Tips for selling on Vinted please

I'm going to venture into the world of Vinted this week to sell a few bits.
I've had a look & there's such a vast array of prices for similar objects to each other. There are so many items & some so cheap I have to ask myself if it's worth the time & effort.
Do you have any tips to make it worthwhile?

I've bought trainers on there - make sure that you have a photo of the soles, and of the sizing label! And iron things....

NoNeedToHurry · 31/10/2023 21:34

It's so so easy to use. Takes no time at all to list stuff and buyer pays postage and fees so you keep all the money you get.

I've had a clear out and made £25 so far and it's felt like minimal effort to be honest. I sell things for £1-£3. I'm not gonna make my fortune but that's £25 I wouldn't have had if I'd thrown everything out!

It's definitely worth the effort. Take lots of photos of your items to show all angles, labels etc keep prices low and stuff will sell

Roiesin57 · 31/10/2023 21:34

@mrwalkensir thank you, I'm amazed how much stuff is photographed without ironing

I'd say take the time to wash and iron things

Hellzbellz25 · 31/10/2023 21:34

I always put a few items on all at once and wait for the money to build up in my Vinted account before I transfer it to my bank, it feels worth it then rather than collecting a fiver here and a fiver there

I tend to put named sports gear of my daughters on when we have a clear out, people like a bargain but some also take the mick and expect something for nothing, I just ignore those ones - it's quite easy to do really, just make sure you've got packing material and a printer or a shop near you that prints yodel/Evri labels

HollieHobbie · 31/10/2023 21:38

Good photos, including the labels, tags and any faults. Make sure the description is
as-is. Don't use Febreze! If it's coming from a house with a smoker, or pets say so as some people are highly allergic. Be prepared to take bundle offers! Use as many of the postage options as you can easily do. Review your prices and be prepared for crazy low offers (don't need to accept them)

List on a Saturday morning
Decent photos
Sell season relevant

RunningUpThatBuilding · 31/10/2023 21:47

Check out what couriers / drop off lockers that are within reasonable distance of you and then unselect the others from your settings. In my case, "Evri" are the next town over so I don't bother with them however my local shop does Yodl -so I opt for them as it's a 2 minute walk from my house.

List items for slightly more than you actually want. People like to barter. However decline the rude ones! I got offered £10 for a brand new branded winter coat (with tags) that was worth over £100 and I was selling it for just £40. Few days later I got £40 for it.

Checkcurtains · 31/10/2023 21:49

Honestly don't bother. More hassle than it's worth listing and (possibly) selling for a couple of quid, then you have to go and post at a location chosen by the buyer. Stupid questions from buyers too.

Just give it to charity.

Don't even get me started on buying from vinted, most of the items aren't as described

latenightpartyrings · 31/10/2023 21:51

I've had success with specific branded items that people will be searching for, or unusual sizes or function. Having a number of similar things is useful if people want to buy a bundle - so prioritise listing all the same size at once if that is a factor.

I can't be bothered listing stuff for £1 or so- more because then actually sending the stuff tends to be a hassle and I find the timeline difficult to keep track of (I wish they'd split sales and purchases in Inbox).

Price realistically and accept offers and bundle discounts - bird in the hand and all that.

FiftyNotNifty · 31/10/2023 21:59

I want to get started with this too. Do people buy packing bags to send things in? I bought an item recently and it seemed very professionally wrapped when it arrived!

RunningUpThatBuilding · 31/10/2023 22:03

I bought mailing posting bags from Amazon - very reasonably priced and are waterproof, strong and easy to use.

OopsaDazy · 31/10/2023 22:10

I find it a bit time consuming but okay for making smallish amounts like £30. (I don't have much to sell.)

The bit I find takes time is the ironing, taking photos, cropping photos or editing them to get good images (a lot of sellers just don't bother.)

Then there's the packing and taking to a drop off point or post office. Then you have to photo the cert of posting and send to the buyer.

I worked out that if something sells for £5 you could easily have spent a few hours doing all of the above, especially taking good photos.

I think a lot of sellers take a quick snap with their phone and just upload it there and then, rather than presenting the clothes as best as they can.

You then have to rely on the buyer recording it's received, so you can be paid. Some are slow and I've had a few in the past who said not received, when in fact it was in their porch etc all along.

Cheap black plastic posting bags from Amazon. They cost a few pence each.

Binningtonianrose · 31/10/2023 22:14

Just bear in mind if anything goes wrong there is little to no customer service and Vinted don't give a sharny shite if you have lost money.
If you DO get in contact with a customer service person they are half-wits at best.

DyslexicPoster · 31/10/2023 22:15

Don't upload it all at once. Do four things a day to keep it bumped.

Take photos in bulk and do a few photos, front, close up, back, label, care label. Then keep them in a folder. Then after a few weeks you can delete any item unsold, wait a day then reupload it. Vinted don't like you doing that so slightly change the title and maybe a new first photo or wait 24 hours once you delete it.

PlipPlopChoo · 31/10/2023 22:16

Lots of photos
Be honest about any damage
If anybody in your household smokes make this clear

CeriB82 · 31/10/2023 22:17

Take clear photos
say if its a smoke/pet home (i never buy from smokers🤢)
dont put your price too low, you can then haggle.
if you don’t sell, remove and relist. (I had a pair of jeans on for £5 for over 8 months. Removed it and placed a fresh new listing for £10 and sold it in hours.

Ourshoddyhouse · 31/10/2023 22:18

Take plenty of photos
Iron things
Include a photo of the size label
The more you have listed the more things seem to sell
I always list for £2 or 3 more than I actually want then when people favourite the item I'll send an offer for the price I'm after, on the odd occasion they've sold at the higher amount anyway

Go into your settings and turn off courier options that are a pita for you (Ive switched off Yodel as the drop off is too far away and inpost because there's never empty lockers)

Try to avoid a username with loads of random letters & numbers that's what the scammers tend to have.

You have 5 days to send an item once you've downloaded the label, so if you can't send for a few days don't get the label too early

Have a read of how people can make an offer on a bundle as it's not as easy as it should be and I've had to explain it to buyers a few times.

CeriB82 · 31/10/2023 22:18

Oh and dont use royal mail

i only use yodel store to store or door.

Pollyannaatemyjelly · 31/10/2023 22:20

I've made £80 today. I made sure everything was ironed, well presented and fairly priced. It has been very simple.

Ourshoddyhouse · 31/10/2023 22:23

Sorry also don't worry about labels most you can print at the drop off point.

RM you have to pay for postage and Vinted pay you once the buyer has the item, the others the buyer pays for direct so you're not out of pocket on postage.

FiftyNotNifty · 31/10/2023 23:45

Thank you so much re the bags!
