Have you had the flu jab? When is the best time this year?

I've read a couple of times now that flu season will be a bit early this year, does that generally seem to be what is happening? If you are in a job where you see patients is flu starting to circulate?

Thinking of getting our flu shots this weekend, hoping it's not too late if flu is really doing the rounds early!

I had mine a few weeks ago, the earlier the better.

unvillage · 03/10/2023 18:38

My GP surgery did a clinic on Saturday, got mine then.

hettiethehare · 03/10/2023 18:39

I had mine last week - I had my covid booster at a pharmacy and they did my Flu jab at the same time.

megletthesecond · 03/10/2023 18:42

Two weeks ago in boots. Tbh I didn't want to book it too late in case they ran out.
Covid jab was last week. Got that because one of my children gets DLA.

Yep I booked my Covid jab and had the flu jab at the same time. There were delays getting vaccines at my surgery this year (I usually get notified around the beginning of September). Had both jabs at a local pharmacy 14 days ago - it takes about 7 days for the flu vaccine to be effective I think so the earlier the better. 🌹

I've had it as early as Sep and as late Dec - just depends when called.

wineandmaltesershappyme · 03/10/2023 18:50

Had mine yesterday, husband going in 2 weeks (has a sport event he wants to complete first)

FredaFox · 03/10/2023 18:50

Getting mine on Saturday

NowItsSpring · 03/10/2023 19:20

I am not in a high risk group so pay for mine - earliest I could book os the beginning of November.

Oblomov23 · 03/10/2023 19:31

Had mine Saturday at Gp surgery.

maras2 · 03/10/2023 19:33

Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/10/2023 19:34

I will get my free one (50+)when I'm invited to by my GP.

timetorefresh · 03/10/2023 19:35

Getting mine on Thursday

Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/10/2023 19:37

Oh I have just read that they have scrapped the free one for over 50's 🫣.

Growlybear83 · 03/10/2023 19:43

I had my flu jab last week and made sure that I had it early as I can remember a couple of years in the past when stocks of the vaccine were in very short supply. I had my Covid jab the week before. I chose not to have them together because I was a bit concerned about the impact of having two vaccinations at the same time on my immune system. Also, the pharmacist said that they usually put one in each arm and as I've had lymph nodes removed from my right arm, I couldn't have an inoculation in that arm and didn't want both in the same arm.

Qilin · 03/10/2023 19:45

I had mine, and my covid booster, last week.
My GP appointment for my flu vaccine wasn't supposed to be until the end of October but when I went for my covid one at a pharmacy they offered both at the same time.
Have cancelled the GP appointment.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2023 19:48

Had mine yesterday.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 03/10/2023 20:01

Having mine this Saturday (haven't been offered a covid booster despite being vulnerable). My sister has terrible flu at the moment. She can't have the vaccine (egg allergy) and I understand a colleague had it last week (I was on leave).

Last year about half a dozen at work went down with it the week before Christmas so quite a bit later in the season.

Sidge · 03/10/2023 20:08

@CharlotteStreetW1 there are egg free vaccines, if your sister is eligible she should be able to get an egg free one.

Also the eligibility criteria for Covid boosters have been really tightened up this year. Lots of people eligible last time aren’t eligible for the autumn booster.

Muchonachomiamigo · 03/10/2023 20:09

Had mine at Boots Sunday before last. Booked it in August I think?

I have to pay as I'm not eligible through NHS, but I'd rather be £20 poorer than risk flu as a single parent!

LaurieFairyCake · 03/10/2023 20:27

Had both flu and Covid vaccines today in same arm

Feeling a bit tired/headachey Hmm

SquigglePigs · 03/10/2023 20:28

The earliest date we could book ours was the last week in October. I'd have preferred it earlier but nothing I can do.

DD will have hers at school at that's not til the end of November.

Fortunately my parents had theirs last week and their covid jabs a few weeks before that (and now they've got covid so fingers crossed the jabs help).

megletthesecond · 03/10/2023 21:32

much same here! £20 is a bargain to hopefully avoid lone parenting with flu.

WhatAPalaverer · 03/10/2023 21:34

Covid jab 8 and flu today. Always get flu done as soon as possible. Covid was the newest pfizer.

QueenAstrid · 03/10/2023 21:36

I’ve just paid for mine at Superdrug. It’s £8.79 if you have their loyalty card. I downloaded it just beforehand.
