I still fancy RB

WesterChick · 19/09/2023 23:16

I've watched the documentary.

I still fancy RB.

I identify as a radical feminist.

I'm married with kids.

I think that if you are a heterosexual woman, you are either in denial on what men are or you accept what they are but find them irresistibly sexually attractive and so continue to be with them.

RB is simply what the vast majority of men would be like if they could get away with it.

Therefore - and because he's bloody good looking, funny and intelligent - and sexy - I will continue to fancy the pants off him.

I think women who are being all shocked and descusted at his behaviour need to consider what men are actually like. There's not some massive demarcation between him and other men.

OP posts:
AllProperTeaIsTheft · 20/09/2023 08:06

Does literally nobody else think that most men would do what he did if they could get away with it? Men have always been jealous of him.

No. Are there far too many men who are misogynists and rapists? Yes. Does that mean all men are like that? No. As for being jealous of him... I think quite a lot of men probably already thought he was a skanky, unfunny, unattractive idiot from the beginning, and I'd agree with them. You clearly have some issues and poor taste, OP.

Elfidela1980 · 20/09/2023 08:06

Couple of people have mentioned how trauma can make women feel attraction to, well, let’s say ‘men who other women frequently find creepy and give a wide berth.’ This was true of me when I was young and I always wondered why. I didn’t know it could be trauma-related. Would anyone expand about this?

BashfulClam · 20/09/2023 08:06

He’s vile, I can’t even watch him as he’s always turned my stomach. Alwaysf hated him. My husband is certainly not jealous and wouldn’t ‘do it if he could fry away with it’ if I say no he accepts no.

SallyWD · 20/09/2023 08:07

Hitler was really sexy too right? All that power, such a turn on. Ok, he killed millions of people but you just have to accept how men are.

DinnaeFashYersel · 20/09/2023 08:08

I've always found him sleazy and repulsive.

Now we know he's like that inside as well as outside.

MrsLeonFarrell · 20/09/2023 08:09

If you truly believe Brand is who most men would like to be I feel very sad that you have lived your life surrounded by men like that.

Brand has always been a sleazy misogynist and it is an indictment on our culture that he was allowed to find fame and fortune whilst showing people exactly who he is.

As for his intelligence, to me he is a more disgusting version of Miles in The Glass Onion. Someone says of him
"It's so dumb it's brilliant"
to which the reply was
"No it's just dumb".

Brand is not brilliant, he just uses a lot of words and waves his arms around. He is manipulative as the support he is getting from conspiracy theorists shows but he isn't brilliant.

Mustardseed86 · 20/09/2023 08:09

I genuinely have no attraction to RB and never have, although I guess maybe in person it's possible he would have some special magnetism that would make me feel differently. But he's always had a creepy, misogynistic vibe, I don't find him good looking, and his persona is so ludicrously pretentious it's a turn-off in itself. Plus I bet he stinks.

I would say that's irrelevant (different tastes and all that) but I think there has to be something worth exploring in the fact that RB's obvious red flags weren't enough to put you off him before, let alone now.

I do think men are wired differently (on average) to women, testosterone obviously gives them a tendency to be more sexually motivated, but that's fundamentally different from ignoring someone's boundaries and being capable of actual assaults. I'm not at all surprised by any of the accusations against RB because again, he comes across as being in that category of capable of doing it. He'd find it funny or at most slightly regrettable.

I've been lucky in that in multiple situations with different men I've never once experienced assault, even when it would have been very easy to do and to get away with. I don't know why that is and I'm not for one second blaming any victims, especially knowing it could easily have been me. But anecdotally, I just don't think the majority of men are actual predators. There is much too large a minority who are, but for most it's a line they won't cross and would feel pretty disturbed by.

Justcallmebebes · 20/09/2023 08:10

Well that gave me a laugh 😃

Do you all seriously think times have moved on?! Look at the world. We live in a patriarchy where men take what they want. If you have a daughter, teach her well and hope for the best for her.

One of my friends teenage daughters came out as a lesbian recently and my friend confessed to feeling relieved that she wouldn't be dealing with predatory and controlling men.

