Hi, this isn't really an AIBU, or maybe it is in a way. When to the shops restock school uniforms? I'm not meaning your basic white and greys. It is driving me mad! My dc have lost items at school and we need more jumpers, that don't cost the earth. I've checked online too, and they're out of stock everywhere!

Sainsbury's online right now for plain grey school shorts. It's infuriating. And been like this for at least a month.

Amazon? Vinted?

Choppysue · 25/09/2023 18:04

Have you tried trutex?

I don't want to go second hand through the school, as would rather that stay for children who really need it. I'll wait until half term and if still no luck I may have to resort to the uniform shop. I stupidly thought it was stocked all year around! 😩

I used to find DCs uniforms in the second hand box. Two huge boxes to root through. But it was there

BrilliantTimeKeeping · 25/09/2023 18:27

Thanks, yes tried Trutex, amazon etc but but for the price of what I need, I may as well go to the uniform shop. The Best deals are Asda, Argos, M&S, Sainsburys & Tesco and nothing. Does anybody know.if any of the stores are likely to get stock back in amd when? I think we can wait if it isn't going to take months! I'm always donating outgrown uniforms to school, but would never use it myself. It is for those in need, I just hate being ripped off!

John Lewis? They seem to have some stuff left online.

BrilliantTimeKeeping · 25/09/2023 18:48

Thank you @Justanotherteacher I haven't thought of there. I've just checked and they have stock, but not the colour we need!

Vinted?

breadwidow · 25/09/2023 18:59

Def try vinted. It's a bargain as well. My dd needed cardigans, none in stock in right size/colour on Tu or George websites. Was on vinted selling some bits and thought I'd look for uniform to buy - got 2 George cardigans new but without tags for a £1! Have since bought 2 skirts, used but you can't tell also for £1

littlefireseverywhere · 25/09/2023 18:59

What about eBay?

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 25/09/2023 19:09

We usually get uniform from M&S, and I start buying it in may/June to spread it out. I've been waiting for some cardigans to come back in stock for 4 months! Not just one type but any of them in the colour and size needed. Gave up on the end and basically spent the summer visiting supermarkets and checking online every few days to get what we needed. It was a real slog this year.

LuluBlakey1 · 25/09/2023 19:13

M and S have loads online.

Hobbes8 · 25/09/2023 19:30

Have you tried H&M? I don’t think anyone has mentioned it but apologies if they have. They have a range of colours and still reasonable stock online.

Rockbird · 25/09/2023 19:43

Why are you so convinced that second hand uniform is only for those in need? We have bags full of the stuff, we can't give it away!

UpaladderwatchingTV · 25/09/2023 19:57

Could you try and advert on FB Marketplace? We often see them advertised on there in our area.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 25/09/2023 20:07

Matalan is where I eventually found jumpers.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/09/2023 23:05

Definitely see if any second hand uniform is available at school
You might even find DS's lost ones
Do any of his friends have older brothers?

Lion1618 · 25/09/2023 23:11

Have a look on Vinted. Lots of uniform for sale on there, both new and secondhand. You might have to wait a bit for delivery, depending on the seller, but it's a usually a bargain compared to buying brand new in storw and obviously available all year long.

Iwantacampervan · 26/09/2023 08:19

@BrilliantTimeKeeping I can have a check in our Tesco to see if we have the colour/size that you need - we tend to have bottle green, navy, red & royal blue. Apparently the colours stocked used to be determined by the schools local to the store but that can't happen as much now as our closest school has yellow summer dresses and we haven't stocked those this year.

slithytoveisascientist · 26/09/2023 08:33

Agree vinted is a great shout also school secondhand as you clearly do need it! It's not just a financial thing

Oh I cracked a fortnight ago and paid loads extra to get them from the off8cial supplier. I'm just continuing to moan about how ridiculous it is.

slithytoveisascientist · 26/09/2023 08:36

DappledThings · 25/09/2023 17:01

It is infuriating. I don't want to buy next year's uniform in July. Why do the shops try to force us to buy stuff for next year when it's still the previous year or the start of the holidays?

I had to pay 3 times the supermarket price for shorts from the official supplier in September because 5 supermarkets had none in store or online. Still can't get DS some bog standard plain grey school socks so he's squeezing into small ones.

Was lamenting the situation with a random mum I got chatting to in Sainsbury's last week. Both of us think it's worse than normal at the moment.

@DappledThings I agree re the irritation it's why I found very years ago. Their shorts are brilliant, we get the combat ones and they really last.

Do also think vinted is fab - I get one new set of uniform for the first day then the rest is vinted
