Hi I’m looking for advice on which to go for
both are automatic petrol as has to be auto.
clio rs line or captur gt line

Ive only ever driven smaller hatchbacks eg fiat punto so the captur makes me nervous however it does have reverse camera and park assist etc .

Family of 4, no pushchairs , 1 graco car seat ( the high back 4-12years seat )
1 tall teen.

Both are similar price just shy of 15k and the Clio is higher price by around £500

insurance is about the same
I live where there are no showrooms etc so have to buy online did manage to sit kids in back if captur and plenty of space

  • please don’t suggest any other cars as it’s these two we’ve got it down to and between Any advice appreciated many thanks

I would never choose the smaller car.

Justkoko · 21/10/2023 17:22

Captur. They are just roomier and you get used to a slightly bigger car. They aren't unmanageably big, just a nice size.

Thank you ,
I do think captur is far more practical and most likely will go for that and hope I get used to the slightly bigger car makes me abit nervous tbh but , I have looked at dimensions and it’s not that much bigger at all but because of the higher seat etc it makes me think it is.

Captur, you ll be used to the slightly bigger size after a few days.

didldidi · 21/10/2023 17:34

Captur, higher than the Clio so easier for getting in and out of with the car seat

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 21/10/2023 17:34

If you buy the car online as a distance sale you can hand the car back within 14 days for any reason whatsoever for a full refund, obviously the car must be in the same condition. I work at a motor dealer and for example a lady rejected a delivered distance sale Peugeot 208 as she just found the seat too low and uncomfortable. She brought the car back to us, we checked the mileage and condition and then paid her back to her bank account and dropped her off at the station. I would go for Captur of your 2 choices, however you have a healthy budget there. Have you considered something like a Ford EcoSport, they're a nice small auto, and a more reliable brand and better build quality in my opinion.

Teal222 · 21/10/2023 18:30

Thanks
I’ll more than likely go for the captur and hope I get used to it. Makes more sense for space to go on holidays etc
The thing I’m worried most about is parking it out and about however it does come with sensors camera and even park assist .

I've had both and defo prefer the captur. We are a family of 5 and the captur is still quite small but find it runs better as our clio had alot of issues with it being low down.

ShowOfHands · 21/10/2023 18:41

What is it that worries you about parking?

macandcheeses · 21/10/2023 18:46

There is a website called car sized where you will be able to view them together and see the difference in dimensions easily. That may give you confidence as it's only a few cams difference. It is bit of a clunky website to use but very helpful

I have a captur and it's small! I can't fit much in the boot, and the central cup holder drives me insane as the kids kick it off all the time. The satnav is out of date now but is so badly designed ; you can't move it at all so if it's sunny or shadowy you can't read it.
It's very cute looking, and the seats are comfy but I would not buy it again.

wwyd2021medicine · 21/10/2023 19:00

Captur as it has higher driving position

Just because I’m not used to parking cars that size only a tiny punto before lol.
but it does have the sensors and camera to guide me so hopefully all be ok

Oh really I didn’t realise that about the sat nav , you say it’s small it looks big to me lol but seriously is it like driving a hatchback ? I’m probably worrying about nothing as it does look small compared to some cars I see but probably seems big to me as used to superminis

I drive a Fiat 500 which is titchy so understand being used to driving a small car but I happily drive DH's much bigger car and a minibus at work and my parents' medium size car and parking is the same in all of them. You use your mirrors and line up with the kerb or the space itself. I don't ever using parking sensors and have never driven a car with cameras.

The size of the car shouldn't make a difference. Honestly.

Moomoomo · 21/10/2023 19:07

I have a diesel clio as my work car/runaround and I really don't like it. It's feels too speedy and tries to rush around corners. Fine for rural driving but a pest in the town. It always manages to fail it's Mot impressively as well. I seem to be in a minority though as the 4 other people I know with them love them. Personally I can't wait to get rid of it so I'd not recommend!

OneFrenchEgg · 21/10/2023 19:10

I find it very easy to drive; parking is fine. It does not feel like a big car at all, ver my much in small car territory

Thank you , I’m looking at buying a 19 plate gt line
so many votes for the captur on here so think it is more practical:)

A captur is not much bigger than a punto. It's just taller. You'll get used to it quickly. I wouldn't recommend either for a family of four with a pram.

Teal222 · 22/10/2023 15:59

Thanks all so far looks like captur is definitely the one I’m going to get, I don’t know how true it is but I read some people have had endless problems with a Clio costing lots £££ so I am going to look at purchasing a captur hopefully in the next week

Aller en Renault, retour en vélo

AIstolemylunch · 22/10/2023 16:07

We've got aa 2017 Clio as a second car run about that my teens have/are learning to drive in. TBH it's been bullet proof, no issues at all. But it's way too small and low down for a family putting toddlers and pushchairs in imo. I regularly got to a weekly event in a friend's Capture and it's way more practical for a family imo. Roomier inside.

You can make anything work though, it was our only car during COVID and we went on 2 UK holiday with 3 teens in the back and 3 bodyboards and a load of luggage so never say never! (Though they cartainly did 😄)

Pippa12 · 22/10/2023 16:08

You’ll find the higher driving position makes parking much easier. I have a Kadjar (from a micra) and find parking it fine.

I like the drive of it, but would be reluctant to buy a Renault again. Electrics aren’t reliable (wing mirrors don’t always come out, radio/sat nav doesn’t always turn on, once my indicators stopped working for no reason then started again!) and the ‘entertainment system’ is painfully slow.

As I said above I've had both (currently have the captur) and the client had a lot of issues with the ball joints etc because its low down. Deof get the captur!
