Will there be more? It was huge.

They always hunt in packs.

Seychal · 12/09/2023 21:37

It's probably thinking "Hmm...now there's an elephant in the room".

NalafromtheLionKing · 12/09/2023 21:40

Yes, it was the smallest one of its hundred strong clan (all of which will be hunting down the human who made it a former spider tonight).

BellaAndDave · 12/09/2023 21:41

It’ll be wiping its willy over your duvet cover and pillows…. Sorry, I’ll leave the thread now.

FourChimneys · 12/09/2023 21:41

I've put at least half a dozen outside every evening for the past week or so. We're clearly spider central here.

I'm not especially bothered but had to move my slippers off the floor because one decided to pretend one was a cave.

LittleRedYarny · 12/09/2023 21:46

Does it matter?! Is it still in the room? If yes, nail door shut and sell the house immediately! (I know they’re good for the environment blah blah blah, but I just can’t cope with them and their shifty movements.)

SweetPetrichor · 12/09/2023 21:47

They are males passing through in search of ladies! There may be more but seeing one doesn’t mean the room is a spider hang out. They are hoping not to be seen - you are a terrifying monster to them!

Umjellu · 12/09/2023 21:52

Christ these replies have made me feel much worse!

The issue I find is that if they do not find a mate I can wake up with one trying to mate with my hand. Legs completely spread out stretched over the sides of my palm gripping on for dear life. Like a Jack Russell mating with ones lower leg, but much more tenacious.

BearFacedCheekGrylls · 12/09/2023 21:57

Wherever it is, it will come out sprinting

SisterMichaelsHabit · 12/09/2023 22:00

Spiders are good. Their webs can catch wasps. Spiders eat flies which saves the lives of rabbits (protecting them from flystrike).

That's what I'm telling DS4 and I'm sticking to it. 😂

Elle200 · 12/09/2023 22:00

I had to murder one I found crawling inside a pillow case on my bed two nights ago. Huge fucker, legs like pencils and body the size of a strawberry.

Umjellu · 12/09/2023 22:22

Ok really wishing I hadn’t started this thread

I’m sorry people are such assholes. I hope whatever scares them takes effect shortly!

Have you tried flea spray around the house? Works wonders!

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 13/09/2023 01:18

As I told my dd.....my spiders and I have an understanding

They leave me alone , I leave them
Alone .

I've got two living in my bedroom and they're very polite. I've named them . I had 3 but Casanova has been true to his name and gone dating

Mini and Madame stay where they are and catch the bugs .

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 13/09/2023 01:19

I'm thinking about getting a red knee tarantula and keeping him in the bedroom, so when I get a slider I can say nah ....that's not a spider - THATS a spider 😂

Soundsmadeup · 13/09/2023 01:39

Aww, I love spiders. I've currently got two massive bastards in my kitchen, eating the fruit flies. I hope they settle in for a while.

Honeysuckle16 · 13/09/2023 04:40

Was reading in bed and became aware that a huge spider was sitting a few inches from the book, apparently reading it too. Luckily I’m not scared of spiders and simply held it in my cupped hands to put it outside.

You're my hero.! Not sarcasm. I honestly can't believe people can do that. But my brain is a bit messy, I'm scared of a lot (apart from snakes weirdly)

You do know spiders can climb don't you? 😂

ScarlettSunset · 13/09/2023 08:09

Spiders generally will eat other spiders so they don't tend to tolerate others too close by but how far that is depends on the type of spider.
If it's a cellar spider in the room (the tiny body, spindly legs type) then they'll pretty much eat any other spider or insect, including ones much bigger than they are. If you really don't like spiders then leaving one of those be will help keep the area clear of others!

Blanketpolicy · 13/09/2023 08:13

We had a massive one last night. Biggest I've seen.

It came out the night before sprinting towards me when I was watching tv and I panicked and whacked it with my slipper. I paused for a second and the fecker lifted my slipper, got out from under it and ran away under the tv unit.

Found it the next day (I prefer to think there isnt two in the house), bold as fuck in broad daylight on my kitchen wall. Dh dispatched it to the very bottom of the garden.

Florabundance · 13/09/2023 08:16

Apparently this is the time of the year they look for a mate so you'll see more of them than usual, I live in a small house in a very rural area and I've encountered so many recently ii'm beginning to feel I'm encroaching on their space not the other way round, my dog just sits in her bed watching them scuttling past, I tend to leave them be but I moved one particularly large specimen the other day because it quite fancied sharing my dogs bed which she wasn't to keen on.

ohtowinthelottery · 13/09/2023 08:25

Yes I was reading yesterday that it's spider mating season and they'll all be coming inside and be with us until mid October. Apparently they don't like peppermint oil and the tip was to mix some with water in a sprayer and spritz it around the entry points. I haven't tried it so can't vouch for it's effectiveness.

Mountainpika · 13/09/2023 08:33

A large one in the kitchen the other day. Still there as far as I know. Doesn't bother me. It's welcome to help itself to any passing insects. Spiders of all sizes throughout our house.
