To think it sounds amazing to have someone plan a tailor-made trip for you?

I saw this as an ad and it sounds wonderful - they tailor make a trip for you based on your preferences and it's a surprise!
Given that nobody will ever do this for me, and that my DCs generally need everything extremely well planned (i.e. DH and I have to think through every step) I would just love to sit back and be planned for.

No I like to plan out trips in great detail, I'd hate this.

@TheBirdintheCave this company only takes 10s and up so that wouldn't be an issue but they don't book all the restaurants for you!

@drspouse I get that, I just meant that arriving in a country having no time to plan ahead would be hard for me to deal with. I don't book restaurants either, it's just about knowing the area near the hotel/apartment and being able to have already worked out which restaurants are worth a visit and which I should ignore. Saves a lot of time wandering around! :)

Luckily for me, DP absolutely loves planning a holiday. Apart from agreeing on a destination and general vibe, I do literally none of the planning at all. I love it.

@kavalkada 😅

No I would hate this. I can afford one big holiday and a weekend or two in the UK every year and I know every year where I want to go for the big one. I love the anticipation and reading up on the country etc.

I did however use an amazing travel agent to help plan a safari and trip to Zanzibar earlier this year and it was amazing. I've always planned big holidays but my DH is far less experienced a traveller so we did it to put his mind at ease. But it was so good knowing there'll be a taxi waiting at the hotel to take you to x destination at x time haha

God, no, planning is my favourite bit of a holiday. We did a 3 week trip to South Africa a few years ago and I had a solid 8 months' entertainment out of it before we even went to the airport.

I have two epic fantasy trips in the works at the moment, one to Spain and one to Japan. We may never do either of them but if we're in a position to at any stage, they'll be ready to go with minimal tweaking.

I've used a company to plan trips for me, to Croatia and Greece. Flights, transfers, car hire, hotels, routes, ferries, the lot.
When I worked out the costings on the last trip it was between £200 and£250 more than if I'd booked it all myself.
It was worth it to avoid the stress of tying everything together, and then I'd have been worried I'd missed something.
Well worth the extra cost.

So I got my trip planner and worked out where it is (by the departure time - the destination isn't a big continental airport that could be any one of a number of cities) - in fact it's somewhere I've always wanted to go.
It's £800 for a spring weekend, warmer than the UK and now I want to book it
The main reason I won't is that I have upcoming surgery with no date so I might be recovering or even in hospital.

So you just pissed about and wasted their time then?

declutteringmymind · 10/11/2023 12:07

I use a company which has a basic tour which you can adjust to suit you which works really well for us. There are some things on there which we wouldn't ordinarily choose which gives us an element of the unknown but we can also opt into others and as extra days/stops.

I love any kind of travel so would love this as it appeals to my sense of adventure but I can see why most people wouldn't as it could be a lot of money wasted if you do t enjoy it.

Insuranceheadache · 10/11/2023 12:17

A lot of these "last minute surprise" businesses (whether it's beauty products, clothes or holidays) actually work by selling you whatever is cheap due to last minute over-supply. So here I imagine you get sent wherever airlines have overestimated bookings and so have excess capacity going cheap (perhaps within certain limits so they can justify saying it's tailored to you). Nothing wrong with that but it's worth being aware that's what it is- they haven't sent you to Prague (or whatever) because they looked deep into your soul and saw that you were destined to love Prague, but because you ticked "city break" not "beach" and flights to Prague were going cheap.

Anyway, very much not for me.

I find picking a destination the hardest so if I could give someone my criteria and they then selected somewhere to go that would be great because then I can get into the detail of restaurants, walks, swims, adventures and wine bars.
