So tired after covid

C1239 · 07/10/2023 17:59

Im feeling so frustrated, I’ve had covid in the last couple of weeks, symptoms at the time weren’t awful, continued to work but tried to take it easy but the last couple of days I’ve been so tired, any energy has gone and I feel knackered, no motivation to do anything. Really worried I won’t feel normal again! Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips of how to shake it off?

Yes same here…had a few bad days then thought I was getting better. Now lying on sofa feeling unable to do anything!
Take it easy if you can, hope you feel better soon.

C1239 · 07/10/2023 18:03

Sorry to hear you are feeling the same @BenFoglesScarf , how many days since you tested positive?

10 days although think I had it for a few days prior to that. DD16 has had it too and is this same, still suffering tiredness.

Nannyfannybanny · 07/10/2023 18:06

I caught Covid for the very first time 2 weeks ago (I'm 72) I couldn't believe it. My youngest daughter and other granny said the first time is the worst. I felt washed out, exhausted, not tired although I couldn't sleep, I was wired and agitated. I also cannot stand mess, makes me feel much worse, and we have a 12 week old border collie puppy,so Nightshift. Hubby also had it,we very gradually started doing more,a little each day, with a doggy walk, first one nearly killed us. So pace yourself, but make sure there is a little movement, surprising how weak you get laying around. Now just about normal.

Nothingbuttheglory · 07/10/2023 18:07

Post-viral fatigue is pretty normal for a few weeks after lots of viruses. Take vit D.

Woahtherehoney · 07/10/2023 18:07

Same here! I tested positive last Tuesday and whilst all the cold symptoms have gone and my cough is better, I’m just absolutely wiped out and exhausted. It’s got me good this time!

HairyKitty · 07/10/2023 18:08

It’s not like getting over a cold, more like getting over pneumonia or a bad dose of actual flu.

Nannyfannybanny · 07/10/2023 18:10

The symptoms WERE awful! Started with cough/severe headache/pyrexial 39.7c/clogged up nose,dizzy/by day 3 every tooth and jaw ached, nauseous/diahorrea/stomach pains, unable to sleep/agitated, staggering around. Everything ached.

C1239 · 07/10/2023 18:32

Is it literally just a case of resting and pacing yourself? That’s easier said than done though 😟

I had it in August for the first time and was exhausted for more than a month afterwards. The worst symptoms were a high temp for a few days and no voice for a week (with accompanying cough and sore throat). I was surprised it took me so long to get over as the worst seemed to be over relatively quickly. But others have said the same - it's like getting over flu. I've had strep throat with antibiotics in the last few years and recovered faster from thatM

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 07/10/2023 19:00

I was panicking too but I did try to be nice to myself and rest as much as possible.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 07/10/2023 19:06

COVID is a nasty, nasty virus. Be prepared for it to take a few weeks for your energy levels to return to normal, and don't try to power through the fatigue. You'll recover better and quicker if you listen to your body now and rest when you need it.

C1239 · 07/10/2023 19:09

With a lot of the population catching it several times surely it can’t be doing us any good long term?

OP posts:
Frankinbeans · 07/10/2023 19:16

I had my third bout of it last week.
The tiredness and cough have taken me a good month plus to get over each time.

Brightredtulips · 07/10/2023 19:24

I'm the same, haven't tested positive but exhausted, no voice and cough.

Musiclover234 · 07/10/2023 19:30

Yeah I had a mild cold with my second bout but the week after the fatigue was crazy. However I nutritionally ate well, drank lots of water, rested a lot more when I could, didn’t do my usual exercise that I normally do bar a bit of stretchy yoga. Basically look after yourself and take time to recover (when you can)

I was lucky it did pass after a few days

piscofrisco · 07/10/2023 19:34

Im much the same. Felt bette for two weeks then suddenly over the course of a few hours yesterday afternoon the aches, sore throat, temperature/chills and exhaustion came back apropo of nothing. I went to bed and woke feeling a bit better today-but just bone tired. So fed up with it.

HairyKitty · 07/10/2023 20:24

Yea absolutely otherwise you increase your risk of long covid which you absolutely want to avoid.

Peterpiperspickledpepper · 07/10/2023 20:52

I think it’s pretty random who gets LC tbh. When I had it the first time Nov 2020 I was sofa bound for 6 weeks. The sickest I’ve ever been without needing to go into hospital. I got long Covid.
On the other hand I know of people who were mildly ill that got it so don’t beat yourselves up really. Ultimately I don’t think we’ve got much control over it. (Although obviously rest as much as you can)…

jlpth · 07/10/2023 20:55

You absolutely must rest - your mistake (IMO) was to try and keep going. Most likely you will get back to normal but rest and sleep is the only way to do this IME.

JollyJunee · 07/10/2023 21:00

I’ve had the flu 3 times in my life, and it is completely normal to feel unwell for 6weeks after.
At times you may feel ‘better’, but when the 6 weeks pass you realise you were still unwell.
Tiredness, lack of appetite, aches etc.
I imagine Covid is the same.
Long Covid is diagnosed when someone is still suffering symptoms after that time. They will rule out other diagnosis and be left with long Covid.
But hopefully you wil feel better soon, OP. Just keep resting and eating/drinking what you can.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 07/10/2023 21:01

I felt completely wiped out for a month and started to worry I wasn't getting any better. Then within a few days felt back to normal again

Doyouthinktheyknow · 07/10/2023 21:06

I had it 3 weeks ago and still feel exhausted. I fall asleep on the sofa in the afternoon if I’m not working and am permanently weary.

I had this week off work, pre planned annual leave which helped but I’m dreading going back, I’ll be on my knees by Friday.

C1239 · 08/10/2023 07:55

How’s everyone feeling today? I just want to cry, feel so frustrated!

OP posts:
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/10/2023 08:47

I’m on weak 12 of total exhaustion and weak legs. Had 4 naps yesterday.
