crown with limited or no oversight - for example the power to suspend our democratically elected representative body for weeks on end requiring a legal challenge to overturn. The tories have shown us how weak our "constitution" is over the last 13 years.

nowtygaffer · 14/11/2023 13:26

No but like previous posters I would pay towards getting them booted out. Parasites indeed.

WaWaWaWaaaaaa · 14/11/2023 13:45

Exactly. The current system where senior politicians and members of government are rewarded with titles and honours makes the whole system too self serving. The UK honours system is a joke. It's outdated and ridiculous.

Look at the issue I mentioned earlier where John Major introduced a clause in 1993 exempting any estates passing from Sovereign to sovereign from paying any inheritance tax. This was the same John Major that said he wanted a classless society and in May 2004 described lobbying for honours as "tasteless" and "quite prevalent" and called for the awards system to be reformed but who STILL accepted his knighthood in 2005. This is just one example out of thousands.

It's bad enough having a royal family but having one that has such an influence on our elected representative's is awful. We are meant to live in a democratic society.

I don't understand while people who support the Royal family are ok with all of this.

The former Prime Minister, John Major, whose 1993 reforms were partly aimed at promoting his version of 'the classless society'_

C1N1C · 14/11/2023 13:45

So... paying some random person to live an amazing lifestyle, eat the best food, gold everywhere, meet everyone you've ever dreamed of meeting, 'holidays' in every country you can think of under the guise of political negotiations etc...

Yeah, lining up for that one!

Greenpolkadot · 14/11/2023 13:49

Of course not..
I think they manage perfectly well of what income they get.
