Have you had the flu jab? When is the best time this year?

I've read a couple of times now that flu season will be a bit early this year, does that generally seem to be what is happening? If you are in a job where you see patients is flu starting to circulate?

Thinking of getting our flu shots this weekend, hoping it's not too late if flu is really doing the rounds early!

My employer pays for ours, I took the first appointment I could get to which is next Fri.

DD has her NHS one this week. We waited until after her and her friends birthdays as they have a run of 7 parties over 3 weeks and she usually has a fever after hers.

I think mid Sept onwards is when they start so definitely sooner rather than later.

Nb I think the newest pfizer was only released on Monday so no point getting it done before then.

Had mine at Boots Sunday before last. Booked it in August I think?

I have to pay as I'm not eligible through NHS, but I'd rather be £20 poorer than risk flu as a single parent!

Pretty much same here!

Last Tuesday, I had the flu and covid jab in the same arm.
I felt a bit 'off' for a couple of days which has never happened before, and my arm was really sore.
Still not as bad as having the flu.

I got my flu jab two weeks ago. Not been called for covid booster yet though.

ghostyslovesheets · 03/10/2023 22:16

Had mine Saturday - Covid left - flu right - a bit tricky sleeping for a few nights due to ouchy arms!

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 03/10/2023 22:22

DH and I were both given the flu and Covid shots together last year during the last week in September (over 65's).
When we went along to the pharmacy two weeks ago in response to an invitation to get the Covid jab we expected the same arrangement again, but were told that the 'flu jabs wouldn't be in for another week so we'd have to go back.Just back from our hols now so we'll try again tomorrow 💉
I've normally had little reaction to 'flu vaccines. We'll see how this one goes😉

ThinWomansBrain · 03/10/2023 22:24

last Friday - I was in the pharmacy where I normally get flu jabs for something else, and asked if I was eligible yet (not sure of NHS scheduling) & if I could make an appointment. I was, and they did it then and there, and the covid one at the same time.

Had both flu and Covid vaccines today in same arm

Feeling a bit tired/headachey Hmm

When I had the double jab recently I was told to stay very well hydrated so maybe stepping up your water intake (I also drank lots of diluted juices and herb teas) plus a couple of Paracetamol the next day, which helped. 🌹

dayofcheese · 03/10/2023 22:25

Had mine last week. Far fewer side effects for me this year than last year.

That was the main drawback to getting them both done at once @ghostyslovesheets I had to sleep on my back instead and apparently I snored like hell!🤣I'm laughing because it was my revenge for DH's snoring!

I was told not to take paracetamol if I could help it for my flu jab

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/10/2023 22:28

I had mine and my covid booster on 14th September. NHS staff.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/10/2023 22:31

I’ve had flu and Covid jabs.

Best to be on the safe side and have them early I think

Showmethebagels · 03/10/2023 22:32

I had mine on 5th September. NHS as over 50. Got a text to book it so did straight away. It was only the second day of the winter vaccination program (in Scotland) and I was the only person under about 75 there!😳
Not eligible for Covid this time.

QuillBill · 03/10/2023 22:34

It's £8 something In superdrug if you download the app. And you can book online.

SavageTomato · 03/10/2023 22:38

Got my annual flu jab 10 days ago. Never too late or early to do it. It's more about blanket coverage across the year and population. I'm pissed off about no covid jab for over 50s.

FrazzledFirefly · 03/10/2023 22:50

I had mine last Friday

Borborygmus · 03/10/2023 23:16

Well I booked an appointment online at my local pharmacy a couple of weeks ago. Sadly, on arrival I was greeted by a puzzled pharmacist who couldn't figure out how I'd managed to make a booking on a day when they weren't doing vaccinations. If they screw up again next week I'll not be a happy bunny!
