Surely Joe Biden just wants to sit at home?

I mean at his age. Wouldn't he rather sit in the house, comfy slippers, newspaper etc and just relax? I just watched him meeting the Israeli leaders, he is so stiff and slow. Taking aside the politics, which is everything here but its not what im discussing, surely Biden is just too old for that job? Is that ageist or just common sense,? America must have many brilliant politicians who could do a more robust job.
(And im not even mentioning trump)

I do think being an effective and clear communicator is crucial. I feel for Biden with his speech issues but he doesn't speak clearly or forcefully enough

Ageism is nothing like sexism and racism. With the latter two you are judging people on what they are whereas with ageism in this case, you're judging on where that person is at this point in their life. It's pretty obvious that to be leader of a huge country, you need to have energy and all your faculties. It's natural that people in their 80s slow down a bit, but the President of the United States can't afford to slow down.

Look at the difference between Barack Obama from the beginning of his time in office to the end. He was young and super fit throughout. Those eight years really really took their toll on him.

He's far too old for the job. I actually cringe when he's giving speeches because of how lost he gets. I don't feel any sympathy for him though, it's obviously a power trip. Surely to God he can't go for another 4 years. It's madness!

Biden (Feinstein, Sanders, Pelosi, McConnell) have had a lifetime of public service and can't just "stop".

I listen to lefty political podcasts, where the presenter has given up feeling annoyed with MM and sound actually frightened for him, increasing infirmity. Biden looks and sounds pretty coherent & robust compared to McConnell.

If you want political soap opera, follow the disaster that is efforts to elect next Speaker of the House. Would be 2nd in Line to presidency, some right nutjobs are in the running.

He doesn’t know where he is half the time. Anyone who thinks that Biden is in charge is blind or stupid.

It is exactly like racism and sexism. This thread is rife with it.

I noticed he could walk down steps without having to look down. I've still not mastered that.

David Attenborough is not president of the USA

I'd vote for him!

No opinion on Biden either way. The US people have voted him in. Democracy.

So when Boris Johnson is -65/75/85- any “gaffes” and incompetence he shows would be because of age?

The ones people accused him of in his 30s and 40s /50s were because…?

Boris was just a twat.

Miss him.

Whether he’s up to the job or not, having a job and sense of purpose each day probably helps keep him going. My nana was very fit and healthy, exercising daily, until dementia. She is now gaining weight and losing mobility as she no longer wants to do any exercise (or has the mental capacity to remember where she walks, follow instructions, etc). Neighbour is a farmer in his 80s and it keeps him going. We aren’t really sure what to do with him as we feel quite certain downsizing to a suburban house would kill him rapidly, but equally he can’t physically keep managing large land and stock and the stuff that goes with it.
