Baby in weatherspoons

Snooky84 · 16/09/2023 11:46

I took my other child to see a kids show that lasted just over an hour. My husband dropped me off and went to weatherspoons for some breakfast it was 10am SO MORNING TIME.
He took our 1 year old baby with him. He used table service. He had full English and coffee, baby had water, toast and some of daddy's breakfast.
On the next table there was a couple drinking.
The man was smiling at the baby and making her laugh. When the woman had a go at my husband saying babies should not be in pubs. Husband pointed out weatherspoons have a kids menu and staff hadn't asked them to leave. Then husband just sat and enjoyed breakfast. Extra coffee. Then picked me up.
I was fine with baby going as during the day it's more restaurant.
If it was 10pm then no baby of course.

Weatherspoons is basically a cafe with an alcohol licence at that time.

Yes! I'm not a Spoons user but I cannot for the life of me see the problem here.

Fiddlerdragon · 16/09/2023 12:37

The only time I EVER go to the Wetherspoons is to take the kids out for something to eat

BitOutOfPractice · 16/09/2023 12:38

I’m not sure why you’d be surprised that the clientele in Wetherspoons would be anything other than odd and erratic, bolshy. That’s their target market isn’t it?

BitOutOfPractice · 16/09/2023 12:39

And 10am drinkers

XenoBitch · 16/09/2023 12:41

A few judgey comments about the couple drinking at 10am. It is allowed. Maybe the woman's comment was also her own judgement, rather than about Wetherspoons policies.

liveforsummer · 16/09/2023 12:43

It's absolutely fine - spoons are actually pretty strict about kids ie must be eating, leave after meal and leave earlier than normal kids licensing time so you don't get drunk adults with kids parked there all day. There are times I've gone in and left without ordering though. I'm sure your dh would have judged if it was ok to stay before ordering.

I used to go to baby cinema with my friends then we went to Wetherspoons for wine and lunch! There were 8 babies and no one ever said anything. The woman was being silly

Absolutely fine! When DS was a non sleeping baby we often ended up in spoons at 7am having breakfast and caffeine.

Hooples · 16/09/2023 12:59

The women is a prize tool. Think
no more of it.

Gowlett · 16/09/2023 12:59

I would think drinking in a pub at 10am is more unusual than bringing a baby to Wetherspoons at breakfast time…

You obviously haven't visited many wetherspoons at breakfast time...

TraybakeQueen · 16/09/2023 13:03

It depends on the Wetherspoons IMO. There's no way would I take child to the one where I live. I wouldn't want to walk them through the fog of smoke to get in there for a start.

TheShinmeister · 16/09/2023 13:05

Who the fuck is drinking in a pub at 10am?? Having said that I’m old school and don’t agree with kids in pubs. I’d rather smoking in pubs than kids

BitOutOfPractice · 16/09/2023 13:08

Yes of course @Chaniya (I haven’t been to a Spoon for years because I loathe the owner, his politics, and his treatment of small suppliers in lockdown) but I have been in for breakfast in the past.

however, we all know that the clientele in spoons at 10am is mostly not of the poshest type.

Oh sweet summer child.

Honestly you should go in one at breakfast time, the coffee is acceptable, and it is quite an experience. Any location, the surrounding affluence appears to have no bearing on the consumption of breakfast pints.

TheShinmeister · 16/09/2023 13:15

Blimey! I must be naive. At what point do they stop drinking for the day or do they just carry on? I’d be a write-off by midday 🤣

Flakey99 · 16/09/2023 13:17

Your DH was unreasonable to go into a manky Weatherspoons pub. They’re horrible and the owner is a complete twat.

Non Weatherspoons pub chain = fine. 👍😁

SallySunrise · 16/09/2023 13:17

I used to pop into spoons for breakfast regularly on maternity leave. They're ideal if you're alone with a baby. Usually big venues with plenty of space for the buggy and you can order on the app for table service.

ActDottie · 16/09/2023 13:17

It’s Spoons it’s like a restaurant in the day. Pubs have moved on a lot since say 20-30 years ago and are family friendly venues now.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 16/09/2023 13:18

You should have asked them who exactly the children's menu and baby change facilities were aimed at if not babies and children.

HMW1906 · 16/09/2023 13:19

I wouldn’t take them in on a weekend afternoon/evening but I think at breakfast time it’s completely fine

Abouttimemum · 16/09/2023 13:23

We always take 4yo DS to Wetherspoons and always have. It really could not be any more family friendly. Aside from some city centre ones on a Friday or Saturday night.

I wouldn’t spend a second worrying about the opinion of someone drinking at 10am in the morning tbh.

Topseyt123 · 16/09/2023 13:40

She was a twat. Why did she think it had a children's menu, and probably also high chairs?

Of course it's fine. Ignore anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. They are talking bollocks.

IHeartGeneHunt · 16/09/2023 13:43

I always took mine to Wetherspoons for lunch, because they're child friendly and cheap. I don't even drink alcohol but I like a daytime Spoons break. Some of them are in very fancy areas too. (Not my local one, however.)
