Heating Settings at Night

During Autumn/Winter, I have mine set to come on during the night if it drops below 14 in the house, that way, when it's set to reach 18 at 5am onwards it doesn't use to much energy to reach that temp. That's my thought process anyway!

Eg if the house dropped to 10 overnight, it would have to use quite a bit of energy to bump it up to 18 in the morning so that the house is warm when we get up.

What temp to you have yours set to?

9 at night, although it has never come on at that temperature. 17 by 7am. 18 in the evening. It usually doesn't dip below 15 overnight, even during big freeze spells.
It's a hard comparison to make with others though. Some thermostats don't read accurately. Some are placed in such a place that it is colder or warmer than elsewhere in the house.

@Vettrianofan that's insanely hot, how on earth do you sleep comfortably? In the UK outside air temperatures of 20 degrees or more at night are classed as tropical nights and are regarded as detrimental to people's ability to sleep comfortably.

It's not a well insulated house that I live in, so imagine how the house just isn't maintaining a steady warmth throughout. If I lived in a new build, I would laugh at someone else needing to have heating set to 23. I also have thyroid issues too which doesn't help. Lots of factors at play here as to why the heating is how it is. Nothing in life is straightforward.

i do the same, it’s on 14 overnight or it doesn’t heat up enough when the heating kicks in the next morning. It has to be pretty cold outside for it to come on though.
last Xmas when my parents were here my dad complained it had woken him up in the night when the heating came on…….so I turned it down overnight and 2 mornings later he was complaining about how cold it was when he got up…..🙄

Out comes the sarcasm! I don't live in a new build, wouldn't give you a thank you for one. I had already said I don't like a lot of heat. I grew up with a coal fire. Even a few years ago,we didn't have central heating,we had an archaic gas fire, the house was freezing! We chose now, the kids have left home to get a small 2 bed bungalow, which had the original single glazed windows and doors, from the 1960s. I had lived in property with rising damp, mould,a caravan for 5 years,a metal box, not a fancy park home, single brick properties, victorian. We insulated. This 60s property wasn't built with central heating,it had a couple of night storage heaters.
