A Question: Why is it that good old fashioned motherhood has gone out the window, and has been replaced by a library. Mothers who bring up their children buy the book (or at least claim too)who will quote chapter and verse on shite they have read, when common sense is all that is necessary?

Controversial one. Too much time on my hands? No I just like to come on and get ideas. Actually I do rather agree that all to often its more normal to turn to books/professionals/internet/goverment guidelines than for parents to actually just get on with it and do it how they genuinely believe is right. Sometimes I feel that I am not "allowed" to do it my way or feel frowned upon for choices I make if they are not by the book. Also when I come on here and see some of the threads I back off as they can be a bit preachy. Sometimes I think that there is pressure to "do it right" and that we lose touch with what it is to enjoy and nurture our children. It's easy to get caught up in all the so-called "rights" and "wrongs" of parentings and forget about just doing what we can and bringing up our children to the best of our abilities.

SlartyBartFast · 06/03/2008 22:08

i would like some thyme on my hands.. nice smell

Boco · 06/03/2008 22:08

My common sense told me to hide in the loft whenever my child had a tantrum. But I bought a book / did buy a book, and did it by the book and the book told me not to do that anymore so now I don't.

DualCycloneCod · 06/03/2008 22:09

name changing WANKERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

welliemum · 06/03/2008 22:11

Oooh, she's talking about me! [excitement}

I've just posted a long thing about weaning research she must be talking about me.

Oooh!

[warm glow]

WigWamBam · 06/03/2008 22:11

I think you have the wrong forum, dear. There aren't many posters on MN who quote chapter and verse on any so-called child-care guru.

Actually, I don't know why I bothered answering, to be honest; people who refuse to post crap like this under their usual names aren't worth responding to.

nowbehonest · 06/03/2008 22:11

I am sorry my english is crap, I dont read countless "let your child do as it pleases and it will turn into a little brat" books, or converse with other mn's who wont give me the time of day because I dont read their books and cant quote chapter and verse. Also have you not noticed the massive amount of snobbery involved in some conversations, ie quoting, quoting, quoting, boring, boring, boring!!!

mylovelymonster · 06/03/2008 22:11

probably trying to score pointless points, coddy. a surprising amount of crap about at the moment, unfortunately. Hope you're proud.

DualCycloneCod · 06/03/2008 22:12

is that a dig
or do you love me

fishie · 06/03/2008 22:13

SlartyBartFast · 06/03/2008 22:13

Nessamommy · 06/03/2008 22:13

I think someone needs to get laid.

SlartyBartFast · 06/03/2008 22:15

who me?

i wouldnt argue btw

scottishmummy · 06/03/2008 22:15

Nah nowbehonest you are still chunterring and inane.go read a good book

ALMummy · 06/03/2008 22:15

My Mum was a bit crap really. She is a bit better now. I did not have a great example set to me thus upon finding myself pregnant I bought a whole shelf of child care books and I am glad I did. For some the instinct and 'common sense' is not there because they were never shown it.

DeeRiguer · 06/03/2008 22:16

lol boco

i have lavender on the leg

Desiderata · 06/03/2008 22:16

Oh, leave it off, nbh. You're all bitter and twisted, like a twiglet.

Post under your own name, or eff orf.

Boco · 06/03/2008 22:16

Nessamommy can you please back that up with some quotes?

welliemum · 06/03/2008 22:18

Pity she hasn't the courage to post in her "real" name.

I am happy to bore on and on endlessly in my normal posting name.

DualCycloneCod · 06/03/2008 22:19

nowbehonestyouare a wanker

Nessamommy · 06/03/2008 22:19

Here..I'll quote it.."Someone needs to get laid".

SlartyBartFast · 06/03/2008 22:21

where did you buy that Moral High Ground wellie

Desiderata · 06/03/2008 22:21

Uh uh. You can't have it, Cod. She's not posting under her own name, so it can't be a personal attack.

Nice try ...

beaniesteve · 06/03/2008 22:22

their, not there.

I have far too much time on my hands.

nowbehonest · 06/03/2008 22:22

I was right then to the dungeon for nowbehonest.

I tried to give some advice a few weeks ago and one particular poster decided to take me on personally, not about the ops question, all I said was what I have learnt as a mother, but because it was'nt backed up by DR MUM it was deemed null and void. Isnt this mumsnet? or is it Ihavereadmorethanyounet?
