Do you get Fomo if you have a lazy weekend

Barely done anything this weekend. It rained yesterday so we took the dog in the woods when it stopped, I baked with Dd, 5, then made lasagna and watched a film/movie night
Today, much the same, long dog walk in tbe woods, all just watching tv and then I’ll make chicken dinner. DD’s neighbour friend may come to play a bit later on the trampoline.
Its a very nothing weekend, but I sometimes struggle with not going out/having lots of plans..anyone else?
Can you just relax into it?

Fomo?

Itslosenotloose · 17/09/2023 13:10

God no!!!!

Obsessedwiththose4turtles · 17/09/2023 13:11

Sorry-Fear of missing out

I also feel guilty if Dd is watching tv all afternoon and I’m on my phone, just feel so lazy this weekend 😂

Nope! I love a nothingy weekend!

Wanderingllama · 17/09/2023 13:12

No. Sometimes doing nothing or very little is exactly what one needs

Obsessedwiththose4turtles · 17/09/2023 13:13

I think it’s with having Dd, prior to having her, Dh and I could happily lie on the sofa all day watching films

No but I do get JOMO!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/09/2023 13:13

Nope - that's what most of my weekends are like (plus housework and a bit of school work)!

Take as you are teaching her the healthy approach of slowing down sometimes

BCCoach · 17/09/2023 13:14

Yep, I avoid looking at Strava if I'm having a rest day (like today!) for this reason.

Cellotapedispenser · 17/09/2023 13:19

I saw a meme once that said religion invented the concept of laziness to make us feel guilty for not working hard because that plays well into working hard for our land and factory owners. Our cave predecessors did enough work to feed and home themselves and then chilled out.

I never use the word lazy perjoratively anymore. It's now a positive action I do with pride 😀

Obsessedwiththose4turtles · 17/09/2023 13:22

I always feel if we’re indoors, I should be arranging things for Dd, at least some painting or games etc…is it bad to let her watch tv on and off all afternoon 🙈

It’s my favourite kind of weekend. Yesterday we drove dd back to uni and had lunch with her then drove home.
Had a really lazy afternoon and evening.
Today we’ve been up and out doing a few things and now home, dh will cook a roast tonight, I’m going to have an afternoon nap and will probably watch some crap telly.
My dc are getting older now, I consider these weekends as a kind of reward for all those weekends where there was nothing lazy about it 😂
We’ve got a busy few weekends coming up so I’ve really relished this one, essential downtime.

HappiDaze · 17/09/2023 13:24

It's nice snuggling up with DC and mindlessly watching films

I love watching films with teen DS although he'd no way want to snuggle up anymore but we have a good laugh watching the films

Teen DD will happily snuggle during a film

These moments get rarer and rarer but it's such a lovely way to connect

I definitely wouldn't call it being lazy just chilling out

Purplewarrior · 17/09/2023 13:25

I don’t think I have ever had FOMO.

As PP have said, JOMO is more like it. My job is very social and requires me to bound around full of energy, charm and humour.

By the weekend I only want to talk to the cat, from a prone position on the sofa, watching reruns of Lewis.

catlovingdoctor · 17/09/2023 13:32

I used too hugely but less so now.

My job, like others, is very social and people-facing. Come the weekend it can be nice to recharge. When it's been a long work day I'll dream of what show I want to watch or book I want to read.

Having said that it is a balance; it's also nice to actively do things you enjoy and see people. I need this too but think I've got roughly the right compromise between the two.

missmollygreen · 17/09/2023 13:36

No, in fact the opposite. On busy weekends I feel I have missed out on my chilling time!

hedgehogblanket · 17/09/2023 13:37

I know exactly what you mean. I worry I’m not making memories or having much fun.

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 17/09/2023 13:42

Look at it another way.

While you are lounging around having a relaxing few hours pottering about doing not very much, and dc enjoying having the time to just play or watch tv all day, there are umpteen stressed-out people rushing about to goodness-knows-what activities, sports, picnics, expensive days out, mega shopping trips, long journeys to see family they don't much like, and all wishing they could just stop!

Thementalloadisreal · 17/09/2023 13:44

Nah lazy Sunday on the sofa is perfection

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 17/09/2023 13:44

No, that's what weekends are for. I find people who talk about "wasting a day" when it's pissing down anyway completely unrelatable.

toadasoda · 17/09/2023 13:48

I love a lazy day a bit too much. A bit of FOMO would be good for me! I am loving that the weather is getting bad now and early nights so DH will stop going on about what we SHOULD be doing outside in this warm dry weather.

Echobelly · 17/09/2023 13:49

Not really, I feel a bit cabin-fever-y if too many weekends not doing anything, but I normally appreciate the odd weekend off without many commitments.

DynamicK · 17/09/2023 13:52

I'm getting restless now because we had weekends similar to that for the last couple of weekends.
I've told everyone we're going out next weekend. We'll do a day trip somewhere.

Gatekeeper · 17/09/2023 13:55

Now I know what FOMO means I can honestly say I don't suffer from this. Me and dh love pottering so thats what we have done. Sorted through my drawers, sang to the cats. Currently roasting a duck and having a right stingo G&T. Chatted with dd who has moved into a new flat with uni mates, admired ds new socks. Totally low key but thats what makes me happy

Everything and everyone else can bugger off
