Normally are the doors in your home open or closed?

You are being unreasonable = Open

You are NOT being unreasonable = Closed

Thanks!

Depends if we're out for a longer time (day out etc) then close all downstairs doors before we go out but not if doing the school run or popping to shops. If we're working from home we close those work space doors. At night all bedrooms shut for noise like pp said. In winter more doors are closed recently to conserve heat. The cats are a conundrum, want them to be able to sleep in various spots but also get into the utility room which isn't big enough to put in comfy beds.

IncompleteSenten · 10/10/2023 12:53

Open because our cat needs to be able to get around.

daffodilandtulip · 10/10/2023 12:53

It's strategic, according to where the dog and children are/need to be; or how cold the house is/how hot the fire is.

Always closed at night and downstairs always closed when we go out; got fire safety.

BettyBunMaker · 10/10/2023 12:54

It depends. Open in summer, closed in winter downstairs but bedroom doors are dependent on the person within.

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 10/10/2023 12:54

I like doors closed to stop draughts (old house). DH likes them open to the extent he has removed some of them. Some have to stay open so cats can get to their food and litter etc. Kids don't understand how to close them. It's a permanent battle ground here 🫣😄 all possible doors closed at night time of course.

pigsDOfly · 10/10/2023 12:58

All open except loo and bathroom.

I live on my own so no privacy requirement and dog has free run of the house.

I do however, close the living room door in the winter during the evenings to keep the room warm.

Oysterbabe · 10/10/2023 13:00

All open all the time.
I like air to flow through the house.

8ahwe · 10/10/2023 13:04

I close the bedroom door at night but all others are open apart from when the loo is being used. Not sure if it's better to close all doors to stop the draught but it's not actually cold at the moment.

Open except for bathroom (young dog + access to loo rolls = nope nope nope).
I just close my bedroom door at night.
I live alone with my dog.

8ahwe · 10/10/2023 13:05

i'm wondering what the point in having all these doors is when they are always open :)

NorthernLights5 · 10/10/2023 13:05

Closed for fire safety. Although appreciate many posters will think I'm OTT as we have an evacuation plan and grab bags!

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/10/2023 13:05

Open, to allow cats free access, except in winter for heat control.

LadyR77 · 10/10/2023 13:06

Another with all open doors due to the cat needing to potter about and access food/outside etc. He also has a tendency to scream like a fucking banshee if he encounters a closed door thwarting his access to whatever room takes his fancy🙄

MoiraRosesBaybay · 10/10/2023 13:08

Open for the cat.
We only have one door downstairs anyway.

CoreopsisEverywhere · 10/10/2023 13:09

A mixture

some are open to allow dogs easy access and minimise woofing, others closed to stop dogs going in or keep out draughts

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 10/10/2023 13:10

Some are open and some are closed during the day.

Our bedroom door stays open at night so our dog can roam but the doors to my boys' bedrooms are closed.

TheSmallAssassin · 10/10/2023 13:12

Open during the day, closed at night to reduce fire risk as others have said, also never leave dishwasher or tumble dryer on while we are asleep (or out of the house)

Our cats get shut in the kitchen at night (they can get outdoors from there), otherwise they wake us up at dawn for breakfast (and occasionally bring in small animals)

DRS1970 · 10/10/2023 13:13

Mostly open or ajar, unless we go away, then they get closed.

Nannyfannybanny · 10/10/2023 13:14

Normally open, but we have a 12 week old puppy! Limiting damage...it's an open plan bungalow living room/kitchen. Very conscious of fire safety (having been in them) smoke detector is outside our room, and it's a bungalow.

margotrose · 10/10/2023 13:15

I'd say half are open, half are closed,

If we're all at home, then the door to upstairs is open so the animals can free range. If we're out, they're shut downstairs and out of the bedrooms.

The bathroom door is always closed though, as otherwise the cats drink out of the loo and destroy the toilet paper 😂

UrsulaBelle · 10/10/2023 13:15

Open in the summer, closed in the winter. Really makes a difference.

MyJetNowAirlines · 10/10/2023 13:15

Upstairs closed most of the time for privacy.

Downstairs open most of time to allow the dog free rein.

HectorGloop · 10/10/2023 13:16

Mostly closed downstairs (old house, lots of draughts) in the day except for kitchen and the family room. Upstairs is just however the we left them. Open the sitting room in the evening when I can actually sit in it! Everything closed at night, which is an absolute non-negotiable for me but DH thinks I'm overly cautious.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/10/2023 13:18

It depends. During the day, I like the downstairs doors open. Our bedroom door is always open during the day, because the dogs slope off upstairs and sleep there. The rest of the upstairs doors are closed.

At night, most of the doors downstairs are closed, apart from the kitchen doors, so the dogs can get to their water bowl at night, and our bedroom door is shut, to keep the monsters out.

WonderingAboutBabies · 10/10/2023 13:18

Bedrooms/bathrooms closed, everything else open.

Except for when I'm doing a deep clean and want fresh air wafting through - all open.

At night, all closed. Always.

CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE
