Who actually benefits from changing the clocks?

Kids up at 5:30. Pretty sure that the same thing has happened in many, many houses this morning.

It's just an hour, but so disruptive to children.

Who benefits? Winds me up every year.

Maybe with the present situation in Gaza right now you might want to appropriately rephrase your last question? 🙄😥

But you'd have no problem with the concept of a few dead Scottish children if there was no current escalation in Gaza?
Maybe you might want to rephrase that.

Mexicantortilla · 01/11/2023 20:30

Lovely…..no farm….no food…..no future……are you really that uneducated?

Scotland benefits. Kids would be waking to school in the dark otherwise.

Yes, they trialled keeping the clocks at BST for a couple of years in the sixties or seventies I believe, but then the children in the north of Scotland were having to go to school in the dark.

IWantAShitzu · 01/11/2023 20:31

I love the clock change.
cosy nights in by the fire, means Santa is coming!

You have no idea what, other than your comment, I might have a problem with and to presume that I'd 'have no problem with the concept of a few dead Scottish children' is not only completely irrelevant to the issue but you're actually inferring that if children weren't being slaughtered in Gaza that the notion of 'dead Scottish children wouldn't bother me'? Seriously?! 😱
What is it with some people who can't bear to be even mildly critisised over the slightest thing and then have to resort to talking complete irrational rubbish in retaliation? FFS!!! 🤔🙄

Roxy69 · 01/11/2023 20:34

I love it.

It wasn't just Scotland...I was living in the West Midlands at the time and remember it being dark as *** as we waited for the school bus at 8 A.M.

06:04 this morning, less grumpy, but only slightly.

How are the super mums today?

OP have throughly enjoyed reading all your posts, never change :)
Also with you, it’s such an antiquated, unnecessary pain in the arse.

One of the original reasons for the change was to benefit people like farmers who did have very early starts to the day but over time this has become less and less necessary but in a typical irrational and lazy way the practice has been continued much to the annoyance of many including myself!! 😡
I ABSOLUTELY hate it and am furious that hours of precious and beautiful daylight can be so casually taken from us!! Grrrrrrr!!! They should have a referendum to decide if the majority want to continue with it or not?! 🙄

But they're not taking daylight away. They're giving us more. I'm up at 530. Now the clocks have gone back, it's getting light when I eat breakfast and when I goto work. I also get to run at sunrise at weekends.

shockwaze · 31/10/2023 06:18

Well, fuck fhem.

Why? There’s really no need to be so ignorant. I don’t personally like the time change but farmers similarly don’t have a choice. Whether they like it or not it happens. I’m from a farming family & it doesn’t make a difference to them either way - either they’re out working in the dark in the morning or they’re out working in the dark in the evening. Farming work hours are long.

Yes they are, they're taking it away from me and millions of others who think it gets dark early enough in the winter without making it unnecessarily worse!! 🙄
The idea was originally to help those who had to get up very early for work, farmers and others working on the land but these days that would be the minority of the population.
The EU's survey showed that the majority wanted things left as they are and I am absolutely positive that if there were to be a similar survey done in the UK the outcome would be similar!! 🤔

Snowflakeslayer · 01/11/2023 21:20

It’s no longer relevant and should stop. Simple.

DesteB · 01/11/2023 21:59

In the 60's it was decided for a couple of years not to change the clock. We went to work in the dark and got home in the dark. There was very little daylight and it was awfull. Im in the NE of Scotland.

Scotland32 · 01/11/2023 22:00

“Fuck the farmers”?
yep, great idea. Then we can all starve. Or do you eat food that isn’t grown by farmers?

ShatteredPeace · 01/11/2023 22:05

@Cariadm as discussed countless times on this thread, that's not true. The clocks were changed in summer to extend the day.

Mamanyt · 01/11/2023 22:40

Motnight · 31/10/2023 06:16

Isn't it the farmers?

Not really. THEY are going to work from sunup to sundown regardless of what hour you say it is. And cows want milking on a regular basis...they get testy when it is early or late, not wearing watches!

The one who actually benefit are BIG companies, who save on electric bills.

OurfriendsintheNE · 01/11/2023 22:53

Sunrise in the winter would be close to 10 am here if we stayed on BST, that’d be grim. Staying on GMT all year round wouldn’t be too bad, but not so great if you live in the south of England.

IamFamousIam · 01/11/2023 22:58

May as well blame the farmers everything else is our fault.

If anyone can find a few extra hours of daylight, now that would be handy!

SophiaLaB · 01/11/2023 23:06

Really!! Let’s see how long we all manage to survive without the farmers.

I agree.

Myrestingwitchface · 01/11/2023 23:53

Omg the farmers DON’T CARE guys chill!!!

”the NFU's director of strategy, Martin Haworth said the union 'does not have strong views' on whether the UK should or should not put the clocks back.

“The last time we tested opinion among our members there was a narrow majority in favour of lighter evenings,” he said.
“Whether an extra hour’s daylight would be more beneficial in the morning or the evening depends very much on the work pattern on each individual farm”

LadyMacB · 02/11/2023 00:12

The only people who continue to benefit from it are SELFISH DOG OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR DOGS EVERYWHERE.

JaneTheVirgin · 02/11/2023 00:20

Why are schoolchildren who are unable to safely cross the road walking themselves to school? Did I miss something?

Redragtoabull · 02/11/2023 00:31

For those with kids waking up at silly o'clock in the mornings, I used to keep mine up an extra 15 mins a night for a few days and got them back into their 7am wake up, black out curtains are a godsend!
