To think fair play to Coleen

TVaddict23 · 22/10/2023 23:41

OK so obviously in the grand scheme of things it is all bloody ridiculous. However I have just watched the Coleen Rooney doc on Disney and think yeah fair play.

She never wanted the court case, that was all Rebecca Vardy and clearly she was right in what she originally posted.

I think she came across really likeable.

@TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening with all due respect the Catholic thing is a big thing.

Quite a few divorces in my wider family on the Catholic side. I think it’s easy to hold that up as the reason for not divorcing as people are less likely to argue against it.

StoneWashJeansWithAMatchingJacket · 23/10/2023 19:38

I have no idea whether CR is genuinely a nice person but I do think she’s savvy and far, far smarter than RV. Which isn’t difficult tbf. Colleen knows how to put herself across well and that’s important when you have the life she has. I was pleasantly surprised as well that her feckless husband showed up to court every day to support her, it made their marriage look strong. The rare times Jamie Vardy showed up he looked (understandably) pissed off and like he really wished he wasn’t there.

As for why Colleen has stayed with Wayne, I think a lot of it is because they’ve been together since they were literally children themselves it’s all she’s ever known and maybe she’s a bit very old fashioned- marriage is for life even if your husband has risked your sexual health several times and keeps breaking his marriage vows in really public ways.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/10/2023 19:44

@Potaytocrisps I wasn't being an apologist. My dad left my mum for another woman after 32 years of a quite brutal marriage which she stayed in because of her beliefs.
I just think it's quite well documented that when asked CR states her Catholicism.

GunboatDiplomacy · 23/10/2023 19:44

I'll always stick up for her about the court case because I was so pissed off by the lazy misogynist "they're each as bad as each other, silly bitchy women airing their dirty linen in public" narrative I heard so often at the time. If I were her I'd absolutely have done the same thing. It's not as if she could have stopped the lawsuit.

It's just weird that if someone started a thread saying their husband was caught paying for sex workers and that she kept finding evidence that he's still sleeping with other people, MN would be like

  • LTB
  • why did you keep having more kids with him
  • A child is happier growing up in 2 separate homes and with a mother who is not being cheated on
  • do you want your daughter to grow up thinking that's ok
  • cheating is abuse

But when it's a celeb, MN fawns over her.

Difference is if someone starts thread here they are asking for comments/advice, CR isn’t.

As a catholic, I agree with this. Only one person (younger) in my huge extended family has ever gotten divorced.

I stayed in an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship for years because the norm is to support the partner no matter what.

TenderDandelions · 24/10/2023 10:00

I warmed to Wayne in the third episode. He does seem to have finally grown up (it seems to take footballers longer, as they're treated like children by their football teams right through from the academies up to the professional teams) and the final clip she recorded of them at the Lewis Capaldi concert was really sweet.

The moment the Caroline message said "It's not someone she trusted - it was me" - I'd missed that from the press coverage at the time, so my jaw dropped!

I can't believe RV let it get to trial. I can only assume that she thought her PR and legal team (and herself) were smarter...

We now await RV's own version of events I'm sure...!

diddl · 24/10/2023 17:29

I was watching it & thinking why not just block who you think it is?

Must be awful to think that someone is your friend & realise that not only are they not, but that they are throwing you under the bus for their own gain.

And I think that that duplicity of the press also needed showing tbh.

That they are printing shit on the say so of well who?

And insta friend ffs!

I wonder in hindsight whether she thinks the same thing, or to avoid any confrontation, leave RV as a follower but do the reverse of the trap thing. Keep posting but to everyone other than her.

In reality, it was a bit of a shit storm - CR was homesick and lonely and fed up of her private posts being splashed around and massively over-exaggerated. As they say, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

At the end of the day, RV has also learned a valuable lesson (and maybe hopefully has her agent too) as otherwise she would have moved on to the next most famous person in her friends list and started selling stories on them too. She was already leaking stories from the Leicester training room.

And the papers at least used to print so much crap without verifying it. I remember a story once about a red top that had a "tip line" for £250. Someone phoned in with a totally fake story about Amy Winehouse and it made the paper a few days later.

diddl · 25/10/2023 15:37

I think that she'd be more than justified in blocking(?) RV now.

Didn't her & her Caroline Hall(?) say something along the lines of CR being a cunt & completely up her own arse?

Sk8erboi · 25/10/2023 23:07

She did take steps to stop it happening by removing RV.
RV then messaged her about it, such a cheek considering she knew what she was doing.
I dont blame Coleen for taking the course of action she did after that.

Yes I suppose I don't really understand why she unblocked her.

I didn't get the sense that they were particular friends & that it should have mattered that she had blocked RV.

There were too many people it might have been though. Cutting off several people because one of them is a snake but you don't know which one is a miserable way to live so the trap was the right thing to do

Obviously once she was sure she could have just frozen RV out and said nothing but CR had done nothing wrong, and if she wanted to tell the truth publicly why shouldn't she?

KenAdams · 26/10/2023 08:57

The fact that it was in The Sun immediately ruled out most of the 300. If RV had gone to the Daily Mail it would have been less obvious but she doesn't come across as very bright. I think the court case was the only way out (potentially) for RV because she thinks she's smarter than everyone else and didn't realise that CR would be so prepared.

She stays with Wayne because he owns her. Her and her family's lifestyles depend on him and if she wasn't with him, her kids would be exposed to all sorts through Wayne's behaviour. If he acts like this when he's married with kids at home, imagine what he'd be like single.

diddl · 26/10/2023 09:06

I thought that by the time she blocked RV she was already pretty sure it was her?

If they weren't particular friends I can't see how it would matter whether she blocked RV or not tbh.

Well as the court case showed it's fine to tell your truth publicly if you can back it up.

Initially she couldn't & so was trying to settle.

yeekls · 26/10/2023 09:43

I avoided all of it seeing it as embarrassing nonsense but decided to watch the Disney doc (not the dramatisation) I didn't really have an opinion on Colleen before, but I really respect her now. I feel bad dismissing it as nonsense, falling for the misogynistic "school girl" argument. I understand why she did what she did, Vardy comes off awfully. I think Colleen made some mistakes along the way too but she is human and I understood her train of thought.

Stomacharmeleon · 26/10/2023 09:53

@KenAdams I think that last paragraph is quite belittling and minimising Colleen and her worth. She is successful in her own right and if she walked away from Wayne she would be set for life.

It also belittles her marriage. We may not agree that she should/ shouldn't have stayed but she has made it clear she believes in the sanctity of marriage. So reducing her clearly deep faith is wrong.

LadyBird1973 · 26/10/2023 10:27

I think Coleen has plenty of her own money by now.
I also don't think she would do anything that she doesn't want to do. She comes across as definitely knowing her own mind and making her own decisions.

yeekls · 26/10/2023 10:40

@LadyBird1973 that's what I felt from the doc too, have to admit I always thought she was stuck with WR but on watching the doc she came across very much in control of her situation. I don't understand why she sticks with someone like WR but I don't think she's a victim, and I certainly didn't think it was only for money, as you say if they divorced she wouldn't be destitute!
