People dancing at concerts and blocking the view - annoying

Yes we all want to do it, well most of us do, I do, but hopefully we are mindful that some want to remain sitting but still want a view of the band they've paid to see, and make sure that we're not being selfish about it.

I was at a concert recently and a woman two rows in front of us was doing this. She stood up and started dancing like that woman on the Tales of the Unexpected intro, waving her arms around to the very first song and whoop whooping. She didn't block our view, but I could see others behind her were pissed off.

A man behind her eventually tapped her on the shoulder and pointed behind him (to people who couldn't see) and to the aisles where people were dancing. We heard him say they've also paid fifty quid, same as you, and are entitled to a view. She didn't move, but did sit down. Then got up again five minutes later and did the same thing for the rest of the evening. I saw people filming her. The man and his partner then got up and moved to the aisles and started dancing themselves.

I don't really know how it can be stopped, but it's annoying. The friend I was with said that in future she doesn't want to have any tickets in the circle or stalls for this reason, she'd rather be on a balcony with an unimpeded view, sit still and see whoever we'd come to see without people dancing in front.

Its a concert. I don't think I've been to any concert that wasn't classical or semi classical where people weren't standing.

Most tickets will say something along the lines of "people around you may stand" as well

LateAF · 17/10/2023 08:53

What type of concert? Everyone stands up at concerts I’ve been to. Or are you talking theatre/opera?

Coffeerum · 17/10/2023 08:55

Yeah screw her for enjoying herself!
It's completely normal to stand and dance at a music concert, it isn't a the theatre.

PinkMoscatoLover · 17/10/2023 08:55

How does one even sit still at a concert? I’ve always been on the floor standing for this very reason as I can’t trust myself to stay seated for a whole concert

zurala · 17/10/2023 08:55

I'm not sitting at a concert! It's a gig, I want to dance. I only book sitting so I know I can sit for a few minutes if I need to or if there's a song I don't like.
I don't understand people who want to sit down for a gig.

Houseplanter · 17/10/2023 08:56

I really hate it too. They should have an area for those who want to dance and those of us that either want, or have, to sit can do.

I find seats up the sides better than those on the floor.

Beezknees · 17/10/2023 08:56

YABU, sorry. It's a concert.

LolaSmiles · 17/10/2023 08:58

Every concert I've been to, unless it was classical/opera/folk and acoustic set, has involved people standing up at different points.

margotrose · 17/10/2023 08:58

Surely that's the whole point of a concert?

Autumnleaves89 · 17/10/2023 08:58

YABU. If you stood up to dance too, your view wouldn’t be blocked.

Chickychoccyegg · 17/10/2023 08:58

Yabu ,it does my head in when it's a venue that tells people to sit down, or if someone behind tells you to sit down, it's a concert, people want to stand up and dance, thats normal .
What band was it? I'm sure they'd be pretty insulted if everyone sat quietly on their seats as if thry were at the theatre.

Wonkasworld · 17/10/2023 09:00

Tales of the Unexpected dancing 😂love it !

Tempnamechng · 17/10/2023 09:03

Concerts - stand; your seat is to take the weight off between songs. Theatre - bum in seat.

It would if you are 5 feet tall and the person in front of you is over a foot taller!

At a concert?? You take the risk of not seeing owt if you sit!

But that's how it is at a concert! You can't control someone's height. If you expect everyone to sit down then you probably shouldn't bother going.

111111111a · 17/10/2023 09:06

Depends entirely on the gig. Was it Beethoven or Taylor swift?

Thepeopleversuswork · 17/10/2023 09:07

This.

There's nothing anyone can do about someone's height though Confused

I've gone to several sit down theatre performances where I've had a tall person blocking my view - it's just life unfortunately.

This is whyI don’t go do this type of concert. I have a 99% chance of not being able to see anything.

Riverlee · 17/10/2023 09:09

I’d be annoyed as well. In most concerts I go to, there’s songs they encourage you to get up and dance, and then also quieter songs. If they were the only ones standing up, then they’re in the wrong. They should have moved to the aisle and respect those around, which sounds like the majority of the audience.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 17/10/2023 09:10

The best events I've been to have been at Holmfirth Picturedrome where everyone stands up (there are I think some seats on a balcony). You just get in early and get to the front, dance and get a good view.

Well too bad, and I say that as a short arse.

They would still be taller than you when sitting.

They can't control their height any more than you.

wiseoldtree · 17/10/2023 09:11

People filming the whole thing are the annoying ones!
