Is it just me or do people use everythink & anythink instead of everything & anything all the time now? Books, television, news... it really bugs me.

YANBU. Gives me the rage too

Sirzy · 25/09/2023 15:52

I can’t say I have ever noticed it.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/09/2023 15:52

I've never seen it written down like that, just the way some people pronounce the words. Bit annoying but I can live with it! I'd be very surprised to see it in writing though (on anything other than facebook that is)

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2023 15:52

I haven't seen nuffink like that

ASCCM · 25/09/2023 15:52

Only stupid people though, right??

Dfg15 · 25/09/2023 15:53

Oh God yes, this is one of my.pet hates. Its definitely getting more common. Even TV presenters say it !

Nannyfannybanny · 25/09/2023 15:55

Same here, along with somethink, nothink, could of,and people missing the G off the end of words, and the T in the middle.

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2023 15:56

I've been reading a lot of novels recently & honestly it's everywhere.

Enid Blyton used dialogue like that to indicate the class of people she was writing about. Anyone speaking like that was the bad guy innit.

ntmdino · 25/09/2023 16:21

The worst one, for me, is "nucular".

Even had a few of our serving Cabinet saying it on TV once or twice. As a general rule, I feel that if you can't actually say "nuclear", you shouldn't really be anywhere near the organisation in charge of it.

Islandsadness · 25/09/2023 18:22

Could you give an example of it in a novel? That's awful that it wasn't picked up bu the editing team!

hideundermyduvet2023 · 25/09/2023 18:44

Marginally better than anythin'

Listen it to a podcast where American host ends all ing words as innnnn

What I meant was, I am currently listening....

SisterAgatha · 25/09/2023 18:46

My in laws don’t even say that. It’s EV FINK. Two syllables.

What novels are you reading?

MyPurpleHeart · 25/09/2023 18:50

Omg a thread after my own heart

Americans that say aks instead of ask. Americans that say whenever instead of when. A particular American vlogger comes to mind 'whenever I was 17 I went to prison in the state of Florida' eh?

MyPurpleHeart · 25/09/2023 18:51

Also the older I get the use of the words 'like' and 'um' make my skin crawl

100% this

I like it but that's because years ago I had a wonderful friend who used to say those, she wasn't ever aware, but it used to make me smile.

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2023 18:53

Americans that say whenever instead of when
Must be descended from NI folk

SisterAgatha · 25/09/2023 18:53

Caribbeans say arks. I know way more people of Caribbean descent than I do Americans and have never heard anyone else use it. 😕

Theoldwrinkley · 25/09/2023 18:54

And since the covid thing, everything slightly out of the normal range is 'unprecedented', be it weather, inflation, interest rates, weather (again). Drives me nuts.

luckylavender · 25/09/2023 18:56

@MsFrost - I've having quite a stressful time so I've been immersing myself in easy to read novels that I can get engrossed in without having to work on the plot. So the last 3, Nicci French, Amanda Prowse & Jane Casey. Currently reading a Jodi Piccoult.

What about when people say “hospikul” instead of hospital
