Car Park Space

I went shopping today. It’s half term so very busy!

I thought ooh that’s lucky last child and parent space. anyway the car a little in front pulls and she had no children with her!

I find a space pull up and I can’t get my LO out the car. I’ve got a travel system, LO is only a few months so their seat clicks onto the pram.

So… I very childishly go round and park behind the person who parked in child space. Ultimately blocking her in.

When I return just short of an hour later, to say she was raging was an understatement. I loaded shopping and LO into the car without saying a word. I was called a bich, cut. Before I left I said to her, you say you were just popping in for one thing, so it was quicker for you to park here, you’d been gone 15 minutes by the time I’d parked and left, so that’s not a quick stop and I couldn’t go in at all because you took a spot I needed.

Anyway, no idea how long she was waiting for me, I’m quite surprised she didn’t phone the vet police! I know I was being unreasonable and very childish but please think before you park in a space others may genuinely need!

Did yi aye?

PenguinRainbows · 26/10/2023 15:49

YABVU. You’re very lucky your car was still there when you got back.

Starbeeees · 26/10/2023 15:49

So OP, what would you have done if there were no available spaces when you arrived?

its a dick move for people to use spaces not made for their circumstances, but why stoop to a lower level ?

PhantomUnicorn · 26/10/2023 15:53

Was it the last space in the entire carpark? Unless it was you were very unreasonable.

Can't believe you even did something like this. ridiculous.

NotSoEasyLemonPeel · 26/10/2023 15:53

I was very childish in my sleep deprived state!

Yes I’m shocked she hadn’t phoned the police or punched me! 😂

..🙄🙄

Toottooot · 26/10/2023 16:02

Did you not block the whole lane of the carpark too? Maist supermarkets near me would be blocked if someone were to do this.

Carebearstartrek · 26/10/2023 16:07

Your great, well done. I wish I had the balls to do the same. I'll think of that everytime I see an 'person' park in the parent/child spot.

MaggieFS · 26/10/2023 16:08

Really? I mean, I've shouted at people (taken from mumsnet) that I think they've forgotten their child, but I wouldn't actually do that. No point in lowering oneself to their standards.

jiinglebells · 26/10/2023 16:10

How on earth did you manage to park behind them and block them in without also blocking the cars next to them in / blocking the car park lane?! Anywhere near me you'd have caused absolute carnage 😂

PuttingDownRoots · 26/10/2023 16:12

Grow up.

P&C spaces are great but they don't exist everywhere and you need to be able to cope without one.

My last resort was parking half out and putting the baby seat in the boot for the final manoeuvre (or vice versa, as it was more likely to be an issue on the way home).

donquixotedelamancha · 26/10/2023 16:12

I don't think YABU at all. The police would not care. The owner of the parking would doubtless tell you both off.

RedPony1 · 26/10/2023 16:14

There's nearly always spaces at the back of the car park, you could have gone there and been able to open your doors wider.

lightinthebox · 26/10/2023 16:15

You thought it safe to be driving with a small child when you were in a ‘sleep deprived state’?

2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps · 26/10/2023 16:18

P&C are a courtesy, not an obligation. Get over yourself.
You're clearly proud of your behaviour to have posted it on here, so you're doubly immature.

BitofaStramash · 26/10/2023 16:19

She was in the wrong.

But you were even worse.

bigageap · 26/10/2023 16:21

Honestly until I started scrolling mumsnet I had not idea how precious people are over parent & child spaces! 🙄

TheMadHattter · 26/10/2023 16:22

Haha this made me laugh. I hate it when people use child spaces who have no children but usually just give them the stink eye. You're really lucky you didn't get a ticket or towed so don't do it again but it is funny 🤣

pinkyredrose · 26/10/2023 16:23

So you parked behind her and placed your car as an obstacle to other cars? Why didn't you park somewhere else?

You shouldn't be driving if you're that tired.

Wellhellooooodear · 26/10/2023 16:23

If this did actually happen, which I doubt YABU.

Mademetoxic · 26/10/2023 16:24

What is wrong with the spaces further away from the store?

Where people don't normally park, then you'll have more room.

honeyandfizz · 26/10/2023 16:26

How pathetic. You not her.

WillowCraft · 26/10/2023 16:27

lightinthebox · 26/10/2023 16:15

All mums of small babies are sleep deprived... Often for a year or more.

lightinthebox · 26/10/2023 16:30

I’ve had a child with colic as a baby so get sleep deprived. It’s why I question driving when you’re that tired, I wouldn’t risk it.

Exactly this!

Or just put the pram part of your "travel system" in the boot and take the baby out of their car seat and into the pram in a normal space.

The whole thing with P&C spaces piss me off tbh. They're there as a connivence to make things a bit easier but lots of places don't have them so relying on them to the point you literally can't get your baby out of the car is just ridiculous. I could not care less if I saw a lone adult or parent with older kids using them - they're not disabled bays! Completely unenforceable.
