Have they blocked the filter?
It's often because the filter hasn't been cleaned and/or the outlet is full of solidified fat, bits of rice, peas, corn and all other such nasties. Failing that, if they've not been great at scraping plates off or binning cooking fat and the outlet hose at the other end is connected to the U bend, the bend itself is blocked with all of the above evilness.
Needed:
Rubber gloves
Bowl of hot, soapy water
Washing up sponge
Couple of towels
Bucket that fits underneath the U bend
Something to poke with
- Take filter assembly out. Clean, clean, clean.
- Check the outlet underneath the filter, removing any cruddy bits.
- Put the filter back.
- Check the water in the sink runs away easily.
4a: If it does, there could be a blockage in the hose from DW to U bend.
Bucket underneath U bend where hose connects. Carefully disconnect and place into bucket, keeping the bucket still under the U bend. See if water drains quickly in the sink. Press and hold the Start button (it is on most Bosches, anyway) to see if it forces an emergency drain (ie, pumps any left over water out). A lot of water comes out if this is clear, hence the bucket). Gently use pokey thing (chopstick?), holding it very firmly, to dislodge any nastiness. Check the sticky out bit of U bend where the hose connects to see if it's crudded up.
4b: If when running the tap at 4, it doesn't drain freely, it's likely to be the U bend blocked.
Bucket underneath U bend where hose connects. You're still going to have to remove the hose as in 4a, but this time, you carefully unscrew the entire U bend section, take out and unblock/clean clean clean.
5: Put the U bend and DW hose back gently but firmly, being careful not to cross thread the fittings.
If the sink didn't drain after ensuring the entire U bend and the DW hose is clear, you've got a blockage further along. Call a plumber if nobody can deal with fatberg formation (or unfold a wire coathanger if you're feeling lucky).
