Baby in weatherspoons

I took my other child to see a kids show that lasted just over an hour. My husband dropped me off and went to weatherspoons for some breakfast it was 10am SO MORNING TIME.
He took our 1 year old baby with him. He used table service. He had full English and coffee, baby had water, toast and some of daddy's breakfast.
On the next table there was a couple drinking.
The man was smiling at the baby and making her laugh. When the woman had a go at my husband saying babies should not be in pubs. Husband pointed out weatherspoons have a kids menu and staff hadn't asked them to leave. Then husband just sat and enjoyed breakfast. Extra coffee. Then picked me up.
I was fine with baby going as during the day it's more restaurant.
If it was 10pm then no baby of course.

Of course it was fine to have your baby in there, especially at breakfast time. The attitude to kids in this country is dreadful.

Needmorelego · 16/09/2023 11:49

It's Spoons. One of the most family friendly pubs out there. The other people were odd.

Thesearmsofmine · 16/09/2023 11:50

I used to take mine to our local spoons all the time for lunch when they were small. It was either that or McDonalds in our town at the time. So yeah it’s fine

PuttingDownRoots · 16/09/2023 11:51

Weatherspoons is basically a cafe with an alcohol licence at that time.

dinosaursroar1 · 16/09/2023 11:53

Some people just enjoy being arseholes to parents.

When my DD was a few months old I had an older woman pull over in her car whilst we were waiting outside a pub for it to open up to tell me what a terrible mother I was, how people like me didn’t deserve to have children etc. I was waiting to drop off a cake for my dad’s 70th birthday that the staff had kindly offered to put out for us beforehand for the small family celebration we had booked in their private room for later in the day 🙄

Passingplace · 16/09/2023 12:06

It’s fine to have a baby there at that time. If they were drinking, I’d be tempted to say that they shouldn’t be drinking alcohol at 10am.

10HailMarys · 16/09/2023 12:08

It was 10am and your husband wasn’t even drinking! Of course it’s fine to have a baby in a pub at that time. It’s a Wetherspoon’s; they encourage families during the day.

EmmaAmeliasMum · 16/09/2023 12:10

Bet they wouldn't have complained if he'd had a dog with him 🙄 dogs are treated better than children by society these days.

TheBarbieEffect · 16/09/2023 12:11

If they’d have made that comment to me I’d be making a scathing one back about their drinking in the morning.

Wetherspoons literally have high chairs!

Your husband did nothing wrong at all. Spoons are family friendly up to 9pm.

Closetheblinds · 16/09/2023 12:17

The opinion of someone who drinks alcohol at 10am should probably be dismissed.

MariaVT65 · 16/09/2023 12:17

One of the first things I found when I looked at the website of a Spoons near me. Literally says ‘Children welcome’. There you go Op :)

What an odd comment.

For a start Spoons has a no dog policy, so yeah I'm sure they would've said something 😅

And second, why are you comparing dogs and children here?!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/09/2023 12:20

Of course it’s fine. The woman was just an idiot.

I do agree that attitudes to children in this country are dreadful though- the comparison to dogs or other pets particularly irks me - they are people not something owned by their parents.

Kwilko87 · 16/09/2023 12:21

No I think drinking at 10am is what’s unacceptable in this. Don’t feel bad for peoples opinion especially when they’re drinking for breakfast!

Preach it!!

Chickychoccyegg · 16/09/2023 12:27

Totally fine to take babies/children to weatherspoons, especially during the day, I do like a weathespoons breakfast, as do my children.
The woman is an idiot.

MariaVT65 · 16/09/2023 12:30

I would agree I would probably have more of a judgement for people drinking at 10am in most cases.

I think the only times I’ve had a drink at that time is on holiday, on Xmas morning, my wedding day and the morning I found out I was being made redundant 😁

Waveifyouknowme · 16/09/2023 12:31

Some wetherspoons are adult only but then you would have been asked to leave so no it is fine

mrssanchez · 16/09/2023 12:32

Our Wetherspoons is always full of babies in the mornings, it's pretty much the only place lots of mums/dads can go for coffee and a catch up without bunging up the whole cafe with multiple prams, high chairs etc.

squashi · 16/09/2023 12:34

She sounds like someone just to humour or ignore. Staff would have said something if no children were allowed.

Yep, one near me is huge and has a family side and an adult side. You still get kids in the adult side but no one really cares as long as they are well behaved.
