People too lazy to go to top of bus

Finlesswonder · 19/10/2023 11:45

Before you say "oh maybe they have an invisible disability" - I seriously doubt that the bus is full of these twice a day, every day, which is how often I take the bus.

I get on at the terminus so it's empty. Without fail people would rather cram themselves onto the bottom or sometimes even stand than go through the trauma of hauling their asses up to the upper deck.

How bloody lazy are people, it drives me crazy! One girl actually preferred to take the back seat and sit there mouth breathing and facing three of us rather than take 8 steps

I sometimes wonder what it must be like to have little to worry about…just go on the top deck…

JamSandle · 19/10/2023 11:59

I dont like going upstairs on buses as I once got harassed up there and feel trapped. I like to be downstairs where I know I can easily get off if something happens.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/10/2023 11:59

If there is a seat at the back why shouldn’t a girl sit there.

and why don’t you go to the top, it doesn’t make a difference that it is not full at the bottom. You’re sense of one rule for me and another for everyone else is ridiculous

ilovesooty · 19/10/2023 11:59

I fell on a suddenly braking bus a couple of years ago and hit my head hard on a step. I wouldn't go upstairs on a bus now unless I had no alternative.

Beaverbridge · 19/10/2023 12:00

Worse are the ones who get on busy bus all seats taken and crowd at the front. Driver was shouting today please move back to let others on. They all looked at each other and stood there. Fuds.

pizzaHeart · 19/10/2023 12:01

in my experience young people happily go up, as to others … a lot of people do have problems and these stairs are not easy. I myself currently have a problem which makes going up and down stairs really painful and if it’s really necessary I do it very slowly. You wouldn’t believe it looking at me but that’s the plain truth. It’s absolutely impossible to get a medical help on NHS for something like this quickly so my only option is to stay downstairs.

I also have a theory that richer and more successful people have less medical problems and also use buses less. The buses in my town are full or students and pensioners who have free bus passes and usually travel a few stops.

Topseyt123 · 19/10/2023 12:02

You go upstairs if you hate it so much on the lower deck.

I have no defined disability, but do have one broken arm that has never healed fully and I also have poor balance. I struggle with those stairs and always have. None of these issues are visible.

Not a chance that I'd even try to get upstairs to suit a cat's bum face like you showing me disapproval. Thankfully, I haven't encountered any.

I am considering going to top deck even though the bus is empty when I get on just so I don't have to see it

Problem solved! 😂

There was a seat available and you’re cross someone had the audacity to sit there?
You expected her to go upstairs so you could… not have her facing you?
🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Bonjovispjs · 19/10/2023 12:04

A lot of people only go 2 or 3 stops, so it's hardly worth them going upstairs 🤷🏻‍♀️

dangerrabbit · 19/10/2023 12:05

I find this annoying too so I generally solve this problem by sitting upstairs on the bus 🤔

Curlysusie · 19/10/2023 12:06

Even as a teenager I wouldn't go upstairs, never knew who would be up there before you went up and also worried about falling over/missing stop from upstairs. I would take the same approach now if I got the bus!

TicTacNicNak · 19/10/2023 12:08

Pretendthatwearedead · 19/10/2023 11:55

What a rude tone! Plenty of people mouth breathe because they can't breathe through their nose. You sound like you hate the world. Charming!

This is me. I have deviated nostrils which makes it extremely difficult to breathe through my nose. I hate that people use the term "mouth breathers" as though were some sort of weirdo or monster.

I also have osteoarthritis in my knees and couldn't get upstairs if I wanted to. I was not the girl at the back of the bus in this scenario though.

WithIcePlease · 19/10/2023 12:09

No way in a city. Those bus drivers just seem to speed off from stops irrespective if there's a doddery person trying to remain upright. No way would I do the stairs under those circumstances.
In the countryside, DD laughed at me not wanting to go upstairs because of this, saying it didn't happen there and it was much more sedate and lovely views!
This is only my observations and obviously may vary!

Coffeerum · 19/10/2023 12:09

Nothing to do with being lazy, many people are usually on a bus for a shorter period of time and it is must easier to stay on the bottom if you're only going a relatively short distance as that way you won't miss your stop.

Also if you're on the top dec how do you know how crammed it is on the bottom?
Or is it okay okay for you to choose to stay on the bottom?

feelingalittlehorse · 19/10/2023 12:10

I hear on the grapevine there are lots of empty seats on the top deck of the bus, OP.

Why don’t you try yourself one of those?

Echobelly · 19/10/2023 12:10

After the experience of using a buggy in buses with my first DC, I now always go up top unless the bus is really empty. I don't think it's always laziness as a big problem was people presumably trying to be helpful by not taking seats at all, so standing downstairs blocking the way for the less mobile, rather than going upstairs to leave space. I do now think that if you are mobile and unencumbered you should always go upstairs if the bus is at all busy, and you're not helping if you stand downstairs when there are seats upstairs.

dutysuite · 19/10/2023 12:11

Because I don’t feel safe on a bus anymore in London let alone on the top deck.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/10/2023 12:11

The irony of complaining about people sitting downstairs while sitting downstairs...

PenguinRainbows · 19/10/2023 12:13

Why aren’t you utilising all this empty space upstairs then?

And why are you consuming yourself with such anger over what others do?

Trinity65 · 19/10/2023 12:13

Hahahaaa

KittyWindbag · 19/10/2023 12:14

I used to hate going to the top of the bus when I was younger because all the horrible or leery boys used to sit up there and shout abuse or be generally unpleasant. I felt safer down in the bottom. I never take the bus now, so can’t say what it’s like. But really you go up there if you hate it so much.

Tempnamechng · 19/10/2023 12:15

🤣🤣

Eileen101 · 19/10/2023 12:17

I hate the top deck. It's full of people playing music through their phone with no headphones, windows open, smoking, and terrible language which I wouldn't want my kids hearing.
I'd rather stand downstairs than go upstairs.
