I've seen several people wearing a mask in shopping centres and on buses and trains.

Why does it have to "affect" me? And where have I said it does? There's nothing wrong with asking the question.

Edited

If you were clinically extremely vulnerable, would you wear a mask?
If you had cancer and were having treatment, would you wear a mask?
If one of your close family had chronic asthma and likely to be extremely poorly if they caught covid, would you wear a mask?
What's the matter op, did you want everyone to call mask wearers paranoid sheep?

Fizzology · 07/09/2023 23:06

Do people who don't believe masks decrease the spread of airborne infectious disease also blieve that condoms are a hoax? Brainwashing by the latex industry?

BarqsHasBite · 07/09/2023 23:06

I wore one on the train today for the first time in ages because someone absolutely stank of BO 🤢 so glad I still had one buried in my bag.

DinnaeFashYersel · 07/09/2023 23:06

Vulnerable health

Have something they don't want to pass on

Or just scared

simplemoments · 07/09/2023 23:07

I wear a mask for the following reasons:
can’t be arsed to do my make up
dont want to talk to anyone
i have a sore throat and cough it makes it feel better
i don’t want to cough on people
it helps with my hay fever

CustardySergeant · 07/09/2023 23:08

I've never had Covid, nor has my husband, but if I did get it, but felt well enough to go out, I'd wear a mask to protect anyone that I happen to be near, such as passing in the supermarket. That seems to be a responsible way to behave. I wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone.

neilyoungismyhero · 07/09/2023 23:10

I have a relative going through chemo. She has been told infection is her biggest concern. If she caught covid her treatment would have to stop until she was clearly over it. She avoids us fir the first week following her treatment. For some people it's still serious.

MatchaPancakes · 07/09/2023 23:13

Spent a year in Japan and people wore masks if they've got allergies during allergy season, because they've got a cold, or during winter to minimise cracked skin. Not sure why masks are seen as such a controversial thing over here.

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 07/09/2023 23:16

I will only wear one if I test positive for covid

No other time

grumpycow1 · 07/09/2023 23:16

If I had cold symptoms and had to go out, I would wear a mask so as not to spread germs to others. It’s nice to be considerate, this was the norm in many other countries even before Covid. Some people who are vulnerable may also wear them as a kind of security but it’s more effective if people with colds wear them to prevent making others ill. Why do you ask?

Mistressanne · 07/09/2023 23:16

I’ve got chronic lymphoblastic leukaemia.
I wear a mask on public transport. I use a lot of hand gel too.
I caught a virus in June and I was so poorly.
I'm very careful now.

porridgeisbae · 07/09/2023 23:17

@KatyKopykat I'm always suspicious that people are actually wearing a mask because they currently have Covid but want to go out without feeling guilty/spreading it.

Exactly this. Why won’t people just wear a mask if they’ve got any illness and prevent people like your relative getting ill? (If they don’t have a reason preventing them from a mask that is)

Nagado · 07/09/2023 23:19

Governments all over the world got their very best scientists and virologists to advise them on whether their citizens should wear masks and they all concluded that they should. Why do some of you think you know better than the world’s leading experts simply because you’ve watched Terry on You Tube talking about how it’s all a conspiracy to control population levels? It’s outrageously arrogant of you.

MyGardensAMess · 07/09/2023 23:19

I wear a mask in some situations and sanitise because I live with someone who is clinically vulnerable. For their sake, I feel I need to do all I can to protect them. If it doesn't work, at least I know I did all I could to prevent them ending up in hospital with complications.

When I did have Covid and got out of my required isolation period, I had to go to the pharmacy to get medication for the vulnerable person in my household. I put on a N95 to do that to prevent spreading any lingering germs. So yes, it could mean they are at the tail end of Covid and being considerate.

Because they were susceptible to the last 3.5 years of brainwashing.
How does a corrupt government control its people?

Through fear.

The last 3 years has proven how easily people can be totally brainwashed without a single threat. How easily a government and a team of behavioural scientists can use coercion to literally scare people into complying - it took a few days and their job was done.

Had the majority just said “no”, they wouldn’t have even tried to mandate bacteria ridden face nappies. They were sat there in parliament lapping up the compliance!

Seemingly this thread has brought out the conspiracy theorists - and those with a long history of posting conspiracy theory as well as anti vax rubbish.

There are plenty of reasons why people might choose to put a mask on.

Tinysoxxx · 07/09/2023 23:23

Nonsense. It’s very obvious masks work. They reduce the amount of virus particles in the air surrounding other people. Although loads of studies have confirmed this, it is basic common sense.

EmilyBrontesGhost · 07/09/2023 22:54

Chris Whitty told us in spring 2020 absolutely NOT to wear masks.

As did that Jennie Harris woman.

They told us masks do NOT help and could make things worse.

I wouldn’t use Jenny Harries to support your argument 😆

She was the one who claimed that large gatherings at sporting events would have no effect on spreading covid… despite WHO stating otherwise and lo and behold there was a subsequent surge in areas where these events took place: Six Nations, Liverpool Champions League vs Athletico Madrid, Stereophonics concert in Cardiff.

N95 well fitting masks absolutely do help prevent the spread of covid.

This thread reminded me to get a new mask and Cambridge Masks has a big sale on - 65% off! Just sharing for the community-minded peeps https://cambridgemask.com/

Thanks also to those wearing masks when ill, as an immuno-suppressed person I really appreciate it.

Because I want to - I am clinically vulnerable and I lost family to Covid, developed long covid myself - sorry it's so very triggering to some people not sorry at all

It was at least a year before Covid that I purchased my first masks. A member of the household was diagnosed with a serious medical condition that resulted in immune suppression, and we were told by the doctor that anyone else in the household who got sick should stay in their room and wear a mask if they had to come out. To protect the vulnerable person. This sort of thing didn't just come about with Covid.

RubyTrees · 07/09/2023 23:26

I wear a mask because my husband is immunocompromised and I have ME/CFS - my life is shit enough as it is due to my condition so I have no wish to catch Covid.

We've both worn FFP2 masks since they've been available to the public and neither of us has ever caught Covid.

Rocket1982 · 07/09/2023 23:26

I wear a mask when I actually have covid. Would you rather I just sat next to you on the bus without one?

7eleven · 07/09/2023 23:27

Don’t be disingenuous OP. There was implied judgment in your question and you know it.

Many reasons have been put forward. They all seem reasonable.

Poor you. You’ll just have to cope with it.
