To not want to order via an app in a restaurant!

Visited a restaurant for brunch today, it wasn’t super fancy but £12 for eggs Benedict to give an idea of price.
we were told to sit anywhere that’s free and then use the QR code on the table to see the menu and order. I must’ve pulled a face as she said she would get a paper menu and that we could order at the counter.
surely part of eating out if the experience and the service and this is all part of what you pay for?

I don't mind them - however in Pizza Express they have an app, but it never works until you've ordered and they've "opened" the table.
Wouldn't like it in somewhere more upmarket.

I worked as a waitress when I was 14 in a little seaside place, it’s 40 years ago now. That summer and those experiences really stuck with me as it was the first job I got a wage and the road to adulthood. All those little interactions. I especially remember a woman who was so nice to me after I accidentally broke a glass.

So though I have used those apps I am really not keen on them. We are not anti tech in this house. DH and I were programming back in the 1980’s and I was writing web pages back in the mid 1990’s. What I am anti is the march towards humans having to barely interact with each other.

Online forums overall are where many who are socially anxious, inept or anti social gather so questions like this will often have skewed answers. People need to always keep that in mind.

I hate ordering on an app too. It's a real cheek when a place is expensive.

I prefer it. I don't see how a server taking my order verbally and tapping into a tablet or scribbling it down adds to the dining experience or would make a lonely person's day brighter.

Then I think you’re going to the wrong places! I often pop out for a tea/lunch when I’m working from home and I always go to the places where the staff are friendly and get to know me, we might have a short chat etc. Even if it’s a new place, I’ll go back if the staff are friendly. Otherwise I may as well make my tea at home!

I've ordered and paid at a lot of places via my phone before but I've never had to download an app. It's always been a scan a barcode and it opens a website on the browser.

I agree.

I want to go to a restaurant to relax and do as little as possible. That includes someone coming in to take my order. Also it is easier if you have a question about the content of a dish or a drink before you decide to order it to speak to an actual human being...

I think the QR code thing is just laziness from restaurants and cafes and a way to reduce staff.

Same. Yet, to find a place where there is no choice but to download an app.
