What do you do when you are fed up?

I'm so fed up. I know what the issue is. I am in an unhappy marriage and my mental health is very very poor. Not just because of marriage but in general as well.
I also have pms right now.
I have children so can't crawl I to bed and sleep like I desperately want to.
What do other people do to try and get you through hard times.
I can't see any joy in doing anything and have zero motivation getting dressed today is a struggle.
I don't need advice like leaving unhappy marriage etc. That's a whole other thread. But little things to get you through.
Oh I also have no spare cash so spending on myself is not an option.

exercise is a big one
even if it means plonking kids in buggy and jogging with it

going out, always
things are always better outside.

loud music and dance

watch funny movies/ videos

very little things to gives you that tiny boost

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 02/11/2023 11:55

When I'm fed up, I give myself a talking to, force myself to put on my big-girl pants and go for a walk - whilst I'm walking I dismiss any negativity that wants to stay in my brain and force myself to count my many blessings: I have food, I have a home, I'm not living in a war zone, my eyes can see the wonders of nature on my walk, my ears can hear the birds and other people's chatter ... so much to be grateful for and forcing myself to concentrate on those things usually lifts my mood. It doesn't solve my problems but it gives me more resilience to deal with them.

I hope things improve for you.

midlifemelancholy · 02/11/2023 12:45

I doom scroll. Or watch shite in tv
I realise this doesn't help you

girlfriend44 · 02/11/2023 13:04

Knowing it will pass and counting my blessings with what I have got, not what I haven't got.
Exercise and Music too.

Ihaterhymingrabbit · 02/11/2023 13:09

I want to eat shit and drink wine but I know there are better ways.

You could get out in the cold fresh air, find some country side if you can, even on if it’s raining, get your heart rate going - feel the elements.

Have a long hot bath, then moisturise from head to toe.

Cook a wholesome hearty meal.

CorneliaStreet · 02/11/2023 13:31

Going for a walk, particularly by the sea or some other body of water if the sea isn’t possible.

Agree with PP about a long bath, preferably with some nice bubble bath and a book. Swimming is also great.

Anything involving water basically.

PerkingFaintly · 02/11/2023 13:51

Go to The Litter Tray on MN and look at kitty pics.🐱😺

Not even joking.

PerkingFaintly · 02/11/2023 15:16

Sorry you're having such a tough time, OP.

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 02/11/2023 15:28

I get outside and find a mindless, menial job to build up a sweat and give me that fuzzy, tired feeling when I’m done. I have horses so that usually involves a muck heap or even just digging ditches / shunting mud around. I’d imagine gardening would have the same effect, maybe housework too if you’re into that sort of thing…

Second to that, a walk and a church generally help me feel better about life. Religion is optional, I just really like churches!

I hope you find something to make yourself feel better or a way to make a change for the better if that’s what you need.

gannett · 02/11/2023 15:32

Exercise. Yes sometimes you have to force yourself to do it and it's not pleasant while you're doing it but I never regret having done it.

Music. Your favourite tunes, as loud as possible. Sing along.

gooddayruby · 02/11/2023 21:55

A shower is the first and most important thing, then an earl grey (for me) and a sweet yummy sugary breakfast. Then exercise.

Also, lots of huge deep breaths through the nose throughout the day. About 10 at a time.

Took me years to find what worked for me, but I was making it too complicated. Look after your body and it will look after your mind.

BigFatLiar · 02/11/2023 22:03

Read a book, have a long soak in the bath, go out in the fresh air for a while, visit the grand children (they're still little so lots of fun, more so than when when our girls were, you can pass them back to mum when they get grumpy).

Have a cuddle and a chat with OH.

MidnightOnceMore · 02/11/2023 22:06

Exercise, gardening, craft, reading or good TV all help. Exercise or gardening the most.

StarShipControl · 02/11/2023 22:10

Plan your future. Talk to someone.
Let them help you get out of your marriage, if things can't be sorted.

JaceLancs · 02/11/2023 22:10

I find being busy stops my negative or intrusive thoughts but need multiple things to distract me so listening to podcast or YouTube or catch up tv whilst doing something else like gardening
watching tv at the same time as knitting, crochet or doing a jigsaw
I’m a hot bath person but usually have earbuds in listening to something whilst playing simple games on phone or iPad

LaLoba · 02/11/2023 22:15

I go for a run, or bike, or a walk with my dog. If I’m really miserable (have MS, severe fatigue and pain sometimes), I read a good book to escape.
On truly terrible days I google ‘bad taxidermy’ to make myself laugh, it really works.
Hope you find something OP, you sound like you need it.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/11/2023 22:17

Walk on the seafront for miles or paint late at night in my little studio when everyone is in bed.

verrymerryberry · 02/11/2023 22:17

Hot shower
Hair wash
Moisturise head to toe
Clean comfy clothes (full new set)
Blow dry hair

Something nice to eat

Try and get some daylight even if in the car for a drive

Exercise if you enjoy it l, if you don't enjoy it don't do it.

ShutTheDoorBabe · 02/11/2023 22:18

Put the radio on and sing along and talk to the DJs as though they're in the room with me.

Write in my diary/journal.

Annoy someone.

Eat.

Do something silly with the kids.

KateofGhent · 02/11/2023 22:46

Another one for exercise as it lifts your mood as well as burning calories. and the cinema on Saturday afternoons.

Itsmychristmasdress · 02/11/2023 22:52

Thanks everyone I managed to get dressed and forced myself to do a task that I had been avoiding. I took it hour by hour. Tried to do one productive thing at a time and played with.my son.
