To find it difficult to throw away bday cards

Strongly suspect I ABU, particularly since I already have more than enough clutter. I’m not one of those people who gets 50 birthday cards, but a few from people I care about. Do you throw them away? Keep in a box? How long do you keep them out for (e.g. on mantelpiece or similar)?

I keep them out for 2 weeks post birthday and then put them in a drawer which I clear out periodically. I've kept the last cards from my parents/grandparents and take comfort in their message and handwriting. 💕

I keep mine. I don't get a lot and it means a lot to me to receive them so I like to keep them and enjoy looking at them again occasionally.

I only used to keep the milestone birthday ones, but now I keep the one from my mum.
Just by pure chance, I have the last one my dad wrote. Which he must have written literally the day before he passed away unexpectedly. He died on the 23rd, and it's my birthday on the 29th.
Since then I've been keeping the ones from my mum, because you never know when it'll be the last one.

Like you I don’t like throwing them out. They stay up for about a month, but then I do throw them out unless extra special ones. Although now I’ve started keeping the pictures on the card for crafting with my DS.

I kept all the cards from when my DS was born.

I don't keep all, but I always keep the ones from my closest loved ones, often they have nice handwritten messages in them. I have a shoebox that I put them in.

I've kept special cards from special people, and they don't take up very much room really. When I was clearing out my Mums house after she died last year, I found thst she had kept every card I'd ever sent her for birthday and Mother's Day, and some xmas cards too. It really made me emotional when I found them, and they're now in a box upstairs with other precious documents.

Put up on a shelf until we realise they've been up for ages then bin them. Don't really understand why you'd keep an old birthday card. Clutter for clutter's sake.

MasterBeth · 24/09/2023 12:52

you never know when it'll be the last one.

I don't really understand the significance of this. I don't get how a piece of commercialised cardboard has much meaning. Would far rather keep photos.
