NYE what do people do?

Do you do a house party with friends or family? Go out to a restaurant or party? Do you go away, if yes, where is nice to spend NYE

We haven't really 'done' NYE since covid, before that the kids were small so we did a few dinners with neighbours with similarly aged dc.

I am not a huge fan as I like to sleep early😂but willing to stay up till midnight if it's fun. So what are your plans?

We are not that interested in staying up partying or seeing in the new year at midnight .

We go with friends to have a lovely pub meal at lunch time , toast the New year and then go home to cosy up .

Floralnomad · 25/10/2023 20:50

We do nothing , never have . When I was a night nurse I always worked it including the millennium.

Squirrelblanket · 25/10/2023 20:50

We stay home, just us two. We have nibbles and a few drinks but we're usually asleep by 11pm. Sometimes I wake up when I hear the fireworks and watch them from bed with the blinds open.

Blackandwhitemakesgrey · 25/10/2023 20:53

We go to a restaurant in the early evening time with DC. We take public transport so DH and I can have wine with dinner. We are home by 9ish and the kids are in bed by 9.30pm!

FunkyMonks · 25/10/2023 20:53

Nothing I've never been a massive fan of NYE.
Always have felt it's over hyped super expensive.

I much prefer Christmas Eve Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

When I was much younger I use to go out or to parties but now I'm married and have two youngsters I'm usually in bed before midnight even arrives 🤣🤣.

HomeatRoseCottage · 25/10/2023 20:54

Hosting a fancy dinner party for some friends and our various small children. The children will hopefully be asleep after ‘fake‘ countdown and fireworks at 9.

aintnospringchicken · 25/10/2023 20:56

We don't do anything now. We're usually in bed before the bells or watch the fireworks in town from the bedroom window is it's a clear night.

I love the idea of watching fireworks from bed! But I feel like I should do something sociable.

Going to a restaurant also sounds nice @Blackandwhitemakesgrey how old are your dc?

We usually host a party with all welcome
Then NYD dinner with family
Then sleep for 2 days 🤣

Raera · 25/10/2023 20:58

Since kids left home, we go away in the campervan, just DH and I. We eat in a pub/restaurant, then back to the van for more wine and watch Hootenanny. Love it!
During Covid when campsites were open but pubs weren't, we cooked in the van and still had a lovely time

Primary school! Youngest is year 5.

Woahtherehoney · 25/10/2023 21:01

Years ago I used to go out and get very…merry haha. Now we stay in with DSS, get a Chinese and watch the fireworks on tv - it’s become a bit of a tradition for us. My Mum will sometimes join if she isn’t working.

Its much cheaper than going anywhere and can fully relax!

Coffee473 · 25/10/2023 21:01

Last NYE we had friends over with kids the same age (early teens). Nice buffet-style food, kids played computer games for a bit, adults had a few drinks, then some family games, things like throw throw burrito and the family edition of cards against humanity went down well! Watched the countdown on TV.

Sparehair · 25/10/2023 21:03

Quite often have friends to stay or go to stay with friends. Sometimes make midnight. This year we are going skiing so I doubt we’ll see midnight as kids have 9am lessons on NYD.

Catsmere · 25/10/2023 21:04

In the years when I had horrible noisy neighbours I would book an interstate overnight train to get away from the racket. Fortunately where I live now is much quieter. I have zero interest in it.

Fidgety31 · 25/10/2023 21:04

We go to the pub and have a really good night and drink far too much booze

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/10/2023 21:05

As little as possible! The only nyes I've actually enjoyed have been at home with my own family.

VickyEadieofThigh · 25/10/2023 21:08

Nothing. We stay at home, just the two of us, because we see it as just another date on the calendar.

10HailMarys · 25/10/2023 21:09

We tend to spend Christmas dashing around driving family up and down the country and hosting at our house, so we really value NYE at home with just the two of us. I do all the Christmas cooking (which is my choice) so DP cooks us a fancy three course dinner and then we get a bit (very) pissed and play board games while listening to a playlist of our favourite songs of the year. We usually make it until about 1am and then crash into bed. I generally wear glamorous pyjamas from 6pm onwards.

YokoOnosBigHat · 25/10/2023 21:12

As a teenager/early 20s I did normal party/pub stuff. Mid 20s until we had kids we did dinner with friends which was usually more booze than food and everyone was leathered by the time Jools Holland was getting really irritating.

Since having kids we've watched a couple of films (an early and a late one!) with a takeaway. Now the kids are old enough to stay up they get involved with this and the choosing of the films and we have "cocktails" (lemonade, various food colouring and cocktail cherries with a curly straw). We live on a very high hill on one side of London, so get amazing views of all of the fireworks from our top bedroom!

975zyx · 25/10/2023 21:22

It’s my favourite day of the year. We used to do some seriously heavy-duty partying pre-kids, but now cook a nice meal and play board games whilst listening to heavy metal Grin

AmberFields · 25/10/2023 21:26

As a teen it was massive fancy dress pub crawl round town. Then in twenties it was always a party then when with DH we did two parties then decided to have 2000 by ourselves in our new house just bought and had a lovely NY. Next year I was heavily PG and remember watching fireworks all round the neighbouring houses. Then a mixture of some family round a few years, or us to them or just us. Then DS age 18 had a huge house party at our house in 2019, I had about 25 teenagers here and we were going to sit upstairs but got dragged in and it was brilliant. Last 2 years we have been to a friends and then this year they came to us for board games and take away.

My absolute favourites were 2000/2019 and then my teen years.

ChristmasIsComing2023 · 25/10/2023 21:27

We stay up until midnight but that’s about it 😂 I will probably drink a snowball, dp will probably drink wine and ds will either be asleep or playing 🤷‍♀️😂

BellaAndDave · 25/10/2023 21:28

We go to the lantern parade in a village near us then home for a late dinner, some wine and tv. There’s always a lovely firework display near us at midnight so we watch that with fizz, have a wee whisky to toast those no longer with us then bed.
