I do,
I also spend quite a lot of time by myself (with animals not humans) so I find it hard to switch it off at other times.
My lovely gran chatted to herself so I feel I'm in good company.
I just need to feel I'm not the only one

Thanks everyone I can relate to all of these. I have discussions and arguments with people who aren't there, the second one more if I'm stressed!
Also get annoyed with myself or "Me" and "Actual Me" as I call them get annoyed with each other.
I don't know why but it's worse in supermarkets, I mutter all the way round.
Animals of course but also inanimate objects too.

At least you can be sure of an intelligent listener!

My kids said at an early age that being in the car with me was:
“Bla bla bla bla
Story story story story
SING!”

StopStartStop · 08/09/2023 06:45

Constantly. I'm autistic. I sort my thoughts by verbalising them. As an old person, I no longer try to hide it, and will walk about chatting happily to myself. 😂

I go like that Feb to April when I get bad sleeps. Fine the rest of the year.

I talk to myself all the time.
I have full on arguments with myself that can get very nasty.
Often tell myself I’m a twat etc.
I wouldn’t stand for someone else speaking to me like I do to myself when I’m angry.

I called myself a twat the other day in the loo at Morrisons for something I'd done earlier, only it came out really loudly.
Hate to think what everyone else thought. Must have sounded like I was playing I-Spy by myself.

😂

travelogue · 08/09/2023 13:02

Not exactly, I have imaginary conversations (out loud) in imaginary scenarios with real people who aren't actually there though - does that count? Sometimes I am being interviewed 🤣

SensibleWearForGeographyFieldTrip · 08/09/2023 16:44

@travelogue
Ha ha yes that counts. I decided years ago it was perfectly fine, it's not as if, when I've finished chatting/arguing with people who aren't there I think "Where did they suddenly disappear to? How bloody rude"

Ah, yes! I hear you and I raise the bar to speeches! I have given the most magnificent speech when I accepted my Oscar in the Best Actress category. Not a dry eye in the house. I became a media darling overnight. Sensational, I was! (Minor detail…I can’t act!).
In the House of Commons, I received a standing ovation when I delivered my speech on prison reform/overhaul of the NHS/emigration policies etc. My astute and practical solutions were lauded as ground-breaking and my invitations to bestow my knowledge upon the lost were many and varied. (Minor detail….I am not a politician!)
When I led a research team to discover a cure for cancer, my speech on an international stage was magnanimous and inspiring. I was invited to cut a ribbon to open a research wing of a hospital named after me following my speech. (Minor detail…I am not a research scientist!)
A group of aggressive teenagers on the street yelled something unpleasant in my direction and I slowly turned around and delivered an incisively witty and wise speech highlighting the error of their observations. They were both transfixed and transformed. It was high fives all round and they offered me some of their sweaty pizza in thanks. (Minor detail: I have never had an encounter with aggressive teenagers!)
And as for the speech I delivered when I won The Great British Sewing Bee, it inspired a new generation to fall upon their bobbins like things possessed. (Minor detail…I cannot sew!)
These speeches and many others of their ilk are only ever voiced in my car as I drive about alone! Sometimes, when I reach my destination, I want to open my car door dramatically and step out and take a low sweeping bow. Do you think I need to get out more?!🤣

Ollifer · 10/09/2023 17:11

Yes I do it constantly. Especially in the car if I've been in the office and haven't had a chance to talk to myself all day 😭

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 17:17

I talk to myself...

No you're absolutely fine! I've had tons of (imaginary) arguments, where the bully/bad person in general has tasted their own medicine and immediately seen the error of their ways. I have turned down numerous awards for ethical reasons and just this morning I gave a seminar on autoimmune problems and solutions.

All the time. Explaining what I'm doing, imaginary conversations with others.

Scottishgirl85 · 10/09/2023 20:30

Always, literally my best discussions. I talk through problems and find solutions, like 2 different people. I often wonder if I'm totally mad. It's constant commentary. Inside my head when around people, out loud when I'm alone. Its wonderful :-)

whatisforteamum · 10/09/2023 20:32

I talk to myself when I need expert advise.🤣
I talk all day especially to my cat.my best listener died yrs ago .
I've got a new one to chatter to now.
It helps me we stress and also remember stuff.

Lantyslee · 10/09/2023 20:36

Oh yes but mostly imaginary conversations with other people. If I've seen a friend for a catch-up and there was some news I forgot to tell them, I just tell them afterwards - the fact that I'm no longer with them is irrelevant 🙄

wavws · 10/09/2023 20:37

as in speak out loud? Never. I want to try to practice public speaking though, but I feel so cringeworthy!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/09/2023 20:39

All the time and I always have. I think it’s healthy!
