To think fair play to Coleen

TVaddict23 · 22/10/2023 23:41

OK so obviously in the grand scheme of things it is all bloody ridiculous. However I have just watched the Coleen Rooney doc on Disney and think yeah fair play.

She never wanted the court case, that was all Rebecca Vardy and clearly she was right in what she originally posted.

I think she came across really likeable.

What's that got to do with anything?

It's just weird that if someone started a thread saying their husband was caught paying for sex workers and that she kept finding evidence that he's still sleeping with other people, MN would be like

  • LTB
  • why did you keep having more kids with him
  • A child is happier growing up in 2 separate homes and with a mother who is not being cheated on
  • do you want your daughter to grow up thinking that's ok
  • cheating is abuse

But when it's a celeb, MN fawns over her.

She's rich enough to leave but chooses to stay with a man who is repeatedly unfaithful.

Maybe she loves him in a way that outweighs that. People can choose what they'll put up with.

Unlikely to be money.

BloodandGlitter · 23/10/2023 16:09

Of course she's going to come across well in a documentery about her that she's in charge of. You wouldn't paint yourself as nasty if you had the option to make yourself look a saint.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/10/2023 16:29

I believe Colleen is Catholic and so believes in the sanctity of marriage aka 'for better or worse'.

megletthesecond · 23/10/2023 16:33

To be fair, CR had walked out with the kids and gone to her parents house when RV started leaking her private details.

TenderDandelions · 23/10/2023 16:40

I really like her too. I'm now half way through the second episode, but I totally get why she did it, especially on top of all the stress of being away from home.

She was very clever to say that it was RV's "account" rather than accuse RV directly.

In hindsight she probably thinks "I should have just confronted her then blocked her", but RV would have then just moved on to the next payday I'm sure.

I also was shocked by the attitude towards her when she was a 16 year old school girl. Her parents seem wonderful.

It did make me chuckle though when she accidentally kept leaving other people on the posts! It's exactly the kind of thing I would do then would be swearing at myself saying "FFS, now I've got to come up with another story"!

Vermin · 23/10/2023 16:43

What @Stomacharmeleon said - she’s properly catholic and so won’t divorce.( I think that was woven into the Mexico gender selection fake story that she fed to Vardy too)

Turfwars · 23/10/2023 16:49

LylaLee · 23/10/2023 12:00

She's Catholic.

Divorce is a sin in that religion and marriage is for life so while she could legally separate from him, any divorce would never be recognised in the RCC and her church would consider her to be married to him regardless of what their legal status is.

BoohooWoohoo · 23/10/2023 16:52

Totally agree.
I haven't seen the trolling of RV start up
again (but accept that I might hang out in the wrong places) which is a good thing.

TiaraBoo · 23/10/2023 16:56

But she didn’t start a thread. If she does, then I’m sure she’ll get strong advice!

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/10/2023 16:56

I've always liked Colleen, she used to have a TV programme I watched and she came across really well.

Her marriage, I don't think that's any of my business.

RV, complete and utter two faced twat.

TiaraBoo · 23/10/2023 16:58

Thought I’d pressed reply to lylalee.
How are you supposed to quote someone! 😖

PTSDBarbiegirl · 23/10/2023 17:03

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/10/2023 11:54

Yup Team Colleen here too

One of the (many) Vardy low moments in the programme for me was the text exchange after CR had unfollowed and RVs publicist clocked it and told her, RV then suggested she would test the water by talking to her about Rosie.

How utter cunt like Confused

This was all I had to see to see the vapid, preying nasty cows for real. Extremely nasty prices of work.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/10/2023 17:22

Jesus their house is GINORMOUS though! She looks so tiny in it Grin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/10/2023 17:24

Lyla to be fair though that's not what this topic is about. Her reasons for staying with an adulterous arse are separate to the court case

To be fair some of that was appalling. She didn't deserve that

PTSD a pair of vultures

The top 3 dots on the right hand side, then quote. Reply just replies to all, which is annoying!

MrsMurphyIWish · 23/10/2023 18:47

Agree with all posts.

I also began comparing Rooney with Beckham (as watched his documentary). Beckham expected his family to follow him around the world. Colleen, obviously unhappy in America, pushed Wayne to move back to England. Difference? Wayne proven to be unfaithful, David “allegedly”.

qazxc · 23/10/2023 18:52

Rebbecca Vardy probably thought she would be able to force Colleen into a settlement and apology.
She didn't realise how prepared Collen was, didn't know that the redacted nasty texts could be seen, thought she could hide behind " it may have been my account but nothing to do with me, just a bad egg in my pr team" narrative.

CaroleSinger · 23/10/2023 18:56

She is likeable but staying with a man who has cheated on her repeatedly does question what a low bar she has with what she's prepared to settle for. And sadly I think she IS settling. Should could do far better.

LadyBird1973 · 23/10/2023 19:12

I actually liked Wayne in that documentary. I know he's done some really awful things but o found myself liking him far more than David Beckham, for whom I had sympathy regarding the awful press and public bullying, but didn't actually warm to as a person. I think DB came across as very selfish, whereas WR, for all his issues, seems to genuinely want his wife to be happy and is willing to put her happiness above his preferred career location. Those things matter - the story of a marriage isn't only about sexual fidelity.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 23/10/2023 19:16

She came across brilliantly, as did her family.
I can't get my head around why she stays with him really, though aside from the Catholic thing, I wonder if it's because she doesn't want a revolving door of stepmums in her kids life?

SkyFullofStars1975 · 23/10/2023 19:25

Wayne has publicly humiliated her time and time again. So why does she stay? She knows that as Mrs Rooney she can have public events opened especially for her (Winter Wonderland sort of thing), she gets VIP treatment through the airport, and she can blag concert tickets/red carpet events. As the ex Mrs Rooney, once he's replaced her with a 20 year old Instagram wannabe, she'd be history albeit wealthy and no one will be giving her VIP nights out.

She has sold her soul for the lifestyle... and I'd say given how she's disfiguring herself with surgery, I would imagine it's a gilded cage. Yes in comparison to RV she's Mary Poppins.... but I can't warm to her.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/10/2023 19:26

@TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening with all due respect the Catholic thing is a big thing.
