Microgynon has been awful for me. Yasmin even worse.

Any more suggestions?

I had to get the copper coil the hormonal stuff made me go up several dress sizes =/

fingerguns · 13/11/2023 14:39

Contrary to your experience, Microgynon 30 has never given me side effects!

I was on Cerazette (mini-pill) when I was breastfeeding and it made me as dry as a desert. Sex was very uncomfortable, even with lube.

Hankunamatata · 13/11/2023 14:44

Marvelon

ThisNameWillHaveToDo · 14/11/2023 15:27

Thanks all. It’s really useful to hear others’ experiences.

The only thing to do is to try different ones. Yasmin was wonderful for me and completely cleared my skin up and regulated my periods, and I never got a single side effect - everyone's different.

SirenSays · 14/11/2023 16:07

Cerazette was fine. Microgynon used to make me violently sick

Guttedme · 14/11/2023 20:59

I tried to get Yasmin but all online chemists wouldn’t prescribe and just directed me to another pill. Wondered if it was on par with now banned drug esma which use to treat Fibroids.

Cerazette has been good but had a break through bleed at just over 3 weeks out of nowhere and the other had occasion where I was vomiting on taking too much water. (Fortunately only the water came up when the tongue was waggling)

Muchonachomiamigo · 14/11/2023 21:03

Microgynon was ok, Yasmin was the best.
Cerazette turned me into a monster.

Finteq · 14/11/2023 21:06

I can't take any of the oestrogen ones
I tried a few. Even bought Loestron over the counter- apparently it has less oestrogen.- that's where the name comes from. But in the end had to give up and takes a progesterone only one.

They gave me really bad headaches and felt nauseous all the time- I also get really bad morning sickness and it felt like that all the time. Not sure if its linked.

Cerazette was great. And also my.periods stopped so perfect for me.

DuckWithOneWing · 14/11/2023 21:09

Femodene has been great for me.

Cerazette caused me to bleed constantly. Lucette gave me awful leg cramps, and Eloine was even worse.

Massivescreen · 14/11/2023 21:13

Cilest- I used to love it! Microgynon sent me crazy. One of the mini pills had me bleeding all the time.
I was on cilest for years then had to come off as too old so now I have a copper coil.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 14/11/2023 21:19

Marvelon. Microgynon was awful for me. Turned me into a weepy mess that gained 5lbs if I even dared smell a cake.

I’ve been on Marvelon for years with no problem at all.

FindingMeno · 14/11/2023 21:20

Microgynon was absolutely the only pill for me.

Jules912 · 14/11/2023 21:27

Micro gym on gave me migraines but Cerezette was great once I got past the initial 3 months bleeding ( was about to stop and ask for something else when it stopped and now it's stopped my periods).

CherryBlossomPants · 14/11/2023 21:29

Rigevidon has been the best for me. No major side affects apart from being a bit more hormonal before I’m due my period. I take mine for 3 weeks and then have a break.

Wakeywake · 14/11/2023 21:33

Cerazette was perfect for me, no side effects and my periods stopped completely.
Mycrogynon was OK, but I put weight on it.

Lovesacake · 14/11/2023 21:35

Cerezette for me, no periods after the first few weeks and no mood swings

Daisymae55 · 14/11/2023 21:36

Both of those pills were terrible for me.

The contraceptive injection was the best but was a logistical nightmare with my gp surgery at uni so I ditched it. Would have stayed on it otherwise

Ceraxette has been brilliant but I did bleed for about a month straight at first. No issues since

SidewaysOtter · 14/11/2023 21:37

Cilest for me, Microgynon made me cry all the time. Cilest has now been discontinued but is available as a generic (Lizanna).

gingertigercat · 14/11/2023 21:56

Loestreon was incredible but I was taken off it.

Marvelon amazing.

Tried cilest, microgynon, rigedevon (?) femodene and femodette all with no joy. I found it was a case of keep trying until finding the right one

DanceMumTaxi · 14/11/2023 22:06

Loestrin 20 was this best, but I don’t think it’s being manufactured anymore. Microgynon was awful. Had millinette for a while when couldn’t get Loestrin anymore. It started off ok, but I developed headaches every month so I recently moved on to desogestrel which is a mini- pill. So far so good.

LuckyCats · 14/11/2023 22:08

microgynon gave me awful pmt symptoms and killed my sex drive to the point I wondered why I was bothering with a contraceptive.
Injection made me bleed for 9 months straight while I was on it; and it bloody hurt.
Implant has been amazing for me, no periods for 6 years now, sex drive is fine, no other side effects that I’ve noticed, I have gained weight but that could be age/ lifestyle related and I’m still a healthy weight, best of all it stopped my hormonal migraines.
Im not wanting any more kids so I’ll stay on this until menopause now and hopefully never have another period ever.
Unless you’re planning to conceive in the foreseeable I would look into longer term options, it’s very freeing just never having to think about pill taking, periods or accidents.

DeepEnd · 14/11/2023 22:20

Microgynon in mid-late teens made me thoroughly depressed. I was happy on Mercilon for ages in my 20s but the mid 90s thrombosis scare put me off it. Then used rhythm method for decades. Was on the mini pill mid 40s to ease me through menopause - Norgeston - but was rubbish at remembering to take it at the right time of day. Periods did more or less stop though but couldn’t tell if that was because of the pill or they were just stopping (had gone back on the pill to deal with heavy blood loss).

Bridgertonned · 14/11/2023 22:27

Another vote for keep trying different ones - but if it helps, I found using the superdrug online service the best, just because it was the only place I could get a comprehensive list of all the different types of pill and importantly, the specific different hormones they had so I could start to rule out which ones didn't agree with me.

Microgynon for me I think was ok, though I started taking it when I was a teen and prob wouldn't have recognised if it was causing me issues (GP made me stop it at 30)

Cerazette gave me crazy mood swings, as did another mini pill I can't remember the name of. I worked out that anything with levonorgestrel (which includes mirena coil as well as several pills) would cause me to bleed constantly. I tried an older alternative of the mini pill, Noriday, which was minimal side effects, and some were a bonus (eg no periods) except that it also killed my libido so became rather pointless! Since then I've switched to millinette low oestrogen which has been great, only side effect I've noticed is that my appetite increases and so I will put on weight if I don't watch that - but it's manageable for me.

It really is a process of elimination in my experience, and knowing which hormones are in different pills is key (my GP didn't know I quickly came to realise)

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/11/2023 22:30

Yasmin.I refuse to come off it even though I'm 43 and the Dr keeps trying to get me on something else.
