To want a cleaner that will pick my clothes up off the floor?

Dp and I work very long hours during the week. We’re out of the house 9-10 minimum. We eat dinner in the office. When we get home we’re exhausted and just want to sleep. So often the kitchen has our breakfast stuff. We’ve left clothes on the floor. There might be sunday’s dishes on the table. The laundry has been left out drying.

We earn an OK salary and have a tiny flat to save money, so a cleaner coming 2-3 times a week for two hours a time won’t be an issue.

But obviously I’m slightly embarrassed for someone to see my home in such a mess. Are there any cleaners who will sort all of this? Pick up the clothes, put them on to wash, load the dishwasher, and clean the bathroom etc?

Hippy it’s completely different. With a cleaner you agree in advance what you want done, and you pay for all the time spent. If they don’t want to tidy they can say so at the outset. And if tidying takes extra time, they get paid more.

A waiter or shop assistant can’t say no and doesn’t get paid more.

Just imagine if news got out if our Queen had left her belongings lying on the floor for staff to pick up . Stepping out of her clothes and leaving her undies just lying there . I think people would have thought less of her for doing this . I could not imagine for a second she would have behaved in this way she had much more class .

I disagree. I don’t think it is ‘completely different’.

I think it’s the same mindset.

Lots of people do just leave their tray of rubbish on tables at fast-food places. And it is the job of the waiter to clean that up.

It’s just that some people wouldn’t like to leave that mess behind them, while others couldn’t care less.

And @Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 makes an undeniable point.

This would honestly not alter my opinion of the Queen one way or the other.

Not read whole thread but I am sure you could ask the cleaner? I am sure many do this stuff if asked and compensated well!

Some places (fast food and some cafe / food hall) are self clear and part of that is taking your trays and your rubbish away. That's why there's spaces for trays and bins.

It's not about some people wouldn't like to leave the mess. It's that clearing your stuff is part of the principle of those venues. Clear your shit and staff will wipe the tables down. Many people understand that so behave accordingly.

Some people would rather leave their shit lying around because they don't see why they should put their rubbish in the bin.

Right. And as per the pp, there is probably a correlation between the people who do that ^^ and ……….

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 06/10/2023 18:02

@LolaSmiles I don't believe fast food places employ waiters but staff then having to take the time to clear tables means slower service at the counters . So people then get the service they deserve .

LolaSmiles · 06/10/2023 18:07

I don't disagree.
The leave shit lying around for someone to deal is an attitude issue in my opinion.

Agree with you.

It's a deliberate choice some people make to leave their stuff lying around.

It's a shame for everyone else when they can't get served quickly or there's a longer wait for a table because some people are too precious to put their rubbish in the bin.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 06/10/2023 18:10

Why are your clothes left on the floor? That's teenage behaviour. Put a linen basket in the place you take them off & put them in there instead.
Are you organised at work?

Hippyhippybake · 06/10/2023 18:15

That’s it - it’s an attitude thing. At least after reading this thread people might potentially reflect on how their behaviour is perceived by others.

I would be beyond furious if any of my children dumped their clothes on the floor to be picked up by a cleaner.

I definitely don’t leave stuff on tables in fast food places (and in “proper” restaurants I pile all the plates up and hand them to the wait staff) and I would never leave a pile of clothes in a changing room.

But I would have no qualms about saying to a potential cleaner “I’m afraid I’m a bit of a lazy sod who sometimes forgets to pick stuff up, is that something you’d be okay to deal with if I paid you accordingly?”

Teddleshon · 06/10/2023 18:25

I think everyone would agree that “sometimes” is completely different to “always” .

GreekDogRescue · 06/10/2023 18:27

I was a cleaner in the 80’s and did all this stuff.
So when did cleaning become so precious?

Mrsgreen100 · 06/10/2023 18:51

Stop throwing your clothes on the floor and put them in a laundry basket when you’re done like everyone else starter for 6 !

Buffs · 06/10/2023 18:52

My cleaner would be happy to do that.

NellieJean · 06/10/2023 18:55

My late Mum was a cleaner all her working life. A lot of the comments on here break my heart.

Parr1960 · 06/10/2023 18:56

Yabu, don't be so slovenly.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 06/10/2023 19:02

Why would your clothes be on the floor?

Teddleshon · 06/10/2023 19:05

@buffs how does your cleaner know what to do with all the discarded clothes? How do they know which are for washing or dry cleaning or hanging up?

Tutufruiti29 · 06/10/2023 19:34

I was a self employed cleaner for a while and would have had no problem doing this, generally if I was cleaning I would pick stuff up so I could Hoover etc, one lady asked if I could change her bedding when I came (she had arthritis) again no issue

i would never give it a second thought If someone’s house was messy

Teddleshon · 06/10/2023 19:42

@Tutufruiti29 where did you put all these dirty clothes when you picked them up?

Pres11 · 06/10/2023 19:43

Pick your own clothes up off your own floor!!! Is this post a joke?!

Pepsi2001 · 06/10/2023 19:50

You sound like you are just lazy people.
Get yourself organised.
