To ask what your KIDS actually like in a party bag?

So many people here suggest a book and a packet of seeds saying 'they go down a treat '. As if a 5yo is "thrilled" at receiving a seed bomb and a book from the works? 😂

We used to give stuff like a big bar of dairy milk. Or a bag of haribo. Or whatever hanging bags were on special offer. And would also chuck in something else. Things like whizzing balloons or gel pens or blind bags or whatever the latest craze was at the time and depending on age.

So what do your kids actually like in a party bag?

I was at a party today.

Plastic tat that broke in 2 mins. No sweets so that was disappointing.

Please..No books. Never seeds.

Kids rampage through those party bags as soon as they are given and let it be known when they are rubbish.

So stick a few sweets in. Kids love stickers. Boys get something they like. Girls something they like. Its not rocket science.

Pumpernickel27 · 23/09/2023 23:30

Little tube of bubbles, birthday cake, sweets and a balloon.
My son (7) will blow the bubbles, ask for the balloon to be blown up and draw a face on it, eat the cake and sweets but leave any other plastic tat.

InOtherWords · 23/09/2023 23:30

Kids want instant gratification; parents don't want crap. Chocolate and/or book. Don't put them in plastic bags.

bluechameleon · 23/09/2023 23:34

Sweets, slime, mini slinky, tattoos, fidget toys, one loves mini notebooks, other one loves bouncy balls. Thee is always at least one hit in any party bag.

NeedSleepNow · 23/09/2023 23:37

My children's favourite ever party bag was just a fidget spinner and a massive bag of haribo.

Generally some sweets, plastic tat and a slice of cake always goes down well with my 3 kids.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/09/2023 23:39

Haribos

Bubbles
stickers
bouncy ball
tattoos

a helium balloon
a kinder egg

a tiny troll/gonk
yoyos

a lego figure
foam sword
fire cracker snaps

More than one person has mentioned a bottle of Prime - had to Google it - why would you give excited kids (or indeed any kids) an energy drink?! 😱

My 6yo is like the Duracell bunny as it is (admittedly he might have ADHD, but still!)

It's not an energy drink.

TheBeesKnee · 23/09/2023 23:43

When did this start? I'm 30 and I don't remember party bags or cake getting sent home, we ate it at the child's birthday party.

Nothing more to contribute as my baby is 5 months old !

Invisimamma · 23/09/2023 23:44

NameChange30 · 23/09/2023 23:06

Oh sorry I've just seen that some of them don't have caffeine whereas others do Blush I hope assume you all mean the caffeine-free ones!

Yes, the bottles are just flavoured coconut water, the cans have caffeine and are not suitable for children. Kids love the prime bottles and it's not more plastic tat to clutter the house.

wibblewobblebottom · 23/09/2023 23:44

wibblewobblebottom · 23/09/2023 23:41

It's not an energy drink.

To be clear, I mean the PRIME Hydration drink. Like the fancy squash. Not the energy version. Hydration version doesn’t contain caffeine or sugar. Its coconut water, electrolytes, antioxidants, and vitamins and sweeter

No worse than shitty fruit shoots. Probably better tbh.

Yeah adults want a book, but the kids sure as fuck don't.

OP posts:
ludocris · 23/09/2023 23:50

Chocolate rather than sweets, and something fun that he can play with then and there like a party horn. He once got a curly straw with a superhero tag/badge on it which went down well. Also punch balloons.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 23/09/2023 23:50

standard but always well received:
Party hat
party blower
balloons (plus once had one on a bungee cord that went down well!)
haribo
cake
I.e. instant gratification and a way to continue the party at home!

has also liked as more “special” things:
temporary tattoos
snap on bracelet
Lego key chain

At a party just before Christmas we’ve had a £1 selection box (loved it!) and just before Easter a £1 Easter egg - both were great for DC , as it was before they’d been able to have either of these things already in the season. Was great for the birthday kid’s parents too - one thing to buy then done!

weve always done “make something at the party then put it in your bag” to bulk them out! Eg crowns / necklaces / biscuits

the most special we did was take a picture at the start of the party guests and then print it for the end so it’s ready to go in bags.

we’ve also received bags with seeds and books etc, and while I applaud the parents my DC weren’t particularly bothered!

Niinja · 23/09/2023 23:53

They just adored the random bits of plastic and sweets. Weirdly bath bombs.

They've never been interested in books or seeds. In infants they were meant to pick 2 books a day at school plus local library visits etc. They are privileged to live surrounded by books, they are very lucky, but that does mean they are not particularly wowed by being given a random book from a multipack.

A football each, and a bracelet making set, were the most memorable great gifts they received.

Im 34 and absolutely got party bags. Your child will also get them. I don’t believe this is the first time you’ve heard of them at all.

hotcandle · 23/09/2023 23:57

Bubbles!

Tenashelflife · 24/09/2023 00:00

Best ones include:
Whoopee cushion
Sweets (obviously)
Water pistol
Fire crackers

alloalloo · 24/09/2023 00:02

Mine used to like some bubbles, a gel pen, stickers, the mini bags of Haribo, a candy necklace and a balloon.
