Isn't the whole point of click and collect to speed things up?

Chose click and collect for my shopping for the first time. Cost me £1.50 for the convenience. Checked in as on my way and arrived. Got to the bay. He asked me my name and came back with my shopping 35 mins later. Could've just done the shop in that time. Minor issue but wondering if that's the norm? Not sure whether to give it another go as it's really handy as a lone parent!

Not normal. It's always been there waiting for me when I arrive at the slot time.

Talipesmum · 10/09/2023 10:17

I’ve never had it take that long. Usually 5-10 mins. Give it another go and if it’s still really slow try somewhere else.

NImumconfused · 10/09/2023 10:17

My experience with click and collect is that when I went to pick it up half of it wasn't there so I had to go shopping anyway. Not impressed.

Sigmama · 10/09/2023 10:18

Never done it, could you just get it delivered

This is still easier for me as I can just run in and get the bits they substituted on way back from the school run whereas wouldn't have time to do a full shop.

I could but this is a lot cheaper.

Was it Asda? I’ve had this a few times at my local Asda, waiting 30 mins plus for my shopping to be brought out!
my local Morrisons is great though, super quick & always offer to help me pack / load into my car

LlynTegid · 10/09/2023 10:21

Not more than 5 minutes in my limited experience. I'd choose delivery and pay the bit extra in your shoes.

Yep ASDA. They've got one poor bloke doing it all and there were 8 cars waiting.

I did click and collect for ds phone upgrade. Usually get delivery but I was meeting a friend in the town the following day so told ds I'd collect it for him. (Bill in my name as have shared contract thingy).

Meet friend, spend 2 hours having coffee and mooching around. Walk past vodaphone and pop on to collect ds phone.

To be told that they'd call me when I'm at front of queue - in about 1.5 hours Shock

I was firm and said I was just collecting a click and collect. If they couldn't provide me that service I would cancel and order delivery of phone. He told me to do that I had to ring vodaphone and cancel the order. So I did. There and then I stood in the shop and rang vodaphone and said I'd like to cancel my contract with them as they couldn't provide the service I signed up for.
They told the guy in the shop to give me the phone. Ok it took 5 minutes to do the checks etc - which they don't do on delivery Confused

Then 2 days later the memories came up on Fb about something to do with vodaphone being shite 12 years ago. I clearly haven't learned and neither have they but they do keep giving me great deals to stay with them!

Their excuse was they only had 2 people in the shop that day. I said whilst I appreciate its not his fault vodaphone should make it clear that click and collect is a click and queue to collect service. That did make another customer as annoyed as me waiting for the same thing laugh Grin

itsgettingweird · 10/09/2023 10:30

If Asda yea they are shite at click and collect. I once had to go into the shop and ask them why no one was coming down after 30 minutes of ring the bell to say I was there!

But I pay £6.50 for an anytime delivery pass a month and this is a lifesaver! Can't fault their delivery service.

Feelinalrightwiththecrew · 10/09/2023 10:31

I was about to ask if this was Asda. Click and collect from my local Asda is nothing less than tortuous - you have to queue with all the other customers, only the one at the front can say they are there by pressing the buzzer, after 5/10 mins, someone comes out and takes their name (depending on the person, they may or may not take the details of the car behind as well). They then disappear for another 5/10 mins before bringing the order out, which the customer then loads into their car. The process then starts again with the next customer.

Tesco - 6 allotted parking spaces, 2 or 3 staff all taking details and bringing orders to cars, customers loading car and leaving - all flows along perfectly, never been more than 10 mins from arriving to leaving!

Clefable · 10/09/2023 10:31

Sounds like a staffing issue or something. We get C&C at Aldi and it's always out within two or three minutes of us texting them.

SuperSange · 10/09/2023 10:33

Tesco click and collect are brilliant; your shook g is held in a van in the clock and collect spot, so no wait at all, only if you e arrived at the same time as someone else

Ahhhhhbisto · 10/09/2023 10:34

I have had this more and more with Asda recently. They are overrun with uber/just eat/deliveroo orders coming in all throughout the day. I am going to have to stop using it as like you say, could do the shopping myself in that time!

autumnboys · 10/09/2023 10:34

i use the Tesco c&c service, never had a problem. I’ve waited ten minutes once or twice when there’s been a queue, but that’s it. Maybe give them a try.

SerendipityJane · 10/09/2023 10:35

The point of anything is to make [more] money for the retailer. If the customer benefits from that thing, it's a happy accident.

You may think I am a cynic, but I'm not the only one

RaininSummer · 10/09/2023 10:36

I use it a Tesco on a Saturday and it's really quick and efficient

HelloItsMeAgainHello · 10/09/2023 10:38

I could tell this was asda straight away. It's an awful service. I've had times where it's taken 30 minutes with a screaming baby before I even got someone to come out and take my name

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 10/09/2023 10:39

Have you checked the price of a midweek delivery pass with Asda? Those are quite cheap.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/09/2023 10:44

I've done click & collect for both Tesco and Sainsbury's. The only wait is if there is another customer before me.

AvocadotoastORahouse · 10/09/2023 10:46

My Tesco is a smallish one but there's never any wait. There are vans parked next to the c&c area which have your shopping already sorted in them. Give name, chap trundles the stuff over, load in car, away.

itsgettingweird · 10/09/2023 10:53

Yes Tesco click and collect are brilliant.

Type your details into a machine. Shopping brought out. Load into car. Go.

Poblano · 10/09/2023 10:59

Tesco click and collect here is awful. Only 2 bays, and they fetch your shopping from the store rather than keeping it in a van. Usually only one member of staff traipsing back and forth. So if you go at a busier time (after work, lunchtime, weekends) you have to queue for a bay then wait ages once you get a bay to have your shopping brought down in the lift. I very rarely use it as it is very stressful.

Scarlettpixie · 10/09/2023 10:59

The odd time I have used click and collect it has been almost instant.

That said I have had deliveries for years now. I pay £7.99 per month with tesco and book weekend deliveries which would be £5 or £6 each. I usually book a few in advance so I can get the slots I want.
