Non Parents in Parent and Child parking spots

MrsM494 · 02/10/2023 22:02

Its really getting on my nerves how people are parking in Parent and Child spots despite not having children. I saw 3 cars like this today and 2 the other week. I watched one woman act sheepishly as she saw me struggle to take my toddler and baby out of my car in a regular parking spot, whilst she (with no children) parked in a parent and child spot. I don't want to be confrontational but would I be in the wrong to ask people to park better?!

I see it all the time and it boils my piss honestly. Usually 20-something gym bros who cba to find a different spot to park

A little while ago I confronted a fat middle aged childless couple (by which I mean they had no child with them) loading endless bags of crisps and cakes into their car in the p&c spots after I'd struggled with my over active toddler at the back of the carpark due to no spots and the man squared up to my car and tried to fight me. Clearly these people have no morals... if your response to being called out for wrong doing is to try and fight a lone woman and child, rather than acknowledging what you've done wrong then I just feel sorry for you and whoever raised you.

You missed off what your shopping was.
Was it healthy fruit and veg?
You missed off your age and size.
Are you young and slim?
If it's relevant to mention these details about the other then it's only right you should do the same for yourself

@x2boys we get HRC but only LRM. I maybe should have taken it to tribunal but didn't have the energy. I don't know anyone in RL who gets HRM under the SMI route but many who tried and failed. So I didn't bother.

Shoplifters are your problem due to increased costs and annoying extra security.

Not when I’m trying to park on an idle Wednesday it’s not. I can only give a shit about so many things, I’m a busy woman.

People should just not be dicks. If you don’t have a kid or are heavily pregnant don’t park in P&C

I wonder if the spaces were at far side of carpark there would be such a demand? If you need more space than an average space, park in a more empty area, there's no need for them at the door of the store, it's parent and child not disabled bays which should be as near as possible.

They aren't. One of our local supermarkets has the p&c at the back with a walkway to the shop, no roads to cross. There's only ever about 2 cars in them, the rest sit empty. Lots of p&c in the shop though, space doesn't seem to be as much of an issue when you have to walk further.

I park in p&c when there is one available, of not I find somewhere else. I have a newborn and a 3 year old and drive a large car, never had any problems.

What do people do in carparks that don't have p&c spaces? I've never understood the aggro about them.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 03/10/2023 10:54

@x2boys We had a lady who felt entitled to take the last blue badge spot and said '"That's ok, I've got twins and there are no baby spaces left"
I pointed out she needed a blue badge to park there and she accused me of having a go at her. She was on the phone to someone and told them what was going on, then all of a sudden she said she would move, so I'm not sure if they told her she couldn't park there.

What tosh, it's a perfectly good word that describes a certain sort of person, usually a female sort, in the same way that there are words to describe certain types of the male variety.

What are those male words then, that are just the same?

I use the p&C sometimes when I've no children with me. I have a hip problem that can be very painful, but I'm not bad enough for a blue badge.
If its bad I'll park in the closest to the shop, if thats a p&c space I really don't care.

tamade · 03/10/2023 11:46

I wasn’t serious

AutumnCrow · 03/10/2023 11:49

Another exciting complication in the frothing around blue badges (displaying thereof) is that some places now let blue badge holders register them centrally, precisely so they DON'T have to display them and run the risk of damage to their car & theft of the badge.

My local authority area, where the CEOs (traffic wardens) all carry hand-held tech, is trialling this. And one of my local hospitals has camera recognition, so you register your blue badge once at the main admin office, and that's it. I do display mine at the hospital because I can't be arsed with screaming matches with muppets calling me a 'harridan boomer' or whatever I'm supposed to be this week when I limp back to the car on my crutches. <violin>

Yes, we know that there are people like you. On the last though few of you were boastful about antisocial behavior and selfishness.

We need to bring back shaming people.

whatnot929 · 03/10/2023 14:41

People like me? Meaning people who SOMETIMES CAN'T FUCKING WALK PROPERLY? "Selfishly" taking a space that means I can buy food, from an able bodied, able to walk person, who I should priorities just because they have a crotch goblin with them?

do you hear yourself?

Scunnered123 · 03/10/2023 14:49

They should move them to the back of the car park if it's about having bigger space round your car. Nobody else would bother to park in them if they're not near the door.

So long as there is a dedicated walkway from the p&c spaces to the door, that’s fine. It’s not just about having more space, it’s about mitigating the danger of trying to cross a busy car park with small children.

You and the person you’re responding to are as bad as each other. ‘Crotch goblins’? Really? I don’t have any issue with you using a p&c space when you’re hurt but why shit on little kids when the point of those spaces is to stop them being run over when crossing a busy car park?

There's no "shitting on little kids" ffs! Theres no busy car parks where I live. That's not even the point of P&C spaces.

Honestly, people just make up crazy narratives to fit their own notions.

P&C spaces are a courtesy, Anyone can park in them. If you have a blue badge and theres no spaces, you can park in p&c. If you're elderly and less mobile, you can park in P&C. If you can't walk properly, you can park there.

Parents calling any of the above people antisocial and selfish can fuck right off.

So calling them crotch goblins is just a nice, benign attitude from a normal person who doesn’t resent their existence is it?

Yes, p&c spaces are to help prevent children being run over. That’s why they’re almost always right outside the shop. Yes, if you’re disabled or injured to the point of not being able to walk properly you can use them when you need to. Yes, that poster was wrong to call you selfish. Yes, your comment was still shitty.

The local tesco has a sign saying £75 penalty for misuse of parent and child parking.

They have no way to enforce that.

Sirzy · 03/10/2023 15:10

It would make much more sense to rename them “accessible spaces” so those with a need can use them without making it into some sort of competition.

the onlh people who legally have a need for spaces is disabled people who are entitled to a blue badge

Absolutely, as a non driver I am well acquainted with the challenge of having to negotiate my way across a car park with small children.
