Hoovering after a c-section

When did people hoover after a c-section? Is it compulsory to wait the 6 weeks? Recently had a section and my ocd is through the roof Grin but also don't want to do any damage or anything to myself

A week I think, my mum was around for the first few days and wanted stuff to do so she did it when she was here and I did it after she left.

I didn't even realise that not hovering was a thing I needed to worry about.

It's your body, you know how you feel and if you get pain or discomfort then don't do it.

Ponderingwindow · 01/11/2023 17:29

Wait the six weeks.

Starmoonsu · 01/11/2023 17:31

Do you have a partner who can do it?

eatdrinkandbemerry · 01/11/2023 17:55

A week and I was back doing everything I wanted.

foldingtowels · 01/11/2023 19:51

Thanks all. I do have a partner but he works full time and I have pets so would be easier for me to just run round with the hoover throughout the day.

within a few days, I was a lone parent. Didn’t realise you was meant to wait 6 weeks (not that I would have!)

Mumaway · 01/11/2023 19:54

I waited about 6 hours. Back in the car the next day. Was in much worse state after 72hr labour and vaginal birth than a semi-elective csection.

MeinKraft · 01/11/2023 19:56

No I didn't wait 6 weeks but I do wish id waited longer. We have a Henry through so Grin

Nothingbuttheglory · 01/11/2023 19:57

I was told 8 weeks, which I was fine with.

MicrowaveRice · 01/11/2023 19:57

I told my husband it was 6 months ...

Bluejellybean23 · 01/11/2023 20:02

It really depends how your recovery is going. With my first CS I couldn't really do a lot for a few weeks and wouldn't be able to hoover/ carry a washing basket full of clothes without bleeding. With my second CS I was in a lot less pain and could be more active (although still bled after lifting my toddler after 5 weeks). Just listen to your body and if you get any twinges or bleeding stop immediately! I know what you mean though. I was itching to tidy up etc but just had to slow down and try to let it go.

Thesearmsofmine · 01/11/2023 20:02

A week, DH was back at work and I had 2 toddlers as well as a newborn, hoovering needed doing!

You have had open abdominal surgery. Unless you want to risk long term problems, follow the instructions and wait.

Just because other people got away with it without harming themselves or needing additional surgery, doesn't mean you will be that lucky.

It's a silly and unnecessary risk for the sake of vacuuming.

Gloopyhoop · 01/11/2023 20:04

I had an emergency section 8 days ago and hoovered after 4. I only did it because I wanted to test my limit and I knew I'd have to go back to doing the majority housework very soon after.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/11/2023 20:14

The thing is, it’s not just the scar you can see. There’s a lot of internal work been done. Suggest you google and read about what’s involved. You might have a different perspective on whether or not to ignore medical advice.

KidneyWarrior · 01/11/2023 20:19

It's a hernia risk 😬

Very wise.

Genius 😆

LovelyDaaling · 01/11/2023 20:32

Wait the six weeks. Don't take chances with your health because everyone will be in the cart if you suffer a setback. You must value yourself above some pet hair and crumbs.

Khvdrt · 01/11/2023 20:33

I waited the 6 weeks; I didn’t want to cause internal damage and with my first c section I pushed myself too hard and ended up in pain so second time I was more careful.
I did struggle with this as things like that get to me but the physio was very clear about waiting to do things like that

maw29 · 01/11/2023 20:34

I did a week later and got a row from my midwife.

I told my husband it was 6 months ...

My next will be a planned section and I am taking notes. This is great

TomAllenWife · 01/11/2023 21:26

Oh I do love a MN competition thread

I actually sewed up my own scar and then drove myself home whilst breastfeeding
The following day I completed the London marathon.
By day 3 I was building our summerhouse

OP take the 6 weeks, it's major surgery, it's not like anyone cares if you've hoovered

foldingtowels · 01/11/2023 19:51

Thanks all. I do have a partner but he works full time and I have pets so would be easier for me to just run round with the hoover throughout the day.

He works full time so he can't run a hoover round? Confused

Winnading · 01/11/2023 21:36

It can cause issues to do too much too soon. Just wait the 6 weeks. Think prolapse and hernia, incontinence and other things. It's not worth the risk.
