I'm travelling for work and my DH gets a bit jealous so I can't share with him not post on social media about it...

Actually ive changed my mind - the main course looks like the contents of a bed pan after someone’s had an enema.

Sorry everyone.

Happiestonthebeach · 30/09/2023 01:40

For those saying about the op’s partner. I’m the partner that stays local. My dh goes out and does a lot of entertaining. It is about trying when you’re stuck at home all the time juggling demanding full time work outside the home, school aged children , sometimes children who don’t sleep, all the clubs and societies the children do on your own, grabbing food as and when you can- and then my partner comes home well rested, having attended maybe an international sports event, with fine wine, food, champagne, having experiences I can only dream of ever having, staying places we will never be able to go to together. I don’t expect sympathy but it is a bit shit sometimes/ especially when he’s had hospitality at the Grand Prix or something and I’ve had a rough week. Even though I’ll get a break at the weekends, I’m unlikely to be able to go and eat in a Michelin starred restaurant with my down time. Im not in any way toxic but week after week these incredible experiences.

i didn’t realise how much attention my post would grab, sorry @chatenoire i didn’t mean to hijack. It was part of a tasting menu with wine flight so I definitely didn’t leave hungry. It was also absolutely delicious, sorry if the photo wasn’t inspiring, I don’t like photographing my food but took a cheeky snap for my daughter who called to see where I was.

ActuallyYes · 30/09/2023 07:20

I'm still waiting to hear what the main course was.

And what is a wine flight?

And what was so "amazing" about the petits fours.

Come on, you're speaking to a woman whose idea of haute cuisine is Pizza Express!

RampantIvy · 30/09/2023 07:29

It looks like the OP's husband isn't the only jealous one here.

I went to Tommy Banks' restaurant for a ten course tasting menu last year, and the food was exquisite.

Each course was small but after ten courses I was full.

No wine because I was driving, but I would go again for another special occasion.

Now that looks lovely. What are the last two dishes?

I love pics of high end dining. I've never been able to afford the real swanky stuff - but one day...

We used to have a one star place in our town and for a brief few weeks on a Tuesday or Wednesday they did BYOB!!!
Place was rammed. Food was fantastic.

Sadly chef was an arse apparently and lost all his staff to a better paying place up the road.

RampantIvy · 30/09/2023 07:52

They were desserts @Ramalangadingdong.
The pink one was the most delicious strawberry dessert I have ever tasted and was the highlight of the meal for me. The "tree" was a biscuit. The green one had a herby flavour but I can't remember what it was.

Every single course was absolutely delicious.

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · 30/09/2023 07:52

was in @Happiestonthebeach position for several years so I can where OP's DH is coming from.
I did go to a couple of these type of events from work (often linked to traini g/promotional events) but these went online during covid and have remained on line

Simpsons is my favourite. We did a cooking course there once and it was one of my favourite days ever.

Oh I did that too, many years ago and it was just splendid. Really memorable day.

Kayemm · 30/09/2023 07:53

Oooh. Love a Michelin star tasting menu, done quite a few and have looked at Adams.

It's strange the reaction that you can get to the extent that we downplay going.

We very rarely eat out where we live but friends who go out every weekend for food and drink very much comment on how much money we must have to eat somewhere 'posh' perhaps twice a year.

I've never left hungry, it's usually just pleasantly full.

I hope you enjoyed your meal OP.

Just imagine the days before cameras on phones and the fact you couldn't take pictures of food and stick them up on (anti) social media , what would you have done then ?

20 years ago if someone took a picture of their food with a disposable camera you’d think they’d lost the plot!

A wine flight is a glass of wine matched to each (or most) courses. So instead of buying a bottle and having the same wine throughout, you will try several different ones depending in what you chose for your courses - or what you have for a tasting menu.

Fourteen courses with a wine flight at l’Enclume was the best meal I’ve ever eaten in my life. Full of things that sounded rubbish or looked tiny and foods I didn’t normally eat. Seaweed custard with an oyster and beef broth sounds shocking on paper but oh my god, it’s divine.

We had the the 14 courses at L’Enclume for our 40th anniversary, and it was far and away the best meal we’ve ever had. We couldn’t stretch to the wine flight, so one glass each and a ruinously expensive glass of fizz to start. I was a bit embarrassed when my M & S handbag was given its own chair….

The young couple at the next table were obviously minted, looked like regulars, only looked up from their phones to listen to the spiel about each course (though they did so very politely), and left four or five half empty bottles of wine when they went. I was so tempted to ask if we could take one, but I hope the staff enjoyed it. I also sincerely hope the post about them being treated badly isn’t correct - they were lovely.

It was sick and yes I had a wine flight. The best one was the the English bubbly

If DH was treated to Michelin star reataurant meals through work I would be envious as well.

I have never worked anywhere where this level of being wined and dined was an option. I remember being treated to a meal by HP, where champagne and oysters were on the menu, but I couldn't partake as I was pregnant.

GalileoHumpkins · 30/09/2023 11:56

I once went to The Flappy Duck and ate a chocolate radio that continued to work in my stomach.

Lovelyautumncolours · 30/09/2023 12:38

Looks lovely to me and if you're not paying too a definite bonus - although for me if it's a work function the food and drink are only enjoyable as the colleagues you are being forced to mix with - can be hit and miss in my experience. I hope you had the hit experience!

Oblomov23 · 30/09/2023 12:59

Shame your husband can't be happy for you. Not sure on the presentation of that photo.I'd have to pick off the big sprigs of parsley too.
