Hoovering after a c-section

When did people hoover after a c-section? Is it compulsory to wait the 6 weeks? Recently had a section and my ocd is through the roof Grin but also don't want to do any damage or anything to myself

OP posts:

Oh I do love a MN competition thread

I actually sewed up my own scar and then drove myself home whilst breastfeeding
The following day I completed the London marathon.
By day 3 I was building our summerhouse

OP take the 6 weeks, it's major surgery, it's not like anyone cares if you've hoovered

Please don't make me laugh, I'm 4 days post c-section and even that is too much 🤣

coldcallerbaiter · 01/11/2023 21:41

I would wait 3 weeks. I was driving and doing light jobs then. Get a robot vac? You could have it this week if it is bought online. You will not regret getting one, it goes under beds and sofas.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 01/11/2023 21:47

Wait the six weeks. It’s really not worth the risk. I had complications and could barely walk for the first couple of weeks. My husband works full time and still managed to hoover a few times a week.

I split my scar sweeping the kitchen a week and a half after my section. It got infected and I had to go to the nurse every second day to change the dressing. It was a real pain because I couldn't drive (due to the c-section) so had to ask for favours from people as DH had gone back to work. Thankfully the infection wasn't bad but it did put me back to square one in terms of recovery.

Let your DH do the hoovering.

Edited to add, I felt totally fine so thought I was OK for light housework but like others have said, there's a lot of internal healing to be done.

Fionaville · 01/11/2023 22:02

After my scar was healed, so a few weeks. I didn't lift it up the stairs or anything though.

Mopbucketmoo · 01/11/2023 22:04

Hoovered the day I came home from hospital after a c section with my 3rd child as my then husband was a lazy knob who did nothing and I came home to a pig sty of a house. I had to make us a dinner too .

I waited about 6 hours. Back in the car the next day. Was in much worse state after 72hr labour and vaginal birth than a semi-elective csection.

Someone couldn’t hoover for you 6 hours after?
Being discharged 6 hours after a section sounds incredibly unlikely.

vipersnest1 · 01/11/2023 22:18

No! All of this competitive 'I did it so you should' is really irritating me....
You've had major abdominal surgery. Would you tell someone who'd had an open hysterectomy that they should be hoovering at that stage? Of course not.
You'll have enough to deal with looking after your baby. I would suggest you can start to think about it when you can stand up, sit down, twist your body and go up and down stairs before you even think of it. Your muscles and skin need to knit back together. You won't help that if you're too active, too soon.

vipersnest1 · 01/11/2023 22:19

Without pain, I should have said...

megletthesecond · 01/11/2023 22:20

I waited for 6 weeks for everything. Nothing was worth risking my recovery. Internal stitches take far longer to heal than external.

MicrowaveRice · 01/11/2023 19:57

I told my husband it was 6 months ...

😂

Totaly · 01/11/2023 22:27

Sshhhhh it’s 6 MONTHS silly.

So is cooking, shopping, washing ….

Snowdayplease · 01/11/2023 22:28

With my 2nd section, it wasn't hoovering but pushing a shopping trolley that "pulled" something inside me. That wound didn't heal for months.

BananaSlug · 01/11/2023 23:13

I don’t think anyone has said the op should? The op asked when others did

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/11/2023 06:12

I was probably too active too soon with my first cs. With my second baby I had a uterine rupture, a haemorrhage, a crash section under GA and couldn't stand up straight for 9 weeks.

Take the time to heal!

Lochness1975 · 02/11/2023 06:18

Congratulations 💐

You’ve just had major abdominal surgery! The Doctors would not tell you to wait unless it was necessary- listen to them.

Georgie4509 · 02/11/2023 12:29

@MicrowaveRice Haha🤣😂🤣

foldingtowels · 01/11/2023 19:51

Thanks all. I do have a partner but he works full time and I have pets so would be easier for me to just run round with the hoover throughout the day.

I work full time and still manage to put the Hoover round. Get your partner to do it.

Doing physical activity against advice can prolong healing time

NotSuchASmugMarried · 02/11/2023 12:41

If you were thinking of replacing your hoover now would be a good time to buy a robot hoover

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/11/2023 14:09

I'd wait, not necessarily the whole 6 weeks( I had a crash CS, and a slightly larger scar)
In the early days, even with a lightweight hoover it's the twisting and movements
Also it can cause heavy bleeding

ghostywoo · 02/11/2023 14:12

I probably did it after about a week. A very hairy cat and a lazy partner necessitated it. Also surely it depends on your hoover? Mine was very light and easy to push around the downstairs laminate. I obviously didn't do the stairs...

Snowdayplease · 02/11/2023 15:55

What really annoyed me when my wound wouldn't heal, was that I had to make repeat visits to the nurse, with baby in tow, but even more so that I couldn't have a bath or go swimming until the bloody thing healed up. So, in hindsight, I would have taken things more easy for a few weeks.
