Lose weight diet only (no exercise)

I need an operation on my hip which is now at stage 4 osteoarthritis after injuries caused by a car accident. The operation will not happen (I was told) for at least 6 months.

In the meantime, I saw a consultant today who said I need to lose weight but that with my level of injury she doesn't expect I can do any exercise.

AIBU to ask your best weight loss methods? But realistic ones that will keep me full...can't live on air!

Low carbing! I’ve lost nearly a stone since end of august with very little exercise involved (I have CFS). Check out the low carb bootcamp topic on here.

Shardonneigghhh · 17/10/2023 23:29

I do extreme slimming world mon-Fri (no sugar, no fats/oils no cheese. And I what I want on the weekend. I've lost 3 stone.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 17/10/2023 23:34

Calorie deficit is the only thing that works. You don't have to live on air. I'm on 1400 calories a day and today I've had

Kvarg protien yogurt with 100g of frozen berries and 10g of soya protien crispies

Full tin of chicken noodle soup with a large chicken breast added to it for protien

Vermecelli noodles with roast chicken breast and stir fry vegetables and a low cal sauce I made myself from skinny maple syrup, soy sauce, dried chillies. Garlic and Chinese 5 spice

Snacks - fridge raiders and a skinny whip bar.

2 litres of water and a few black coffee's.

Low carb is your best bet plus it makes you lose you’re appetite.

I fast every day (I do OMAD,but it’s necessarily quick)

Hipnotised · 17/10/2023 23:48

I tried OMAD but found I was starving in the evenings and probably made bad food choices. Felt OK during the day though.

This is exactly 7 weeks ago vs today (excuse horrible pants in first pic 🤣). And honestly haven’t gone hungry once, I’m far too greedy for that. Once you get past the initial carb/sugar cravings it really is easy. And low carb food is genuinely delicious.

DublinManc · 18/10/2023 22:45

Slimming world is amazing. I do diet only and I’ve lost 4st

Iwantmyoldnameback · 18/10/2023 23:15

Low carb and 16/8 fasting. Brilliant.

XenoBitch · 18/10/2023 23:17

Intermittent fasting, and low carb. Weight loss is 80% in the kitchen anyway.

ThinWomansBrain · 18/10/2023 23:18

I don't get hungry with this - if you do at first, just eat more lentil soup

This is a great idea too, especially with the weather turning colder.

It will help me to grab something easy and good rather than sugary food.

Wegovy

Normalsizedsalad · 19/10/2023 10:50

Calories. Simple as that. Considerable loss.

Is there any exercise you can do? Even if it's just upper body? It does help with overall health too as long as you obviously don't involve your injured parts

I think the reason it's called "no doubt" is because the range of foods is so repetitive that it reduces the options to cheat - especially if you're only catering for yourself.
Porridge and my home made lentil soup are among my favourite foods, which helps!
I've done it in the past (then lapsed🙄) - However I'm currently building up to the full on version, having the porridge and soup for lunch, but my evening meal is typically protein and tons of veg.
This evening I'm having a Waitrose ready meal of cod in parsley sauce with vegetables, but added carrots, broccoli, cavolo nero and cauliflower - I weighed the veg as I added it to the steamer, and the meal is still less that 400 calories.
A typical day is around 800-1000 calories - I always lose a lot at the start of a diet, but 4kg in a couple of weeks so far.

ThinWomansBrain · 19/10/2023 20:11

& if you get the urge to snack (you probably won't, it's filling) just have a small portion of the soup.

steff13 · 19/10/2023 20:14

I've lost 91lbs counting calories. I didn't add exercise until I had lost about half that. Weight is 80% what you eat at 20% what you do.

PaminaMozart · 19/10/2023 20:26

No crap food in the house
No alcohol, juice or sodas
Intermittent fasting - brunch, snack, dinner
Low carb - fill up on vegetables and lean protein
No UPF, sugar or refined carbs
Limit snacking to 1-2 healthy snacks: fruit, (a few) nuts, boiled egg, a carrot
Think before eating - you may be mostly thirsty

Dr Becky Gillaspy has lots of short, informative videos on IF, low carbing and curbing curb sugar addiction :

ThereIsNoTomorrow · 19/10/2023 22:24

What can I eat without carbs in? 😂😂

PaminaMozart · 19/10/2023 22:33

Vegetables obviously contain carbs but I wouldn't ever worry. Even small amounts of complex carbs are absolutely fine.

Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.

Plus moderate amounts of lean protein.
And small quantities of healthy fats.

TheBabylonian · 19/10/2023 23:15

No carb, lots of fat and protein. So nothing with flour, sugar or rice.

Only eat within an 6 hours a day window (mild intermittent fasting).

Eat as many above ground vegetables as you like (no potato, turnip, parsnips or carrots).

Eggs for breakfast everyday is a good starter, the only thing eggs don’t contain that your body needs is VitaminC - which you can get from small amounts of berries. Boiled eggs, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs = all good.

Eat avacado instead of apples, nuts instead of crisps or biscuits.

Fat and protein will keep you fuller for longer, eating carbs actually makes many people hungry.

BashfulClam · 19/10/2023 23:21

only a calorie deficit works to lose weight I have lost 3stobe since the start of June just be calorie counting. Have a look at Sean Casey on Facebook and instagram, no nonsense advice.

JamieFrasersBitOnTheSide · 19/10/2023 23:24

Calorie counting, I can easily lose 2-4lbs a week on a 1600 a day calorie intake in winter when I’m not so active and want to lose a few pounds. You have to work out your TDEE though before starting. Low carb makes me feel unwell and is restrictive to me. With counting calories I can choose what I eat within reason. I wouldn’t touch Slimming World with a barge pole, it’s no better than an MLM scheme.
