To not feel that well off with a household income of £100k?

Live in London. Both of us are on £50k. We work 9am-7pm. Sometimes longer. Can’t afford to buy yet.

When I was younger I always thought a household on £100k would feel well off. We don’t. Obviously we are fortunate to afford food and rent etc, but we can’t afford long haul holidays or nice clothes.

My point is that London has been unaffordable for many years, and that requires saving and giving things up in order to buy, which will probably be outside of London. This has been the situation for 20 plus years. OP might be surprised but the info that 100k doesn’t go that far in London isn’t news.

And it looks like op won’t be back because it was indeed a goady thread.

Okay, but does that mean that people can’t talk about it? No.

if it’s uninteresting to someone, there is once again the option of not engaging.

Edited

if it’s goady, it’s because some are insistent on getting wound up and making someone else’s situation about them. You can choose not to be goaded by not inserting yourself in the first place. If a subject isn’t relevant to you, move on 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whether OP is a troll or not doesn’t mean the situation described isn’t one people aren’t actually in.

The thread is fairly pointless since the OP gave almost no details.
They might be struggling on 100k but could easily make changes to save money
or they might be struggling on 100k because they have 2 DC in nursery and big mortgage , both of which are fixed costs without much wiggle room.

People struggling on minimum wage might have less scope to make changes because they are already living on the bare minimum....apart from the MN advice "retrain" or "take in ironing"