Honestly I agree with you OP.

I mean, I wouldn't say I could fancy him any longer - but I bet half the people here attacking you would end up screwing him if he turned his charm directly on them. It's how men like this get away with it.

And I highly suspect that we'll see an increase in political lesbianism again in the next decade.

I think it’s around the idea of what ‘normal’ feels like to you, what ‘love’ looks like to you, what ‘connection’ looks like to you. And when I say ‘looks’ I probably should use the word ‘feels’ as it’s a deep bodily knowing. So have a think back to your earliest relationships from birth through your formative years and feel what that felt like to you. If you find it tricky, imagine a child (your child if you have one) at the same age and imagine how they would feel in that family dynamic/situation. This will give you some answers about why you chose men like that.

Gross

JamSandle · 20/09/2023 08:11

I've always liked Russell (funny and witty) but never thought he was attractive physically.

Tandora · 20/09/2023 08:12

Maireas · 20/09/2023 07:51

How do you define "radical feminism" OP, because I'm quite intrigued.

This is literally the fallacy/ paradox in the black and white , fundamentalist logic of radical feminism well exposed here:

”all men are rapists” therefore “why hold a man responsible for committing rape”

“all sex work is sexual violence” therefore “it’s not possible to identify when a sex worker has actually been violently assaulted”

”all gender is a harmful social construct” therefore “people must be defined at all times in terms of their genitals and forced to conform to gender roles associated with their “biological sex”.”

YukoandHiro · 20/09/2023 08:12

"think there has to be something worth exploring in the fact that RB's obvious red flags weren't enough to put you off him before"

Totally agree with this point but not directing it at the OP specifically - this is a huge issue, thousands of women ignored those red flags and paid to see his stand up. Why did that happen? These are important questions.

SoupDragon · 20/09/2023 08:12

I hope you don't have sons, OP.

Ew. And no, it's called 'coercion' not charm.

…straight from the playbook of Andrew Tate.

This

sunglassesonthetable · 20/09/2023 08:13

Ewww no.

Too grubby, skinny, frantic, mad junkie looking. Not my bag at all.

Looks like he'd smell crusty and have dirty finger nails. And jesus that hair, bet it whiffs.
Can safely say he's not physically my type at all.

I'd go for emotional intelligence over intelligence any day. There are some very intelligent cunts out there and I think it's over rated.

I feel like he's a broken person corrupted by massive power, drugs and sex. Women literally became disposable to him.

No, I don't think the vast majority of men would be like that if they could get away with it.

I really don't.

I feel like your world view is so different to mine OP.

IcecreamonPizza · 20/09/2023 08:14

I think you’re being very honest OP and I’m some ways I see what you mean - I think it’s more a case of would you act on how you feel given the opportunity, I’m assuming not and I suppose you can’t help who you are attracted to. Knowing when something or someone is not going to be a positive force in your life and avoiding that/then is what matters

FloydPepper · 20/09/2023 08:14

WesterChick · 20/09/2023 07:19

Does literally nobody else think that most men would do what he did if they could get away with it?

Men have always been jealous of him.

I don't think there is this huge line between him and other men. So shoot me.

No, most men (in my experience) would not act like that if we could get away with it. We’re not jealous of him, and (again I can only speak for me and every single one of my family and friends) there is a gulf between his actions, and how we behave.

if you fancy bad boys, own it, but don’t claim we’re all like that

RantyAnty · 20/09/2023 08:15

Never found him attractive. He looks grubby and smelly.

CurlewKate · 20/09/2023 08:15

You don't know what a radical
Feminist is.

I'm lucky in that I don't have to agonise about whether I still fancy him because I cannot for the life of me understand why anybody ever did.

Men are not all like him or want to be like him. However, one of the soul destroying thing about being a feminist is knowing that the patriarchy damages everyone-including men-and it would only take a small shift in the way men are traditionally conditioned to think to make the world a better place for all of us.

I think people thought it was so blatant that it must be an act and not realised it was his real personality?
