To think it sounds amazing to have someone plan a tailor-made trip for you?

I saw this as an ad and it sounds wonderful - they tailor make a trip for you based on your preferences and it's a surprise!
Given that nobody will ever do this for me, and that my DCs generally need everything extremely well planned (i.e. DH and I have to think through every step) I would just love to sit back and be planned for.

hmmmm..... I don't know. I am a control freak and likely to do my holidays how I want them... but then I travel solo mostly so its all planned exactly how I want anyway. I can see this would appeal to a busy mum though 😊

(I actually did this for my mum's 60th - I booked a long weekend in a city we'd lived in when I was a small child, so I hadn't been as an adult - she tried to get the destination out of my brother but she did guess when I told her what clothes to bring).

Another control freak here, I would hate that. To me part of the fun of holidays is planning where to go and what to do. Hate surprises.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 09/11/2023 12:43

Travel Counsellors planned me a few trips with the kids. Various stops and flights across the Us.

skgnome · 09/11/2023 12:44

I’ve seen some videos of that (paid ones of course)
im not sure I’ll trust that
falls I’m the top good to be true for me

kavalkada · 09/11/2023 12:45

I plan tailored trips for all my friends. It relaxes me and it is kind of my hobby. I love traveling around the world, even if it is only on my computer.

GentlemansRelish · 09/11/2023 12:46

That sounds horrifying to me. There are lots of places I'm longing to go, so why would I delegate the fun of choosing to an algorithm?

Labradoodlie · 09/11/2023 12:48

No way. I’d be happy for someone to do the admin, but like duck am I delegating decision making

I'm with you there.... choosing and the anticipation is half the fun!

helpfulperson · 09/11/2023 12:52

I think it depends on the type of holiday. For my main holiday no. But I think it sounds fun for a weekend and in particular would be good for a friends meet up where the company is the main feature.

drspouse · 09/11/2023 12:52

I've actually put in a request just to see if I can guess where it is!

A lot of these companies are just someone with a day job elsewhere and then up in their bedroom at night googling where to stay for your ‘personalised itinerary’. They may also do deals with hotels in exchange for bringing bums on seats, or head on pillows in this case.

jay55 · 09/11/2023 12:58

Planning is my favourite part of a holiday, looking at menus and deals on attractions, planning out days.

Ktime · 09/11/2023 12:59

It can be bewildering though. When people talk to me about island hopping in Thailand my eyes glaze over at the planning required.

drspouse · 09/11/2023 13:17

I never really went on planned holidays before meeting DH but he had found skiing much better when it was a package, and we have done a couple of other holidays that way as well - but accommodation plus flight. I'm assuming this type of holiday isn't "coach plus compulsory jolly sightseeing tours".

And mine.
I would absolutely hate this concept.

gannett · 09/11/2023 13:33

Yeah no. I don't like surprises and I don't even trust DP to know my tastes better than I do, let alone a stranger or an algorithm.

I also don't feel the need to constantly be having the best possible time on holiday. I want to enjoy myself of course but I also travel to learn more about the world and how people in different places live. I like researching what to do because I learn so much while reading up. And some of my most memorable and interesting experiences haven't necessarily been the smoothest or straightforwardly fun.

Appleblum · 09/11/2023 13:38

Ooo I don't like the surprise part but would otherwise love having someone to plan holiday itineraries for me!

If they could present me with a draft that I could make changes to that would be perfect.

drspouse · 09/11/2023 15:40

I like researching what to do because I learn so much while reading up.
These days, I often find myself buying books about the place either while I'm there or on my Kindle - e.g. I got a couple of good books set in our holiday destination this year on e-book loan from the library or in bookshops there. The ones in bookshops there were in the "local authors" section (though obviously that's going to be hard in a non-English-speaking country) and you wouldn't be able to get them here.
I think in the past I did rely on Lonely Planet a lot but even then I looked at the fiction/history books recommended section and ended up reading them after I got back!

I don't object to it in principle but the minimum cost for this is £1095 per person per 6 nights. I have never spent this much on a holiday. Unless they propose a packed schedule with all activities at no extra cost, it doesn't seem like a particularly good value for money

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/11/2023 16:13

I love planning holidays and hate surprises, it’s my idea of hell

drspouse · 10/11/2023 09:16

So I got my trip planner and worked out where it is (by the departure time - the destination isn't a big continental airport that could be any one of a number of cities) - in fact it's somewhere I've always wanted to go.
It's £800 for a spring weekend, warmer than the UK and now I want to book it
The main reason I won't is that I have upcoming surgery with no date so I might be recovering or even in hospital.

Yep, this. Someone else planning it takes away half of the fun and not knowing where I'm going would mean I'd have no chance to pre-vet restaurants which is vital when one is taking a toddler on a city break.
